I'm with you, Big C, I sure hope Jacobs makes the team. But he will have to overcome his injury history to do it. And it's not just the latest one. He has been injured much more than he has been available in his Redskin tenure. Let's hope he can stay healthy now!! We sure need his talent.
I don't think Jacobs is in danger of being cut.
I think you are right with the current situation, Matty. Gibbs certainly gave him strong commendations in the minicamps. But Joe Gibbs definitely has the old school coaching mentality about guys being able to stay on the field. Another ding real soon that keeps him on the sidelines for a game could spell trouble. The best thing that could happen right now for him, is to play through something to show he has the mental toughness Gibbs likes. We know Gibbs likes his skills, but that is 3rd or 4th on his list of priorities. Anyhow, they should be keeping at least 5 WR's with all of the dings they have, so there may be no choice.
the thing with jacobs is that he had a weird injury, a ruptured spleen or something, which shouldnt be a reocurring one, like a torn acl, i think he will get on the field a lot. he runs good routes and has good speed.
I think that since Cooley has shown a lot of potentail, we are going to start cutting down the list of TEs to make room for some of these receivers. I wouldnt be surprised if we just kept cooley, kowolski(sp) and rasby, then mabye one more.
what is the extent of the baxter injury
id say to the extent that hes not going to make the team. thats my guess atleast.
gibbs will probably keep 4-5 TEs (which is a lot), and rotate 3-4 of them... cooley looks solid. We definately have depth at a lot of positions...
cliff and jimoh gotta get lost... the fringe players to get in may be scott, lemons, simon, and stempke (a kicker??), but i should qualify my statements by saying that i don't really know what i'm talking about ;) and to continue in that vein, fire mccollough. |
we're not going to keep the kicker, teams bascially have second kickers in preseason to be nice and let them try out for other teams in the league that might need a starting guy.
Russel is probably gone, Betts is wearing out his welcome to if he doesnt play. What about Gibran hamdan?? I wonder if Gibbs likes him enough to put him on the practice squad? |
Canes, very strong probability Hamden will be on P/S and 3 QB's carried throughout the season on the full roster. Tim will be the emergency QB for games and not count against the 45.
What about Scott is he going to be one of the WR that makes the team?
wait and see... he had a couple good games, but didn't do anything against the fins.
I'd say it's a pretty safe bet that the WR lineup will look like this:
1. Coles 2. Gardner 3. McCants 4. Thrash 5. Jacobs Thrash could supplant McCants as the #3, but Thrash has been pretty quiet this preseason. Gari Scott will be on the practice squad. Cliff Russell is most likely a goner. I don't think they'd even waste a practice squad spot for him. What a brilliant choice in the third round he was. SKINSnCANES: I believe Cooley and Rasby will be the Game 1 starters at H-back and TE. Followed by Koslowski at the back-up H-back spot, and Robert Royal as the back-up tight end. Though Royal could be on the bubble -- haven't seen much from him this preseason either. There may be room for one more reserve to play both positions. Perhaps Baxter if he heals up. |
