I would change our D to a 3-4, just cause it so hard to know who is coming. with T J the #1 then Thomas and kelly can battle for #2 with Cooley, and Portis our ol is Samuels, Kendall, Birk, Jansen, Heyer, our Defense: Carter, Haynesworth, Taylor McIntosh, Fletcher, Blades, Rookie OLB, and you know the DB's already Hall, Rogers, Landry, Horton. but this is what I would do, I am just feeling the holes where we are weak, I dont think we will go after anyone, except Haynesworth. |

Give Betts more carries next 3 games I want to run the offense out of the shotgun as much as possible Bring in Mike vanderget for a tryout Get Fred Davis on the field,why the hell did we draft him? Re: If You Ran the Redskins...
Godd luck to the skins in the final games.As for next year they need to drop Jansen,Washington,Griffin,Randle El,Daniels,Fabini,Rabach,Kendall and Springs for sure.As for Campbell,i dont think he is going to be an elite QB.He holds on to the ball to long,doesnt see the whole field,misses open players.With that said the WR's havent hellped his credibility by dropping passes.But,he does not lead this offense Portis does.The Redskins need a leader at this position or someone that will at least TRY! The OL needs a youth movement,keep Samuels and Thomas and go younger.Lets see what this Brennan kid has.I watched him in college and although everyone says his mechanics are bad,he cant throw long,hes not smart,etc;he TRIES to shoot it out every play.He would be a bigtime spark,and he can throw on the run and excite the team.The Redskins waited to long to bring in youth now they are paying for it.

Re: If You Ran the Redskins...
First of all, I'd like to say "Hail!" since this is my first post. I grew up in D.C. and I've been a Redskins fan for many years.
I feel that the management of the team needs to decide if we're rebuilding or trying to make a playoff run. If we're rebuilding, and I think we should be, then we must stop bringing in older, high-salaried stop-gap players. These type of players are taking up too much salary cap room and some of them are costing us valuable draft picks. Since I believe that we need to rebuild, I certainly agree with those posters who feel that our top priority needs to be rebuilding both lines for the future. I would start with the offensive line because I believe that a dominant offensive line is the key to building a dynasty. I would start by paying top dollar for one or two proven, young free agent offensive linemen. For example, I think it would be a good idea to go after both Jordan Gross and Stacy Andrews. If we were to sign Gross to play LT, then Chris Samuels would move to RT. If we were to sign Stacy Andrews, then Andrews would play RT and Chris would stay at LT. Next, I would do what it takes, moving up as necessary, to get Duke Robinson (6-5, 330) of Oklahoma in the draft. He has greatly impressed me this season and I think that he could start at guard right away. Regardless of whatever else I might do, I would favor younger players over older players both for roster spots and playing time until we're at the point where we can go deep into the playoffs by adding a couple of key veteran free agents. |
Re: If You Ran the Redskins...
o Try and move Todd Collins to the Rams for a draft pick
o Sign Tavaris Jackson as low cost back-up, if the Vikings let him go: he comes from a WCO scheme and would be a Seneca Wallace type project for Zorn to mold, except that Jackson has more raw talent |
Re: If You Ran the Redskins...
1) Get rid of Vinny Cerratto and bring in a real GM. Let that new GM do his job and not micro-manage his every move.
2) Try to renegotiate J. Taylor, S. Springs, Washington, Antwan Randle El $6.1m in 2009 and Andre Cater $6.6M in 2009. If they say no, release Taylor, Springs and Washington in 2009 and release Carter and Randle El in 2010. |
Re: If You Ran the Redskins...
Cut Betts. His 3.3 ypc and 1 TD are not cutting it. sign Maurice Morris.
Keep Rabach as a back up, Sign Matt Birk. Sign Albert Haynesworth, no matter what the cost. If Tenn resigns him, then go trade for a DT. Kevin Williams, Vince Wilfork, Tommie Harris, Kris Jenkins...I don't care what you have to give up, go get one. This year has proven that an elite DT can improve your entire D. (See Stroud in Buffalo or Jenkins in NY) Draft O line and defense. Goodbye Springs, Doughty, Suissham, Plackemeier, Betts, Thrash, Jansen and Golston. Collins retires, promote Hawaii five-0 to #2. Trade for Seneca Wallace. |

