I've heard that Obama actually had chosen Kathleen Sebelius but then abandoned the idea.

we really shouldn't treat politics like religion or be so emotionally attached to parties that it because good vs evil no matter who's standing on either side....
Totally agree. The dispassionate mind is pretty rare. Your party affiliation should not be some badge of honor that you wear on your shirt sleeve to defend with all of your passion. People get sucked in because they're too lazy to educate themselves... so they in turn look up to their political leaders to make their minds up for them. I mean it makes sense the most basic level. A "Follow the leader" mindset makes sense to a voter that has to lead his or her own life, but doesn't have the time or the interest to invest in the affairs of our government. We're all guilty to some extent... just some (and I'm not pointing anyone out) are more obvious than others. Plus... from a politicians standpoint... that's exactly what they want you to do. They want to activate the emotional circuits of your brain that inspire you to go out and vote. They want to give you an emotional attachment that drives you to the polls, which isn't necessarily a bad thing all the time. If we lived in a world that was fully rational, we would be completely passive and inactive. No-one would react to any kind of crisis or alarm. It would just be a totally non-responsive or inclusive. It's a citizens duty to involve emotion into politics... but it's equally his or her duty to not get carried away with all the rhetorical bullshit that's out there. |

For those that are actually interested in reading about the parties' platforms, instead of mindless drivel like every Republic hates immigrant and gays, and is all about God and greed, then here is the 2008 Democratic Party Platform
http://www.demconvention.com/assets/downloads/2008-Democratic-Platform-by-Cmte-08-13-08.pdf And here are some notes on what is expected to be on the 2008 GOP Platform Washington Times - GOP platform retains abortion-ban plank Here is their 2004 Platform http://www.gop.com/images/2004platform.pdf As a Republican, a moderate Republican who is not anti-immigration nor anti-gay (I know. How is that even possible if I'm a registered Republican) I hope that the 2008 platform is substantive and addresses the issues that really matter: economy, foreign policy, education, health care. While I don't agree with everything the Dems present I thought they did a strong job in stating their case. |

You want this year's platform? You're going to have to wait but in the meantime enjoy these thoughtful and thought provoking questions put forth by RNC. Here are some choice questions:
Education: Should the No Child Left Behind law be reformed, and how? Is there a problem with too much ideological dogmatism in higher education? How should the federal government respond to colleges and universities that insist upon discriminating against the United States military? Do you support homeschooling and school choice? Energy: What role should oil, natural gas, and coal play in our energy future? What about clean fuels such as nuclear, solar, and wind power? Given high gas prices, should the gas tax be repealed or should it be increased in order to discourage people from driving cars? Do you believe that higher gas prices are good for the nation as the New York Times recently said? Health Care: Would more government control improve the quality of care, your relationship with your doctor, or the prospects for new breakthrough cures? Should our nation be looking more towards Canada and England as models for health care reform, or can we find an American solution that relies on innovation, free market competition, and a focus on individual patients? Economy: Do you agree with the other party's position that taxes should be increased and that one of the key purposes of tax policy is to redistribute the wealth of the American people to politically favored groups? How should our tax system be reformed? You may have opinions on how best to create new jobs and keep existing ones from going overseas. What role does wasteful Washington spending play, and how can waste be cured? Do you support increased international trade? judiciary: How serious is the problem of judicial activism, and what can Republicans do to address it? Should judicial nominees be required to support the Second Amendment? How should the Senate treat judicial nominees who are determined to insert their personal views into the Constitution? Do you support judicial nominees like John Roberts and Sam Alito? Should a President insist on knowing exactly how a nominee will rule before he makes a nomination? Do you agree with the Supreme Court's decision giving legal rights to unlawful enemy combatants in Guantanamo Bay? What about the recent decision holding that a child rapist cannot be executed under the 8th Amendment? Past decisions on abortion?
|

No one wants fuckups to be able to declare bankruptcy just because...their cost is passed down to me, well, not me per se because I'm a baller, but your average consumer. As for his son getting paid, I won't make excuse for him, clearly Biden should have recursed himself from any role in crafting the bill. |
Re: Obama Selects Senator Joe Biden as Running Mate
as for where i stand - both candidates suck, cause neither one is showing real leadership (cause that's not what gets you elected - pandering and playing gotcha games does apparently).
the biggest issue is reforming social security and medicare before they bankrupt the country... that whole 35 trillion in unfunded obligations doesn't sit well with me. galveston and japan's health care system offer the best examples i've heard of as far as viable cost efficient alternatives... and both have decades of use to prove their effectiveness. sane nuclear policy - the ability to reuse material (instead of using 1%, maybe use all 99% :P ) along with new pebble bed reactors (clean, safe, cannot meltdown). funding the recent breakthrough in battery research to get it to market NOW, since it's MUCH more eco friendly and efficient than our VERY old school lead-acid variants... those two things alone could eventually kill all need for oil and coal, though solar/wind/geothermal/wave power is also fairly cheap. education i'm not really sure on... the college system seems to be working, since soo many foreigners come here to study, and i've encountered no issues as far as military discrimination (quite the opposite in fact, since the service pays the school directly, i've gotten steep discounts and free books, as well as flexible timetables and 60 credits for my job training alone). I went to high school in fairfax county and didn't really see it as terrible in any way... though i wouldn't mind pilot programs for crash course vocational training (room + board provided + school provided "students" progress) to lower unemployment. the training can shift according to local/national needs and the tab can be picked up by the company when they hire you (for a multi year contract). - where i'm from, there's just not enough skilled labor (contracting - ie deck building, etc etc) i could go on, but i've actually looked into it a bit and it sucks that the answers to put the economy back on the up and up are sitting right there, proven, and everyone's too afraid of mentioning them (and scaring people) to make it happen. so how's that for vague "anti-everything"? btw, no issues with gays, greed, guns, or god here. |

I mean, you have Obama playing the race card on himself, trying to propose tax hikes on big oil, as well as the upper and middle classes. You have McCain who doesn't seem to be very interested in defending himself against the "Bush's third term" crap, suggesting a gas tax holiday as an economic breakthrough, and really making no clear attempt at all to balance the budget. Lincoln followed Buchanan - Arguably the greatest President ever. Coolidge followed Harding - While not a "great" President, he presided over a period of prosperity, and is generally considered a good President. F.D.R. followed Hoover - Certainly a great President and maybe the only other one in the same class as Lincoln and Washington. saden1 doesn't care for the democratic party because he believes them to be a bunch of pussies. saden1 is no longer an Obama fan, in fact, he cut him off and stopped sending him money the day he voted for the FISA bill. saden1 hates lies and half truths. saden1 is an ethicist. saden1 doesn't like the Republican party one bit. |
