Re: One player the Skins cannot afford to lose to injury in '09
Hunter Smith is actually a really good choice. If he gets hurt, we're screwed. I mean I know we didn't have him last year like we didn't have AH. But if Haynesworth gets hurt we still have Griff, Golston, and Montgomery.
And look where our punting game was last year without him...does anyone really want to bring back the likes of Frost, Brooks, etc.? |
Re: One player the Skins cannot afford to lose to injury in '09
That said, we don't know what we have in Barnes, he could end up beating Smoot for the nickel spot and we may not have much to worry about if he had to spot start a few games.
That's purely speculative, but it could happen.
I thought really hard about Rogers. It would suck to lose him for a significant time. But, yeah, I think that Barnes will be taking Smoot's spot by Halloween and we have some depth at corner. We would be hurtin' without Carlos, for sure, but IMO we'd be hurting more without Fletcher's leadership. |
Re: One player the Skins cannot afford to lose to injury in '09
I've got to agree with the general consensus and go with Samuels is the one player we can't afford to lose, with London Fletcher just barely trailing him.

Re: One player the Skins cannot afford to lose to injury in '09
Offense- Samuels
Defense- Fletcher ST- Albright |

Dude I just told everyone in the parking lot (NCAA10 thread) you'd be back in the fall. So please...go away for a few more weeks :) |
Re: One player the Skins cannot afford to lose to injury in '09
You guys pretty much already said the players we cannot afford to lose.. Samuels is #1 in my list, he's the cornerstone of the line.. We have seen what happened when he went down; it was difficult for me to watch our O play without him.. I held my breath almost every time for JC when they run the pass plays.. As for Portis, as much it would be devasting to lose him; we already have Betts who is pretty much similar with Portis and he already proved us that he's more than capable of taking over the role excluding the fact of his fumble problem..
As for defense, I probably would have to say Landry, as well.. Fletcher is cornerstone of our D but he can always stand on standline with the mic talking to Blades during game.. Since I (and we) don't know how much Moore is improving; we did not really hear much about Landry last season, and that is because he did his job perfectly.. Losing him would make Blache to be more conserve when calling plays; that would be the worst thing that could happen to our D.. |

Re: One player the Skins cannot afford to lose to injury in '09
Chris Cooley.
We would miss his production as a blocker and a reciever, both in the redzone and stretching the field. With Cooley gone they would be able to really give Moss fits. Yes, I remember what Springs said about Davis "going to be the best TE in football in a couple of years", but all of the talent in the world does not necessarily equal on the field production. |

He is such a grinder, and we certainly would not be the same team without him. |
Re: One player the Skins cannot afford to lose to injury in '09
Samuels is the obvious guy no doubt...but it just gets you to thinking how thin the oline is across the board. A Rabach injury might sink the ship just as easily for instance. Losing JC would really crimp the offense but it might be exciting to see Colt come out slingin.
Defensively, I have to go w/ Landry. This will be more apparent this year I expect as he's set to turn elite. Fletcher would be sorely missed but I have a feeling Blades would get there pretty quickly. |
Re: One player the Skins cannot afford to lose to injury in '09
Colt Brennan

Re: One player the Skins cannot afford to lose to injury in '09
Santana Moss unless one of the young guys step up

Re: One player the Skins cannot afford to lose to injury in '09
I think anyone on the offensive line, especially Rabach. You can plug Collins in to QB and have a good year. You can do the same with Betts and Portis.
The Defense is set. If Fletcher goes down we've got guys who can take over and do a good job. The offensive line has had a question mark over it for a long time. Until the FO starts drafting quality players instead of picking up undrafted guys and wash-outs, it's going to stay that way. Samuels: "Our defense has been carrying us pretty much since I've been here. So if we can just get 24 points a game, our defense can bring it home." Sara Walsh: "You think that's realistic...24 ppg?" Samuels: "I think so. We have the talent and this is our coaches second year together." |
Re: One player the Skins cannot afford to lose to injury in '09
I would have to say Samuels , I would hate to see Cp , Landry , or Fletcher go down , but we have a great defense and IMO , Blades and Moore should be fine . Rogers and Hall would be a hit if we lost either of them , you never want to lose a corner . Hope like hell we have ZERO bad Injuries this year .