Re: If You Ran the Redskins...
Fire Danny Smith. Bring in competition from Suisham, Plack, Rock and ARE. Entire ST is well below average now and we need a new slate of players there and a new coach to drive them.
Keep Deangelo Hall. Dump Springs. No player is worth $1 mill a game and missing half the season. Dump Collins. Bring in a veteran WCO QB. Give him lots of experience in the PS. Give JC until the middle of the season to win games; then open the gates to this veteran. Draft for the OL and DL. Draft more OL than DL. Look for modest OL and DL FA players for reasonable salaries. If anyone won't restructure their salary dump them. Marcus Washington, James Thrash, Rock Cartwright, Betts are all gone. Thx for the memories but we need new blood. See how the WR do in the pre-season, no free rides. Rookies are in a make-or-break season. Hire at least one FA WR. |

Re: If You Ran the Redskins...
Thats why we need to get rid of him, he is over priced (ARE) and he make starter money, we all can sit here and say what we want, but I think the board agrees.......Haynesworth, will be worth the gamble, and adding Birk, will be fine, I have no problem with, T. Jackson, or Wallace coming in, I have a QB comp. at training camp.

Changes for next year
I think they need to make some serious changes for next year starting by firing Vinny for not addressing needs at the lines.
I would clean house and get rid off on Offense: Jansen Fabini Kendall Randle-El Yoder Thrash On defense: Washington Griffin Springs Smoot Taylor (trade if possible) Hall (or sign him to a 2-3 year contract, no more) Wilson Khary Campbell Doughty (trade if possible, Moore can take his place) Special teams: SUISHAM Coaches: Danny Smith Stan Hixon Blache (Offer retirement and promote Jerry Gray to DC) Bugel (I love the man to death but this team is going to kill him and he should retire gracefully and Russ Grimm should be his replacement) We need some serious changes and might even have to trade players like Rogers, Portis, Moss who can offer value to acquire draft picks cause this team is going nowhere soon. *note: I don't if this is possible due to cap ramifications. |
Re: Changes for next year
I would be highly surprised if Grimm took the job.
Time to get rid of Suisham for sure, Washington, Springs, Daniels and maybe Griffith. We need to start injecting youth into both lines otherwise we are going to be having this same discussione next year. Zorn deserves another year. If we bring in another coach we just set ourselves back again. |

