Re: Skins vs. Browns

If everything goes according to form, I see the Redskins winning by at least two TD's. This is based on the fact that since the smelly Browns beat down the Gi-aint's this makes them good now and since the Skins seem to play to the level of their comp they will come out playing like they did against the Cowgirls and the E-gals. But the smelly Browns will resort back to their smelly ways therefore fooling the Skins but by then we should be blowing them out.

Re: Skins vs. Browns

Personally I think our O will continue to run the ball like we have. The Browns D didn't really shut down the Giants running game - the TO's killed the Gmen. We need to test out their secondary though. They have good corners, but I think their safeties can be exploited.

However, IMHO it's our D that win or lose this one for us. We are capable of containing their running game and Dallas, the Eagles and the Cards all have better passing games (and personally, I think they are all better than the Gmen). If we play pas D like we did to go on our 4 game streak, then we should hold them to a low score.

My concerns are with ST's. We need to contain them on KO's and punts.

With all that and no mistakes like last week, I reckon 24-10 to Skins.

The Browns are solid, and we'll be in a huge fight to win this one. I hope it's a runaway for the 'Skins.

The Browns had a two weeks to rest up against the Giants and a two week gameplan. Short week to rest and plan this time. We'll see.

Skins are coming off a game they played sub par on offense (Turnover city),teams and the kicking game! And still gave the game away!

They have a bad taste in there mouth about the way they played and the outcome, a LOSS.

It will be the SKINS this Sunday we had been used to seeing the 4 weeks prior to the rams game.

We will WIN this game in a convincing manner!

SKINS=31

Well, big surprise, Shawn Springs is still hurt. Wouldn't be surprised if he sits out yet again. I think this is his last year in D.C. unless the team wants to permanently move him to safety.

I was just watching the Caps halftime report. He re injured the calf today at the end of practice. We are thin at the corner position this week for sure. And yes this is becoming each year at the very least, no surprise at all the status of SS health or lack there of.

SS is a great corner when healthy. Bottom line he can't stay healthy. IMO this will be his final season with the team and I'll go one step further and say football.

And with his salary and LL and Horton, what Safety position are you speaking of (he certainly isn't making backup money for either position)? If you can't stay healthy it doesn't really matter if your a Corner/ SS OR FS. You are useless to the team if your on the sidelines.

According to SportsNite on CSN, Shawn Springs status for Sunday's game is "very much in doubt." SH*T! We need him on Braylon Edwards. Given the state of our secondary, I really hope that Kellen "Grapefruits" Winslow will be out one more game. Either that or we better get some damn pass rush...

I'm starting to get more worried about this game as Sunday approaches. I don't care nearly as much about losing Smoot as I do losing Springs. The Browns have a lot of play makers on that team and their offensive line is going to give Anderson all day to throw. We really need to sustain some long drives that end in touchdowns and keep their offense off the field.

If Clinton has a hip flexor he might not be in top from for the Browns and our secondary is going to be decimated this weekend. I think either way it is going to be a nailbiter. Oline has to come through, as well as our WR corp if our running game is hampered by Clinton's hip. Rock better be the guy on Sunday til Shaun gets up to speed. God help us if Anderson burns us with Edwards and Stallworth.

Amen to that. When healthy Shawn rocks, but that is not the norm for him in a Skins uniform. We need to draft some CB's and/or acquire some young corners via FA. I can see us getting torched this weekend possibly if we give Anderson all day to trow and we are paper thin at DB.

Based on the secondary's injuries, I believe this Sunday more than any other so far, it will be oh so crucial to get QB pressure from our front four. We gotta have it this week, especially at home.

We should be able to run on these guys. The Browns rank 25 in the league on run defense giving up 137 yards per game. This should set up the pass nicely. I think we're going to need to put up some points to get this one. Our D is banged up and w/ Horton and Springs a game time decision I'm VERY worried if we have to put Kareem Moore and the new guy off the street Green out there. That scares me.

Run to the outside with the zone stuff and get his fat ass moving early and often and he'll be sucking wind in no time. Then we can start slamming it up the gut.

Good call. Their DE's aren't particularly fierce either. If we can establish Portis to the outside, we should be able to move it up the middle, with Kendall and Big Randy able to give Rabach a little help sealing Rogers.

I'm interested to see how their LBs do. I have a vested interest in them- Andra Davis is a Gator and D'Qwell Jackson is a Terp.

Re: Skins vs. Browns

I think this is a must win game. Not a must win game to make the playoffs, but a must win game for this team to be one of the NFL's top level, elite teams. A good strong win this week, set's this team up for a good run and reinforces it's strong play. Last week, we played strong we just fumbled the game away. A loss, and this train could jump the tracks. Championship teams don't lose 2 in a row at home generally, especially to teams that aren't high quality.

It's a must win, if we're looking to be one of the elite.

Re: Skins vs. Browns

Here is the problem...

If we win by anything less then 10 points, everyone will say "yeah, they should have won. That's not very impressive. Why didn't they win by more?"

