Re: OM FIELD: Redskins OL - Tale of the Tape
Oh, so you just go get a better one? Well heck let's go do that at all the positions. I kinda think you're a little baffled about what this thread is all about.
That's what the thread is exactly about. |
Re: OM FIELD: Redskins OL - Tale of the Tape
No, if you had to decide between 2 good centers, it would be better off rotating them or playing one at guard. This isn't about just 2 similiar guys. You have 2 guys at center that's not worth playing - you go get another guy.
What is it that you don't understand with that logic? What has gotten you so baffled?
So you kick Randy Thomas to the bench even though the Center is only as good as the other Center but not as good a guard as Thomas? Most centers are not as good as guards. That doesn't make them bad Centers. |
Re: OM FIELD: Redskins OL - Tale of the Tape
Look, if you have one center that is effective in playing well as another, then their weight and height don't really matter does it.
It only matters if the bigger guy plays better.
If they're the same in talent, usually the bigger guy WILL play bigger. Especially against a 340 pound nose tackle. What is it YOU don't understand? |

Who said anything about Randy Thomas? |

That's the whole argument here. That's not what is accepted. Why is the smaller center starting in New England? ... and if they play equally effective, one doesn't play better than another - they're equal! |

The thread is about should we go BIGGER on the o-line. |

Yes, and that's what the argument is about - whether bigger is better. |

The point is - bigger is not always better. |
Re: OM FIELD: Redskins OL - Tale of the Tape

It's not JUST about whether bigger is better. You don't draft a guy JUST because of size. But if you can get the same skill set, footwork, longarms, quickness, etc. AND the guy is 315 over the guy you have at 288, then yes, I think it's an upgrade. |

Never said it was. |

And that's what I've been arguing all along. You have a list of things that determine what makes a lineman play well. Number one priority on that list is not weight unless having more weight is the reason why he plays so well (or conversely, he plays poorly). My point is that being bigger is not necessarily better. I'm sorry to be so argumentative about stuff like this, but any kind of hype really bothers me. I just hate all the hype that people pay attention to and neglect all of the other more important things. |
Re: OM FIELD: Redskins OL - Tale of the Tape
I'm not trying to overlook anything. If a player isn't very good and doesn't possess the proper skills for the position, you don't take him no matter what size he is. But there are some very good players who are bigger than what we've been using, the size of these guys are getting bigger all the time. At all positions. It's becoming increasingly harder to handle the nose tackles in this league. If you can increase the size of your o-line without sacrificing talent, I'm all for it.