We have like 4 draft picks, so the rest would have to come via FA. I agree that a lot of those players need to go, but there is just no way we can replace that many players in one offseason. |
Re: If You Ran the Redskins...
What steps would you take between now and opening day 2009 to improve this team?
Here's what I would want to see happen 1. Don't Quit on Zorn I've talked about this in greater detail in another thread, but I think unless he goes totally Norv on us these next three weeks then it's in the best interest of the team to keep him 2. Give the Chief New Indians If we are going to commit to Zorn as the head coach, even if only for one more year, then we need to entrust him with the responsibility of deciding what staff he wants surrounding him. And I'm going to guess it's going to include maybe 40% of the current staff 3. Trust the Youth Thank you Kendall, Griffin, Thrash, and Washington but they need to take a back seat now-if not leave the team entirely-for some of the younger guys. These younger guys are going to make mistakes but at this point there is no room for improvement with the four aforementioned guys (when they are even healthy) and if we're seeing that we hover around .500 with these guys then it's time to start moving forward 4. Fortify the Offensive Line This is our biggest weakness. We went from experienced linemen to old linemen seemingly overnight (though to be fair, many on this board saw it coming from a mile away). I'd love for us to sign Jordan Gross from the Panthers and draft Duke Robinson in the first round. If we can add another lineman (Unger, Herman Johnson) in the 3rd round that'd be huge. Bottom line we need at least two new offensive linemen. 5. Veteran LB Karlos Dansby. He's my new Justin Smith :) 6. Move He Who Shall Not Be Named to #2 QB I'm tempted to say make training camp an open competition. But I'm more inclined to say we should know by now if Campbell is our guy. If he is, committ to him long-term this off-season and firmly establish him as our guy for the next 5-7 years 7. Renewed Focus on Special Teams I can't pinpoint exactly what the problem is but something needs to change right away, and it may probably have to start with letting Danny Smith go 8. Continue to Give Scott Campbell an Expanded Role in Player Personnel I think this is happening regardless 9. Re-Sign DeAngelo Hall I think they blew it last year when they didn't take advantage of a deep draft class at DB by selecting Justin Tryon. Hall has fallen into their lap and they shouldn't let him get away. They really can't do all that much better at this point What would you do?
~~~~~ Definitely shore up the lines and you got to give Z another year. We CANNOT get into the habit of bringing in a coach for a year then letting them go. Consistency does not happen over night. |
Make trades on draft day, we have players like Alex Buzbee, Matt Sinclair, players on the practice squad, sign FA (Pro and college players not drafted). |
Re: If You Ran the Redskins...
If not Cowher then strongly consider hiring Grimm as our head coach. As I've said before Grimm has learned under Gibbs and Cowher. On top of that he's part of a staff that has the Cardinals going to the playoffs. The only thing I'm unsure about will be Grimms ability to shake up the front office and get the organization away from it's desire to find a Reciever.
Nope. We have 4 picks. We gave our 2nd round pick for "He Who Cannot Sack," our 4th for Pete Kendall and our 6th for Erasmus James We may get a 7th round compensatory pick for Mark Brunnell, but I wouldn't bank on it. |
Re: If You Ran the Redskins...
1. Drop Thrash, Springs, Smoot, any over the hill O linemen.
2. Sorry, but JC is not our man and is not going to win squat for us in terms of playoffs games to say the least. He is average to mediocre and isn't a leader, so why have him start? Only way to rejuvenize JC is open up camp to competition. Light a fire under his ass and maybe he will get better. It still blows my mind we some of the fans in here still think JC is the shit 3. For the love of god draft some linemen in the opening rounds!!!!! 4. Draft some Db's and another tall WR to replace Randel El 5. Tinker with the WCO and add longer routes to open things up in the passing game and/or add more double TE to help with pass blocking. 6. Give Zorn and JC the whole of the '09 season to redeem themselves. If the same medicore season is the result, have both pack their bags. |
Unsigned draftees could be a way to get around that. You might be able to get 2-3 decent players out of that arrangement. |
Re: If You Ran the Redskins...
Blowing the roster up isn't going to help anything. There needs to be some changes to key positions, but wholesale changes aren't going to happen for many reasons.
I'm not sure what website you are reading, but I haven't seen anyone sing Campbell's praises in quite a few weeks. People have simply said he's our best option right now. For some reason, however, Coltmaniacs can't grasp that there is a difference between saying he's our best option and saying he's some God. |
Some of this players already have replacements waiting in the wings: Jansen replaced by Rinehart Fabini replaced by Gesinger or draft pick Kendall replaced by Devin Clark or draft pick Randle-El replaced by Thomas Yoder replaced by Fred Davis Thrash replaced by Malcom kelly On defense: Washington replaced by draft pick or FA signing Griffin replaced by draft pick or FA signing Springs (I would see if he can be signed as a S) Smoot replaced by Tryon or one of our PS players Taylor (trade if possible) Hall (or sign him to a 2-3 year contract, no more) Wilson replaced by FA signing, draft pick or Buzbee Khary Campbell replaced by Matt Sinclair or FA signing or draft pick Doughty (trade if possible, Moore can take his place) A lot of the positions that would be filled would be like 3rd or 4th stringer positions. |
