Sorry there's no way I believe a word that Davis says on this. As someone said he's batshit crazy and he's the ultimate control freak. I'm guessing Kiffin didn't bow to his every word and it pissed him off, and now the cheap bastard is trying to get out of paying his contract. Absolutely pathetic.

So you think everything Davis said is a lie? I know he's nuts but I tend to think that some of what he said is true. I believe the part about him not wanting Russell and trying to fire Ryan. I also believe Kiffin is lying about not talking to Davis for three weeks. The reporters Kiffin on it and he just blew them off.

I didn't watch the Buffalo game but it was reported that Kiffin had Janikowski try and 75 yard FG at the end of the game. Can anyone out there explain this? To me it looked like Kiffin was trying to get fired and still get paid.

1. Why should Kiffing be punished for saying he didn't think the Raiders should draft Russell? Coaches offer their opinion all the time on who the front office should draft. The right thing to do is take into consideration the head coaches' opinion. "Just coach the damn players on the field" is not the right answer

2. Kiffin was told he would have say over his staff after year one. He had the right to fire Ryan if he so wanted.

3. The 76-yard field goal attempt, which I thought was a gamble, was with one second left at the end of the first half.

All that said, Kiffin should have never been hired in the first place. He wasn't ready.

Yes, I do think he's telling lies. There may be some small truths in there, but I think he's blowing them way out of proportion to fit his story. I think he's embarrassed that he totally botched the hire of Kiffin and he's trying to save face by placing the blame on him, it's classic Al Davis. Given his long track record of pure crazy I see no reason to believe him at all.

I agree with everyting you say. As a HC he has the right to do all those things.

al davis's mystifing world of bullshit and delusion is just mystifing is'nt it? i just wonder if he got that way naturally,or he got that way dropping acid with lsd guru timothy leary in the 1960s? i don't think he's ready for an nfl coaching job,but i would be thrilled to see him coach at uva.he's 3000 miles away from california, and the pressures of being the new uva coach are nowhere near those of coaching an nfl team.
He was fired "for cause" which is Al's attempt at firing him without paying him. I would LOVE to see the "cause".

Hmmmmmmm, wonder if there will be some litigation on this one. Anyone know the terms of Kiffin's deal?
I bet there could be a lawsuit coming. Didn't he pull this with Shanahan too?

Cause? Like...making the team better than he inherited it?

Davis is a whackjob.

I do agree with that, although the team DID improve. They couldn't get much worse though!

Should've rehired Art Shell again if they could not find anyone to take the job. :D

It does look like Kiffin was right about Russell. He's horrible.

Anyone hear the interview with Warren Sapp? He said Davis would actually send in his orders for plays on defense, despite what scheme had been practiced all week!

Re: Raiders finally fire Kiffin

It wasn't just Lane Kiffin. Some of our own Warpathers were a bit perplexed with the top of the draft in 2007 as well:
I mean is [JaMarcus Russell] really that much better? Quinn has more experience, NFL style offense in ND, incredible stats, and smarts. Is the whole "big game" thing holding him back?

Any experts here want to explain this to me?

I'm not an expert, but i can see Russell being an NFL bust. i really think Quinn will be a pretty good pro. thank god we aren't the team making that choice

I think Edwards and Stanton might even be as good as Russell on the pro level.

Ya know, Hooskins--you'd think the year Peyton Manning of all people won the super bowl, the big game arguement would get pissed down the drain as the worthless piece of garbage it is.

[Scouts] are unwilling to learn from their mistakes

I like the Raiders. Always have to a degree. And if they don't take Quinn, I'd consider it a draft error.

But I've given up on their ability to make intelligent decisions as a franchise.

I think, based on his college production, that Russell will have a very similar career path to Rex Grossman.

If we were drafting a QB, I would only hope we would take Quinn over Russell. IMO there is a good chance Russell will be the next Leaf.
http://www.thewarpath.net/nfl-draft-central/17944-is-russell-really-better-than-quinn.html

In the same thread, skinsfan69 asserted that Derek Anderson could really play, and regardless of what we think of his NFL future, that's the closest to a prediction of his 2007 season as we have ever seen.

Basically, I think Al Davis is correct in a lot of what he does, however, this twilight portion of his career will be defined by how JaMarcus Russell turns out.

I'm going to bold this paragraph because its a critical point: What JaMarcus Russell had in Lane Kiffin was a coach who understood that his Quarterback had serious limitations, and built an offense around his running game in which Russell could enjoy early-career success.

Without Kiffin, Russell loses his safety net, and without those wide open receivers in man coverage, I think the Raiders' passing game is really in trouble. Not just for this year, but as long as Russell is the Quarterback.

Prediction: These past games will end up as the best 4 game stretch of Russell's career.

I heard that Jim Fassel would take the job next year, if it's offered to him. He probably wants to play the Redskins! Nothing to lose, and a chance to get back at Dan Snyder.
