Re: Collins locks up the #2 job, Colt and Chase fighting for the #3
chase will win the 3rd spot IF he plays as good against the pats, like he did the steelers..
|
Re: Collins locks up the #2 job, Colt and Chase fighting for the #3
I like Colt, but at the same time i have nothing against Chase.may the best man win.

Re: Collins locks up the #2 job, Colt and Chase fighting for the #3
I think pre-season is a built in excuse. Let's see what happens once the real games begin. 18 days!

Re: Collins locks up the #2 job, Colt and Chase fighting for the #3
Id like to think CB would get a shot with the 2's vs their 2's. He has been in cleanup action in both games thusfar and the protection was terrible vs the Ravens which i believe was the reason Chase didnt play in that one. Zorn admitted that the protection faild CB in the first game.

Re: Collins locks up the #2 job, Colt and Chase fighting for the #3
Colt's post-game comments on Saturday were a bit interesting. He said that he basically forced that interception because he was trying to impress and make the team. He said had it been the regular season, he probably would have just taken the sack.
Well, that's the thing. If you want to make the team you have to also make smart decisions when you get your shot in the preseason. And sometimes that's taking the sack. But you can definitely tell that he's feeling the pressure just to stay on the team if he's admitting that he's forcing plays that aren't there. |

Did I miss something are you wanting TC in at QB now? Becasue of your pic |
Re: Collins locks up the #2 job, Colt and Chase fighting for the #3
What are the chances that no quarterback currently on our roster will be still be here opening day 2010?
What are the chances that no quarterback currently on our roster will be still be here opening day 2010?
Without a Head Coach change, zero. Even if JC blows it and TC retires, one of the young guys will stay on the roster. If we dump everyone it would look real bad on the FO & Zorn.
|
Re: Collins locks up the #2 job, Colt and Chase fighting for the #3
It would be odd to dump everyone at QB but with a coaching change who knows. Let's just get through this season.
When I saw that last night, I almost threw up in my mouth.
Collins can't throw more than 15 yds. Maybe 30 with a tail wind.
He connects with those throws though. |
Re: Collins locks up the #2 job, Colt and Chase fighting for the #3
TC's arm is fine.
How quickly we forget about what a true weak arm looks like. Matthews, Wuerffel, Brunell at the end. |
Re: Collins locks up the #2 job, Colt and Chase fighting for the #3
^ So do you want TC to be the starter?

No, why?

Re: Collins locks up the #2 job, Colt and Chase fighting for the #3
I've always been a skeptic of any QB that put up ridiculous college numbers with the Run & Shoot, the Spread or any other quirky passing offense, all of which I will refer to as the Chuck & Duck. The number of QBs who flamed out after running a C&D system in college is a long one. Remember Timmy Chang, who preceded Colt at Hawaii? How about Andre Ware, David Klingler, Danny Weurffel, Kliff Kingsbury, Tim Couch, etc. Yes, Chase ran a Spread O at Mizzou, but he certainly looks a lot more disciplined, yet decisive than Colt IMO. And to those who were calling for Colt over Jason - that notion is downright laughable.

Wow....did someone really say that? Going to fan day last year, the difference in Soup and Colt was pretty crazy. JC's throws look like lasers, and Colt's look like lollipops, there really is no comparision IMO. If we are just comparing physically, its not even fair, Soup is a much more talented player. Now mentally we need them both to step up and start making some better reads with the ball. With our running game, and a stellar defense, the last thing we need is a gunslinger, at least Soup is taking care of the ball. Now if he can just start putting some numbers on the board, Ill be very happy. Im looking forward to Fridays game, hopefully the starters will play the entire first half. |

How bout Jim Kelly and Warren Moon? both played in the R&S before coming to the NFL. Both were very good if i remember correctly. |
Re: Collins locks up the #2 job, Colt and Chase fighting for the #3
I remember reading somewhere CB saying that you try to play like the coach wants you to but you're the one on the field and sometimes you have to do it your way. I remember reading it to my GF and saying that I didn't think Zorn would like this if he read it. I wish I could find it.
|
Re: Collins locks up the #2 job, Colt and Chase fighting for the #3
BTW. Chang played 5 yrs to get the records he got. CB played 3 and smashed most of them. So IMO thats a HUGE difference in what each did in their careers. If you do something in 5 yrs and someone catches you in 3 then its pretty obvious who is better.

Re: Collins locks up the #2 job, Colt and Chase fighting for the #3
watching nfl network.. either GB looks to be pretty good or Buffalo is really bad. - T.O
|
Re: Collins locks up the #2 job, Colt and Chase fighting for the #3
well it is Buffalo so it may be a bit of both lol
|
Re: Collins locks up the #2 job, Colt and Chase fighting for the #3
Part of me wants Chase to throw a pick or 2 so we can retain him on the practice squad and keep all 4.
We may need all 3 backups if Campbell doesn't cut it. And at that point next preseason, we can really determine which to keep |
Re: Collins locks up the #2 job, Colt and Chase fighting for the #3
I want colt to win it, but i sadly have to say that chase looks to have almost secured it...hopefully colt rebounds and daniel falters, so that way he gets it back...and if the skins like chase so much, then way don't they make up a fake injury and put him on IR to keep him that way..

Re: Collins locks up the #2 job, Colt and Chase fighting for the #3
I just dont see how we can all make an assessment of Chase after a single outing.
Put the man in again with the 4th quarter scrubs and see how he does. |
Re: Collins locks up the #2 job, Colt and Chase fighting for the #3
Colt should be sued for trademark infringement. He's a glorified Chinese counterfeit pistol. I've seen enough, cut him.

Re: Collins locks up the #2 job, Colt and Chase fighting for the #3
A big intagible going for Chase....character
One more, discipline. |

Wow, kindof harsh for a guy who went 3/5 for 48yds. 1 throw away and a pick. avg'd more ypa than the other qb's and had a nice drive until he tried to force a play for a 1st inside the 10. lets just cut em all and keep Chase as the starter since he can score,JC can be his backup since he doesnt turn it over.TC threw a pick and stumbled so he is gone as well. :) |
Re: Collins locks up the #2 job, Colt and Chase fighting for the #3
I think it's way to soon to make a decision. What if Chase throws an INT the next time he plays and generally looks like a rookie, and Colt drives the team down the field and throws for 2 TD's? Good luck to both but there are still 2 more preseason games to rise or fall.

It's nice when we agree. Crystalized my thoughts eloquently. Although I would wait 'til final cuts just to make sure what we're seeing out of Chase is real. |

Warren Moon and Jim Kelly were GREAT college QBs running more traditional systems. They were going to succeed at the next level regardless of the system. It was Moon's misfortune that NFL GMs weren't colorblind after leading Washington to a Rose Bowl victory. He took a strange route to NFL stardom, starting his pro career in the CFL.
I can only think of a few C&D college QB's who've had success at the next level - Neil Lomax and Ty Detmer (marginal success) come to mind. I'm sure I've missed others, but for the record, I do like Tim Tebow a lot. He's definitely a high-character type that I always root for. |
i am certainly not a cultist, but is it possible that chase is far enough along to overtake a qb that has had a full year in this system? i dont see it. part of me wants to keep them both (PJ5 and CD) and put collins out to pasture. it would certainly be feast or famine from there.
***K that. Collins has already proven his worth to the organization. It's time to kick JC to the curb - going on five years, and this first-rounder STILL can't find his fanny with both hands! |
