Re: Will we force Eli to beat us?
well he will be missing his biggest receiving threat. maybe jacobs will be out also, the skins must slow down there ground attack
PLAXICO WON’T PLAY AGAINST REDSKINS Posted by Tim MacMahon on November 28, 2008, 7:48 p.m. Giants receiver Plaxico Burress will sit out Sunday’s game against the Redskins because of a sore right hamstring. You can criticize Burress for a lot of things, but his willingness to play through pain is not one of them. He played every game during the Giants’ Super Bowl season despite an ankle injury that kept him off the practice field. Burress injured his hamstring Nov. 16 in the win over the Ravens and aggravated it on the opening series of last week’s win over the Cardinals. Domenik Hixon will start in Burress’ place. Attention fantasy geeks: Hixon had four catches for 102 yards and a touchdown against the Seahawks, when Burress was suspended for being a bonehead. |
Re: Will we force Eli to beat us?
The news on Plaxico is awesome. Also heard that both Jacobs and Bradshaw are still ailing and Tuck had some kind of injury during practice. Looks like this battle will come down to emotion over injury issues because things are a little more even there - hopefully our guys play out of their minds come Sunday w/o losing focus.

Bradshaw hasn't practiced all week, so he very well might not be able to go. Jacobs practiced today and will most likely play, although he was probable last week and was a late scratch. Tuck was back at practice today as well, and from what I read, he'll play. On a down note for us, it's not looking very good for either Andre Carter or Fletcher to play. That sucks big time. |
Re: Will we force Eli to beat us?
I hope Blache sticks 8-9 in the box and makes Manning beat us. Hixon is a nice substitute for Plax but let's be honest, Plax killed us the past few years.

Re: Will we force Eli to beat us?
So this time we have our top cb and they don't have their top wr. role reversal, lets hope the score shows a reversal as well!

From what I've heard, Bam-Bam's injury is worse than Carter's but I'd bet he finds a way to play. He knows how important this game is plus he has a streak going. If it's just a matter of playing with pain, he'll be there. There's no way Blades could fill Fletcher's shoes completely, he doesn't have the knowledge or experience, but that is his natural position and he is a 'tackling machine". I would think they would at least start Fletch if possible and if he can't go full speed, bring Blades in. Right now, today, Fletcher said he feels better but not 100%. |

Yeah from this point on scoring less then 20 will not take us to the promise land |

It basically forces us to keep Evans @ end all day which will help us stop the rushing attack and throws JT to the other side where he's in all likelihood still more comfortable and probably better than AC. Wouldn't be surprised if Taylor earns his paycheck for the first time this season. Also won't be surprised if we're all talking about Lorenzo's big performance next week. I know Golston is supposed to be the guy w/ the motor but Lorenzo looks like pure adrenaline out there. |

Re: Will we force Eli to beat us?
Will Eli BE forced to beat us?
Will we withstand their run down your throat/playaction pass scheme?? I think if Eli decides the game than we probably have matched up well up to that point. It seems Week 1 they exploited J.taylor to gain early momentum and had us on our heels till we clamped down and held them defensively afterwards. We have the personnel to beat them. I don't think they do anything special other than both Lines on O/D play more physical than opposing teams. Obviously, Jacobs is shaping to be the steam roller that Jerome Bettis was and with good health he will be even more dangerous by career end, but enough of GMen love. I rather ask : Will the Skins OLINE pass block? Will the Skins DLINE collapse the pocket ? Zorn, in my opinion is the dominant factor why we have faltered in 4 games this year. But I don't understand why our offense has stalled this year. Our run game is on point (as always) but I have expected more passes down field. Kicking field goals is a demoralizing play when ultimately scoring is hard to come by. They have to change this dismal,(yes dismal) air attack. Granted, I love the WR/TE screen but where are our WR's? They seem to be taken out of the game. I know Jansen can't pass block but the rush on Campbell should never be getting to him. Our defense is not able to generate a pass rush with the front 4 and get a sack, though we can stop the run and stop the pass but this game is shaping up with a new dimension if we play w/o Fletcher,Carter, and I think MWashington (Is that accurate) that Eli won't need to be forced to beat us, the game is nearly handed to them b/c they will simply run the ball all day. I like the young rookie in the Giants secondary but other than that I think that is their weakness on defense. It be great to see us spread the field and have them try to match us. That I think will help Campbell and give our Oline 1 on 1 blocking duties. We have to score some TD's ,settling for FG's this point in the season while in danger of missing a wild card chance simply will not do. This team seems to have decided late in the seasons to spark rallies and with an emotional year and ring of honor game nothing would make this game as special as a definitive win and a new found pride in the way we execute our offense. As the game looms and more national talk on major sport channels my heart sinks even more thinking of Sean. It would add terrible insult to play poorly so I just hope they make the Taylor family proud and all the Skins fans too. Peace to all Warpathers. |
Re: Will we force Eli to beat us?
I hope they will be forced to pass. It would be nice if we could actually put some pressure on Eli though. Our front four has put a lot of pressure on our d-backs all year. Blache believes the d-backs need to cover long enough to give the line time to get pressure. It would be nice for the line to return the favor once in awhile.

