Re: 4th and 2 the Skins throw to seal the game
did jc call that on his own,or did zorn call it?

Re: 4th and 2 the Skins throw to seal the game
It was a gutsy play which showed how more pen the offense can be. Gibbs would never have done that. I love that we fianally took a chance to pass on 4th down.

I agree with you about Gibbs,he def would have punted.Gutsy call by Zorn, great job by team to execute it.I was driving and listening to updates on the radio and I heard the skins intercepted the ball with about 3 minutes left, and I thought to myself, great N.O. probably has all its timeouts,we"ll run 3 straight plays and then punt, and NO will have time to march down the field and score, seems like that has happenned over and over again to us,so glad it turned out different.I was all over Zorns ass last week, since I didnt see the game I'm going by what is posted, and it sounds like he had just as big of a turnaround as JC,way to go Zorn |
Re: 4th and 2 the Skins throw to seal the game
calls mean little here. execution means everything. great job by Campbell. pretty much all day long

Re: 4th and 2 the Skins throw to seal the game
I like that Zorn noted that his QB coach suggested the play call in the time out. That's very cool to me. First, he was willing to give credit where credit is due; second, he actually listened to his staff at a crucial moment.
I totally agree about the execution. What's especially nice about this, beyond icing the game, is it gives them confidence down the road in tight situations. |
Re: 4th and 2 the Skins throw to seal the game
Symbollically it is such a departure from the Gibbs' philosophy that it has to be inspiring.

No question. Is there any doubt that Gibbs would have pooch punted in that situation? He wouldn't run, let alone throw in that situation probably 99 times out of 100. I love Gibbs of course, but his grind it out conservatism was maddening at times. It's fun to have a coach with some kahonas. |
Re: 4th and 2 the Skins throw to seal the game
I don't know if anyone has said this yet (didn't feel like reading every post), but it was a low risk play. If we punted there wasn't much room there...and it was just out of Suisham's range, so that makes the decision pretty easy. Had he missed it, and (for instance) the Saints marched down the field and scored, we'd be ready to hang Zorn. But it was not a high risk move, and the defense set was perfect to run that slant. All in all, a great gutsy move.
Yeah, I was just about to mention this. Zorn definitely made the RIGHT call, but it was not a difficult decision in the slightest.

Re: 4th and 2 the Skins throw to seal the game
Again today Zorn with an aggressive call to seal the game. This time a play action that led to a 26 yard completion. Even had the camera guy faked out.

They had me faked out too. At first I thought it was another two-yard run by Portis. While the camera doesn't always catch it, Zorn looks like a fiery guy on the sidelines. When the offense was in a funk in the first half, Zorn saw it, and I think did a good job of calling some plays that would provide a spark to lead them out of it. I really think it's like a bad case of chiggers for Zorn to see his guys on offense sputter. |
Re: 4th and 2 the Skins throw to seal the game
Note the end of the cards game at the 2 minute warning, we needed a first down or we'd give the ball back with 30 seconds or so.
Zorn risks an incompletion by throwing a naked bootleg to Cooley to seal the deal and it works. If it were incomplete the clock would stop at 2 minutes on a 3rd and long. Another incompletion would have given the Cards a full 2 minutes with the ball. It is pretty evident that Zorn will go for the kill shot...twice in the cards game (including the long FG attempt) and the 4th downer in the Saints game. We will lose a couple games by these aggressive calls, but hopefully we will win more this way....we have already won 2. I bet the defense loves this....they dont always have to "save the day" |
