Re: Portis or Westbrook?
I prefer portis due to Westbrooks problems with injuries.
In other words ....I'd rather have a B+ back all the time than an A back in there some of the time. Not to mention...Portis is a way better blocker and he is a somewhat stronger runner |

Re: Portis or Westbrook?
Portis is nothing more than a 3rd down back but if Zorn's offense give him the space he can have a good year. He's still not worth the money we paid for him though. I heard Portis is off the juice and has lost some weight to get quicker. Good news to hear, Gibbs tried making him a power back with embarrassing results. Maybe the old man needed new glasses, who in their right minds would try to make a 200lb back a power back?? Did he even watch any tape from Denver on him??

I've always defended your right to say what you think and I have often agreed with some of things you've said but to say Portis is nothing more than a 3rd down back is f'ing asinine dude. |
Re: Portis or Westbrook?
Prove me wrong, you can't. He's an overrated Dave Meggett and nothign more. He's too small, doesn't break any big runs, and his career is going to be over in 2 years due to injury. He can't stay healthy and he's a total me guy. All that and we gave him an insane contract. We should cut him now and go with Betts.
then lets put santana moss at running back. Running Backs first priority is to run, 2nd is to catch, lets keep our priorities straight. Besides, Portis is pretty good catching the ball out of the backfield.
Westbrook is a better runner and it's not really even close.
Portis is the better pass blocker of the two, but Westbrook isn't chopped liver as a pass blocker. |

Since you're talking about small stuff, I thought I'd mention small chicken appetizers. 1 small over stuffer chicken, cooked and deboned 5 burrito sized flour tortilla wraps 1 bottle barbeque sauce of choice 1 bottle blue cheese dressing of choice 1 head of lettuce, shredded 1 tomato, thinly sliced hot sauce Pull the chicken into shreds with clean hands and place in a bowl or ziploc bag. Pour 1 bottle of barbeque sauce on top of it. Add ten drops of hotsauce into this and stir. Heat wraps for ten second in microwave. Place lettuce on wrap and two tomato slices. Spoon 1/5 of chicken mixture on top of lettuce and tomato. Cover with blue cheese dressing and fold in the two sides. Fold the unfolded sides so that the two ends meet and tuck one into the other. Cut in half and enjoy! |

Even if most of the statements you make are true (which they arent), your conclusion still makes no sense.
This is because you made your conclusion prior to considering any evidence, and you aren't going to win any debates by doing that. |

Re: Portis or Westbrook?
It's hard to compare the two. They play on two completely different kinds of teams.
Portis is an important player but he's not relied upon to be THE ENTIRE OFFENSE. If we lose Portis, we can still win. If they lose Westbrook, they're toast. This has less to do with the individual players' talents and more to do with the workload they're assigned and how Westbrook can have success with the types of plays they call for him (a lot of passes out of backfield). Portis could probably succeed anywhere because he can take a tough running workload OR a role like Westbrook's because he can run, catch and even pass the ball well. But could Westbrook be as good on a team that would use him as a 30+ carry guy? Probably not, he has an injury history even with his 15-carry workload. If Portis were in Philly, he could easily match and probably surpass Westbrook's production. If Westbrook had to play for Gibbs and carry more, he'd probably do OK, but not as well. So, I believe Portis is a better RB because he can be a true RB as well as Westbrook's "Utility" role of RB/WR. I don't believe Westbrook could cut it for an extended period of time outside of Philly. Yes, he's vitally important to their success, but only because they have the offensive gameplan solely based on his strengths and talents. Not every team can/wants to/needs to do that. Portis could succeed anywhere. |

Re: Portis or Westbrook?
westbrook is so much better this is an easy one.
|
Re: Portis or Westbrook?
Portis hands down. Lets compare Portis pre-redskins to westbrook when he ran the west coast in Denver. Im sure every one would choose Portis.
The way Gibbs ran the offense should not count against Portis, our play calling was terribly predictable. Go back and look at all the game day post. Everyone was complaining about play calling- Run, Run, Pass, Punt. Run, Run,Pass, Punt all in a tight i-formation. Portis has carried this team on and off the field. Theres no comparison to whom the better back is. After this year compare the two backs. Under our new offense Portis will have his best year as a Redskin. |
Re: Portis or Westbrook?
westbrook is so much better this is an easy one.
Your joking right? Portis is better at breaking tackles, blocking, in between tackles, outside tackles, catching, clutch, leadership, and production. |
Re: Portis or Westbrook?
Portis is the best blocking tail back I have ever seen in 35+ years of watching NFL football. If you want to disreguard that thats fine but I'm absolutely sure Redskins QB's and WR's put tremendously high value in it. His blocking for his teammates makes the statement that he is all about himself completely ridiculous. Alot of back wont even stick there nose in there and block and even those who do dont do it as well as he does.
To me Portis is the best all-around back in the NFL. He does it all. He can run between the tackles(much better then Westbrook), run outside, catch and block. No on puts the complete package together better then Portics does IMO. He may only be the best at blocking but he's pretty darn good at everything else as well. Take away the predictibility of Gibb's offense and you'll see a whole new Clinton Portis. He'll get the ball in different spots and in better areas to succeed. You wont know what is coming like has been the case these past few seasons. I respect Gibbs but his smash mouth football wasn't as successful in term two because the athletes are so much bigger/faster/quicker then they were during his first stint as Skin's coach. Portis will have a huge year this season. Westbrook is more elusive(or seems so) because he is in a situation where the Eagles offense is designed to get him the ball in space. Portis hasn't had that since he played in Denver. Get Portis the ball in space like Westbrook gets it and he'll be equally effective if not moreso on big plays. Portis alread is better at grinding it out and blocking. It's hard to tell if he is better or worse at recieving because Gibbs rarely threw him the ball and when they did it was as a safty valve not as a primary reciever. Portis is also a much stronger runner. All things taken into account Portis is a better back then Westbrook. |
Re: Portis or Westbrook?
Id rather have Portis. Portis is the better blocker, the better runner, and the better red zone threat. The only thing I think Westbrook does better is catch. I feel like Portis ran behind a worse line than Westbrook did last year, and if everyone is healthy on our O-line this year, I think Portis will have the better season. It would be cool having Westbrook be a skin though cause he went to high school in this area (I think Dematha in moco)
And thats the truth ruth |

Agree 100%. Westbrook's value coincides with his pass catching skills. |