I think we all can say the DB's have played amazing even in the absences of Springs Im currently in the dark about our overall health and game status if hes ready to play . The D-line Im sad to say haven't played to my expectations mostly b/c I hoped JTaylor would be a sack machine but they can change that Sunday. |

Ditto. Again, I'm wondering if Taylor getting back to his speed rush side will give us a lift there. Also Lorenzo seems to get a sack in every game he plays and don't you figure he'll get into the rotation w/ Golston and Griff ailing? |

If they do, it'll be a whole different ballgame. If they do it against the Giants it's going to make me wonder what they've been waiting for. As for JT I think it's time to show he can still do it. He's in the best health he's been in since the summer by his own admission. Before he got hurt, he was knocking down a lot of passes. I hope he can do it again this Sunday. Our "D" is something like #3 in the league. With the d-backs and safetys we have, can you imagine how good our "D" would be with a pass rush? |
Re: Will we force Eli to beat us?
As far as I'm concerned Lorenzo has earned a starting spot. Yeah, I do think JT would play better over the left tackle because that is where he is use to playing.
|
Re: Will we force Eli to beat us?
Oh yeah, w/ Plaxico out for sure we may be able to stick Springs @ FS more this game, which means Landry can hover around the line as a defacto 4th linebacker. Landry can blitz like crazy and just hunt down the ball. If this is the route Blache goes then Hall will def get more than 20-25 snaps in the game, and that's pretty exciting w/ his penchant for INTs.
(somehow I feel more "safe" w/ Springs @ FS than Landry. IMO Springs experience gives him the edge to take better angles and make plays on the ball - Landry even w/ his lightning speed has been a step too late on several receptions this year. hard to know whether it's his hamstring still lingering or just lack of experience to phish out the qb's intent) |
Re: Will we force Eli to beat us?
Like you said before Goat, if Carter is hurt, why not have Evans play his regular spot and put JT in Carters spot?

I forgot about that but you're totally right. I think going against the left tackle batting the pass was often the best he could do. Really, really hoping he flashes his skills this weekend. He's been so quiet and it makes you wonder whether he's sort of moving on from the game or just finding his groove again. |
Re: Will we force Eli to beat us?
Well we've played cobra a lot before and I kinda like the idea of Springs playing FS, Landry at SS, and Horton being in there to do his thing.

I don't know. I hope it's just been a combination of injury, a new system, and playing on the opposite side than he's played for most of his career. But like I said, he's healthy now and it's time to start ballin'. |

I read the Times article about our secondary being the best group on d: Middle linebacker London Fletcher and defensive end-turned-linebacker Jason Taylor stood over the line of scrimmage before dropping back into coverage. Playing nose tackle in a three-man front, Cornelius Griffin backpedaled at the snap. Cornerbacks Shawn Springs and Fred Smoot blitzed from both slot positions. Under duress, Hasselbeck threw so inaccurately that Seattle was penalized for intentional grounding. The Seahawks settled for a field goal in what ended as a 20-17 Redskins victory. The play was emblematic of the options now at defensive coordinator Greg Blache's disposal - four healthy cornerbacks who can do almost anything. a three-man front against NY seems nuts because we just don't have d-line monsters like teams that run the 3-4 or some version of it. |
Re: Will we force Eli to beat us?
^^^ i really liked how blache came out using different looks this game and it really showed early in the game with hasselback having to take TOs b/c he didnt recognize what we were doing. the post game interviews confirmed it.
at week 11 its about time we switch up what were doing sometimes and for the first game in awhile it seemed we had a solid game plan . . i just hope it doesnt take playing our coaches former team to be able to game plan and adjust to upcoming opponents. that being said i have to be patient with coach zorn as he is just learning the NFC east, go skins!! |
Re: Will we force Eli to beat us?
it will be important for the skins not to lose track of domenik hixon as he is a playmaker (anyone watch his two spectacular returns a week ago). That being said, not having plax to defend will definitely free up the defense to concentrate on jacobs/bradshaw/ward.
IMO, this game will depend on the play of hb blades (if fletcher can't go). Will he be able to make plays and stop jacobs after 3/4 yards or will he be overwhelmed and give up a bunch of 12/13 yard runs that move the chains quickly and get the gmen into scoring position with regularity...thats what the game will hinge on. That being said, there is no way that eli will be able to beat the skins' secondary...spring,smoot,rogers,landry,horton,hall are just too good for an average qb like manning to pick apart. |

I'd prefer jacobs get three-fourths of a yard instead of twelve-thirteenths; however they're both a pretty short distance :laughing2 Good point on Hixon as he is quicker than Plax i believe. Still I think Rogers, Hall and even Smoot should be able to basically contain him, leaving S. Springs to play FS or man-up a better receiver. |
Re: Will we force Eli to beat us?
i dont know if well FORCE him to beat us? i keep picturing us picking em off...somethin like Landry across the middle.

