I agree with most of it except I would put Crummy ahead of Geisinger. Erasmus James ahead of Evans and Boschetti and Richardson ahead of Tryon.

Has Geisinger done anything....well I mean that I haven't heard or see him play much. Just curious.

I'm with you on Crummey over Gesinger and I kept Boschetti. Richardson got burnt badly on the screen to Smith, so I cut him......he has still had a better pre-season than Tryon, so I'll give you that. I haven't seen enough out of Erasmus James, so Demetric is staying. With Taylor's injury though, we may see them both...or Chris Wilson. I'm glad Saturdays over. It's time to move on.

Cartwright WILL NOT be a surprise cut. They just signed him to a new deal. He is the KR and a very good back. There is no way he is getting cut.

Re: Your final 53

(Someone mentioned in that repeat thread that Thomas and Kelly should be cut)

Ok people, we can't cut the WRs that we picked on the 2nd round, the picks that we got from our 1st round pick. Otherwise we would have wasted that 1st round for no reason. For those of us that were making an argument for the team to trade for a veteran (like Chad Johnson or Anquan Boldin) or go aggresively after a veteran wideout (ahem Randy Moss) I think our point has been made. Kelly and Thomas are not going to help this year (I hope I'm wrong) and they need to develop. Hence we have the same WR group, which did not get a TD into the middle of the season. So we have to eat it and keep this guys to develop them and hopefully they will be ready to go in a year or two, and hope that something else gets our defense going.

Kelly will be put on the PUP list and placed back on the team in 6 weeks

Is that a guess or do you have some info. on it?

If that happens, it frees up a space on the 53 man roster right? i.e. Kelly wouldn't count until he's brought off pup.

That would make sense & allow them to keep someone on the bubble. Kelly might end up on IR before it's all over with. Not a good sign that his knee swelled up again.

Pretty likely..the only question marks are Brooks vs Frost...who really knows?

No way Mix makes the practice squad, Mann is better.
Tryon may not make the team..may be PS bound.
There is also the possiblity that Boschetti, D Evans and yes...even Todd Wade may make the team....maybe one of these 3 may be on the team for 6 weeks if they put Kelly on PUP.
It would make sense to keep a dlineman during that time as insurance for Jason Taylors injury.

Re: Your final 53

Zorn said they need to develop a plan for Kelly, so wouldn't be surprised to see him go
on PUP or IR. As LaVar said on the postgame show...he wouldn't advise Kelly to make any large purchases.

Yeah, I saw that. I hope and I think that Lavar was reading too much into Zorn's comments, but it did worry me.

LaVar's comment is pretty dumb. If he's trying to say Kelly could be cut he must be high.

I dont know about you guys but after watching alfread fincher play last night i think he deserves a roster spot cause he was on fire last night and most of the preseason for im concerned

This 53 man roster my be the best the Redskins have. I'm very disappointed with the depth at cornerback. The era of the small cornerback is gone. Tryon is overmatched. It was obvious Jacksonville was picking on him and they demonstated that he is too small to play corner in the NFL. In my view, he looks like a wasted draft pick and I don't see any need to even keep him on the practice squad. If he cannot run back punts or kickoffs, he is worthless. Richardson is too slow. When he is isolated on a fast receiver, he gets burned everytime. He reaction time is also suspect. He got beat on screen plays more than once. The Redskins need to look at the waiver wire and pick up a better quality cornerback.

solid picks but i would trade gesinger to the ps and maybe keep fincher on the roster.
i do think cartwright could be cut...i know people are in awe of him but...it would free up space...for....ricky manning?

MTK 08-29-2008 01:56 PM

Re: Your final 53

With Mason probably on the outside looking in that means Rock is probably pretty safe.

It's got nothing to do with being in awe of him, he's simply a solid player especially on teams.

Re: Your final 53

i will give him one thing...that people dont take into consideration about rock..if sellers were to go down...who else could possibly play the fb? probably only rock..

Does anyone know how many TDs were scored on Tryon this preseason? I think we should pick up a free agent. Tryon is a bust. I rather have a average vet than him.

Re: Your final 53

We need 6 healthy WR's. Think you will see Kelly on IR or PUP. Kelly needs to realize this is now business. Now there is always someone ready to take your roster spot. Nothing is guaranteed.

I think Kelly's lack of conditioning may have helped Mann and McMullen make the team.

DIRTEE 08-29-2008 05:53 PM

Re: Your final 53

I think Justin Hamilton should fit into the equation somewhere. I can't believe they didn't give him a chance at KR. Seems everyone's list is the same except for 3 or 4 people. Looks like we had a good draft if 8 of 10 make the active roster.

Re: Your final 53

So here's the Final 53:

QB (3): Campbell, Collins, Brennan
RB (3): Portis, Betts, Cartwright
FB (1): Sellers
TE (3): Cooley, Davis, Yoder
OL (9): Samuels, Kendall, Rabach, Thomas, Jansen, Heyer, Rinehart, Fabini, Geisinger
WR (5): Moss, Randle El, Thomas, Kelly, Thrash
DE (5): Carter, Taylor, Evans, James, Wilson
DT (5): Griffin, Montgomery, Golston, Alexander, Evans
LB (6): Washington, Fletcher, McIntosh, Blades, Campbell, Fincher
CB (5): Springs, Rogers, Smoot, Torrence, Tryon
S (5): Landry, Doughty, Moore, Horton Hamilton
SP (3): Albright, Brooks, Suisham

ChickenMonkey was off by one spot: He had McMullen as the 6th WR but Hamilton made it as the 5th Safety. (A special teams pick - the New Ade).

For all the griping that some people (and a certain reporter) seem to do about our lack of depth and youth on the lines, it looks to me like we are in ok shape. Heyer is a future starter, Rinehart is a future starter and Geisinger has been solid as an undrafted rookie. Now I wouldn't want to trot them out on opening day, but if they can provide depth (which is what backups do) we are doing ok. On the DL, chances are that Monty and Golston will be starting next year, Evans is a contributor and LoAx is a young player as well. I'd like to see a stud emerge from that group but at least we've got some youngsters in the rotation.

Re: Your final 53

The only thing that concerns me is that we only have 3 wr's on the roster who have shown anything positive in the past 3 months. Maybe I'm wrong and Kelly and Thomas can someday show themselves to be serviceable backups but right now Davis or Cooley will have to line up in a 4 or 5 wr set (like Seahawks occasionally run). Guess we won't see many of those.
Usually I'm one of the most optimistic people on here but in this case I think Derrick Frost is right. Cerrato can break his arm patting himself on the back because 10 out of 10 choices made the team but Tryon shouldn't have and all three wrs that were cut have shown more right now than either of the out of shape duo.