If we lose, then the sky is falling and the Redskins' early wins were a fluke or over rated. We beat an over-hyped Dallas team, and a bunch of mediocre clubs.

The only way we can really fee good is if we win by 14+ points. Hell, even then we will question the hell out of it.

Don't tell me that even with all the hype and excitement before the Rams game, it wasn't in the back of your head that we never really shut anyone down all season. We neve had the game won before the 4th quarter. Great teams don't make their mark by pulling out 4th qtr comebacks.

Lets kick their ass and shut everyone up!

If the Giants had won, then I would agree with you, but, the fact that they stomped the Giants really makes a win by us, any win, a solid confirmation of the Skins drive, and then the Rams game looks like what it was, solid offense, with turnovers.

OK, now I feel better about this game. Any big name on D was out and Portis was looking bad with the hip flexor. IF they are practicing today, they should be fine come Sunday. Still sort of worried about our secondary though. Sure they practiced, but are they healthy enough to contain Stallworth and Edwards?

Re: Skins vs. Browns

im very concerned. i know cleveland has seen our injury list, and with a very beat up secondary, (all 3 of our starting CBs, and starting safety) you have to believe theyre going to test us all day in the passing game. plus, if springs is out, who is going to match up with braylon edwards? i know carlos rogers did a very good job stopping T.O. in dallas, but remember, spring held him to only 2 catches, carlos let him get 5 more. if carlos had covered him all day, isnt that speculation to believe TO could have had 10 or more? dont get me wrong, i love carlos rogers. hes very quality guy, who is extremely underrated, but at the same time, braylons edwards is very physical, and has about 4 inches and some weight on rogers. Hate to say it, but i feel like this game will be a very hard fought win. I know these are common sense, but ill post them anyway.

5 Keys to the game

Redskins can not, absolutely not give up a turn over. we all saw what happens when your offense gives the ball right back to the opposing team.

Controlling the clock with the run game.
redskins need to run the ball effectively, and nickel and dime their way downfield to get into scoring range. If they can keep the Browns defense on the field the majority of the game, wear them down so they are exhausted in the 4th quarter, we keep their offense off the field, leaving less chances to score.

Continue Jason Campbells INT-free streak.
The Browns have a very underrated secondary, 11th in the leauge. they picked off the reigning superbowl MVP last monday 3 times, one for a score. we all know Eli is a goof, and a little overrated, but we cant just assume the browns were getting the picks on "pure luck"

The lack of pass rush
The redskins have got to get pressure on Anderson. the redskins only have 8 sacks in 6 games and are ranked 26th in sacks. this coming from a redskins team that was a sub-par 16th in the league last year. with andre carter and jason taylor both posting double digit sacks last year, you would at least think the redskins defense would be putting the opposing QBs on their backs more than a measly once or twice a game. with the beat up secondary, well have to rely on our front four and an occasional blitz or two to come up with sacks to create loss of downs and loss of yardage situations, to get their offense off the field.

Special teams.
the redskins are actually 2nd in the league in kickoffs, keeping their opponents at bay, but our punting unit is ranked 31st. i know youre going to say "BUT WE DONT HAVE BROOKS ANYMORE!". ok, ill go with you on that one, but thats only part of it. dont forget were picking up a punter who was booted in his first game this season, but you know what, im with you on this one. Ill take anyone for a punter.. yes, even cooley. our special teams has got to hold them deep in their own territory on kickoffs AND punts. hold them in their own territory, keep them out of scoring range, and force them to punt to us in good field position.

sorry for the long post.

hucapn 10-18-2008 11:38 AM

Re: Skins vs. Browns

Once again I am scared about this game. I lacked confidence going into the Rams games and all my friends said I was crazy. Our secondary is nicked up and the Browns can pass the ball all over the field.Winslow will be playing and all older Skins fans know that good TE's always give us problems for some odd reason. But like any game there are things that we must prepare for to be ready for the game.

1) Braylon Edwards. This guy is the future of NFL recievers. 6'3", physical, with good speed and body control. We will have to shadow him with a safety to make sure he doesn't get out of control on second and third down.
2) Jamal Lewis. Imagine a lighter Mike Sellers with more speed. ENOUGH SAID!!
3) Pressure on Derek Anderson. As if this needs repeating, THE REDSKINS MUST PRESSURE THE QUARTERBACK WITH THEIR FRONT FOUR TO CAUSE TURNOVERS!!! Earth to Blache- BLITZ
4) Portis,Portis,Portis. He's acting like a grown man on Sundays. GIVE HIM THE PILL WHENEVER HE WANTS IT
5) Keep Campbells jersey clean. Football players know what I mean
6) The most important thing. REALLY TAKE IT PERSONALLY THAT A INFERIOR TEAM BEAT YOU LAST WEEK AND REMEMBER THAT IN THIS LEAGUE THE BEST TEAM NEVER WINS. THE TEAM THAT EXECUTES THE BEST DOES