Re: Will we force Eli to beat us?
This is a case of a Good football team playing against the best team in the NFL. Our defense has been solid but it's been the offense which has not carried the weight.
If CP has a good game our offense does well; however, it is apparent to me that JC will not progress unless the pass protection improves. Our run defense will be tested in this game. Eli doesn't have to win this game - the three Giant RB will do the job. On any given Sunday, the best team can be beaten. The Redskins are going to have to move to a new level to win on Sunday. I'm hopeful but don't believe this current squad has the juice to beat the Giants. |
Re: Will we force Eli to beat us?
Sup everybody? I been thinking about this Sunday non-stop (probably not the only one) and keep feeling like it will come down to our strategy on defense. I know this sounds weird because it's the offense that has struggled; however, my intuition is our offense is going to play extremely tough football. CP will be 200% focus and I think the o-line will take tremendous pride in smash-mouth football for 4 full quarters as a way to honor Sean and the close friendship between he and Portis. Also, the passing game will continue to open up now that Kelly is making progress and JC has regained some composure.
Defensively, we're facing the best ground game in football. Just curious if anyone thinks Blache will stack the box right from the beginning w/ the front four and then the SS moving up close to the line as a defacto 4th linebacker (and everyone keying in on the backfield)? It forces Eli to beat us, which seems risky at first because he can be very good. But there's this: we've got an elite secondary now w/ Springs healthy and Hall progressing quickly. If we could get an early INT w/ aggressive man-to-man coverage Eli could fall apart as he did against Cleveland (the Giants only loss). Again this is risky, but if we can effectively shut down NY's rushing attack and get a great game from Springs, Rogers, Hall, Landry and Horton I could see Eli begin to struggle early and the Giants unable to adjust.
Goat you are really grasping at straws here. Not saying our Skins can't come away with a win, but it will be due to Eli going back to rookie form and throwing a ton of INTs. It is highly doubtful our hapless lines will dominate the Gmen in the trenches. First, our O line is a bunch of once proud Pro Bowlers now seen as foggies running out of gas, as well as being somewhat injury prone. Did you see the Gmen D line vs Arizona? Those guys are hungry and relatively healthy!! Do you honestly think Jansen or Thomas are going to withstand that kind of onslaught for 4 whole quarters? Also, I think Pierce is going to have a nice reunion with Portis, as the Gmen pass rush eliminates our passing game. And on the other side of the ball............ I guess we won't go there since there is no scientific proof yet of the existence of a Redskin pass rush. All in all, I think we are going to get our collective asses handed to us. Not sure about the playoffs either, but hey, there is a bright side to next season!!!!! Norv is sure to get the boot and maybe Snyder can hire him as the OC in 09! That would be a blast!!!!!!! |

How long since you're prozac prescription ran out? Jeez dude. Norv. Really. Portis ran for 84 yards on 23 carries in the first meeting. Sure he's banged up but if you think he and the chums on the o-line will come out flat in this battle i guess you have very little respect for their character. There will be a nasty bruising battle for 4 qtrs of football and the G-men already have some injuries on defense. |
Re: Will we force Eli to beat us?
If our O-Line can hold then we have a shot. We cannot let Jacobs get rolling either.

The Gmen destroy their opponents while we squeak by the likes of the Sea Chickens and Lions, even if we statistically dominate. Don't even get me going on the Rams!!!!!! Let's hope come tomorrow night that I am eating some major crow, but for now I think we will need much more than an emotional lift to beat the Gmen. |

I truly don't think you can pin the loss today on the o-line (and definitely not on the d-line). Overall, our defense honored Sean today w/ a great game. Sure there was the typical poor coverage from Smoot and a missed tackle here and there, but our defense did a great job against a Giant offense that had the ball for basically the entire game. Eli didn't beat us. The Giant offense didn't beat us. The Giant defense didn't beat us. The Washington Redskins offensive unit lost this game. And while the o-line had some struggles against the very best defensive front 7 in defensive football our entire receiving corp looked like transfers from NAIA college football against a mediocre Giant secondary. GT's review will have the details but I saw dropped passes from every receiver save Thomas. I saw the ball bounce of hands, chests, shoulder pads and face masks. And then an interception by Campbell because he held on way too long like he always has. I don't know what can realistically be done to mend this. Sloppy play on offense and especially among the receiving corp is what lost us the playoff game last year, and the sloppiness/inconsistency just continues under a different coach and different strategy. I would love to hear anyone's ideas on this, any kind of explanation at all. |

Well I agree JC has never been consistently accurate/effective. But my point is that most QBs will rack up nice yardage when they hold the ball all game long. We intercepted him and should have had 1 or 2 more than we did. Eli played an ok game, but I don't think we should downplay the fact that the Giants average 29.9 pts/game and our defense held them under the avg even though Eli had the ball all goddamn day. Seriously, our offensive unit gave us no chance whatsoever. Dropped passes left and right. No rush-blocking. JC holding the ball too long. But one thing i'm relatively sure of - Zorn is not the problem on offense. If the execution was there... we'd be a competitive football team. Our execution is abysmal, as it's been under multiple coaching/scheme/strategy changes. |
Re: Will we force Eli to beat us?
Perhaps we can have a nice friendly chat with Ely next game to characterize a more nuturing, caring type of play without words like "force him to beat us". And perhaps he won't have to KICK OUR ASS AGAIN...............