Also, is there a rule that only one guy on offense/defense can have a headset, because I thought I remembered last year some guy getting injured near the end of last year, on a play-off contender, and he was in the ear of some young lineman telling him what he was supposed to do in a headset. Also, I wonder who's in JC's ear? There's Zorn and Sherman Smith and sometimes you see backup QBs with headsets. And in response to the question, I would say Samuels. I think Moore can replace Landry. I think Smoot and Barnes are solid as well as Betts. Collins took us to the playoffs when he came in two years ago. Fletcher is close, but I think AH and Orakpo will help a lot especially at stopping the run so there won't be as much pressure on the MLB. |
Re: One player the Skins cannot afford to lose to injury in '09
Nobody else thinking Landry? He's the one guy whose absence would dramatically alter the defensive scheme.
Good call on Landry. He's the one guy on defense the Skins can't afford to lose, and by a pretty huge margin.
But I still say that with the lack of depth on offense, there's about four guys who come in ahead of Landry overall. |
Re: One player the Skins cannot afford to lose to injury in '09
Offense- Clinton Portis
Defense- London Fletcher |

Vinnie-Look-inna-my-eyes-Cerrato! Without him we wouldn't be able to replace anyone going down! VC is that Playa!
The Redskins best weapon is Clinton Portis. Without him, the Skins are a less than average team. Samuels, Moss, Campbell, Fletcher, Landry and Haynesworth are very important but Portis is the face of the Redskins.
Hard for me to say Portis or Campbell, since we've seen the Skins excel with both of them out for extended periods of time. I know all the counter-arguments, but still don't think either of them being injured would totally unravel the offense. So I'll say Samuels as well. Campbell, like most QBs, can be very effective with lots of time. On D, probably Haynesworth. His play has the ability to elevate everyone on defense. He stuffs the run, affords the DEs single coverage, which in turn leads to more sacks and forces bad throws, which leads to more fumbles and interceptions, etc. Like I've said before, I'm of the opinion that you don't need high-paid cornerbacks when your front 4 can consistently put pressure on the QB, so I don't think Rogers or Hall are all that important (assuming Haynesworth is as advertised and our DEs don't suck). |
Re: One player the Skins cannot afford to lose to injury in '09
It might be Santana Moss. We've sucked without him and even if Thomas steps up this year, without 'Tana on the other side, defense's will just key on him like they do Santana. Hopefully Kelly plays well too, but I'd hate to see our offense without Moss right now.

Re: One player the Skins cannot afford to lose to injury in '09
portis would be a big hit obviously to the productivity of the offense.. but he would hurt the entire team as well. Him easily being one of the top players on our team 'the heartbeat' im sure losing him would make our less than spectacular offense worse... making field position just awful. our D would be backed up on its heels all the time.. and it just wouldnt be pretty. these last few seasons hes been leading the NFL in rushing overall or yardage (basically hes been in the elite group with 2 other backs) and then injuries take their toll around week 10.. and its downhill from there just missing the playoffs or something else thats detrimental to our team.
For our defense... were thin all over the place it seems. after losing sean taylor it seems if our safties take a hit then were putting in a lack of experience.. our D line has been an issue for awhile not generating pressure so losing andre carter or god forbid albert haynesworth would be devastating.. and london fletcher being the heartbeat of our defense would crush us as well. we really cant afford to lose anyone.. our biggest weakpoints have to be linebackers for defense.. and offensive line for offense. i want to add running backs as i said for Portis.. but Ladell Betts has proven he can be a great runner. hes also had a couple hiccups before though.. |

Re: One player the Skins cannot afford to lose to injury in '09
Samuels, without question. If he goes down Campbell will take an absolute beating. The FO must address the O-line early and often in the next draft. We have not selected an O-lineman earlier than the 3rd round since Samuels was taken #3 overall in the 2000 Draft.

i really want to say fletcher because he is a beast and my favorite redskin, but there is a much better choice. portis. good lord where would we be without him.

I agree minus Campbell:rofl:..Without Portis we have NO CONSISTENT offense. In a very close second it would be LaRon Landry and London Fletcher would be my third. |
Re: One player the Skins cannot afford to lose to injury in '09
AH he was brought here to get double & triple teamed leaving the rest of DL one on one there by allowing us to get more sacks and QB pressure resulting in int and shorter field for the offense.

True but we didnt have him last yr and the defense was still good. He will make it better and help the rush but if he went down we would be in the same boat as last yr. If i had to choose id rather see him than London. |

AH may not blow the stat sheet up this season but he will take double and triple teams that will free up the other Dlinemen to make plays. We need guys like Carter,Daniels,Wynn and Rak to step up and take advantage. |
Re: One player the Skins cannot afford to lose to injury in '09
Now only if GB can be more agressive we will be a dangerous defense.IMO

Re: One player the Skins cannot afford to lose to injury in '09
I actually like the idea of RAK playin OLB, that way GB can move him around so he can get the favorable matchups vs rb's in pass pro. The guy has freakish ability, ill take that matchup anyday.

That's what they wanted Lavar for but he always wanted to freelance and i'm still a fan of his.

yeah but he did lay out Troy Aikman ..

If our DF coordinator had been accomadating with Lavar as they are with AH saying where going to do a few things AH likes i think Lavar would still be here. Let me stop dreaming and move on, a tear just rolled down my cheek LMAO, just some food for thought.
