Why include it in your original post then? You had to have known it was going to a point of discussion. Sorry but you kind of opened the door for it.
And I'm putting a stop to it before anybody else allows it to go further as well. |

Re: Let's Give Jim Zorn Some Love!
Seems like good guy, he's just not a good head coach or game day coach.
|
Re: Let's Give Jim Zorn Some Love!
He is definitely not ready now but I love the fact that he has not resigned and still wants to somehow make the Skins better. His press conferences are really upsetting though because after the Skins go out and lose to horrible team after horrible team, he says "lots of good things today" well yeah, no one died, thats a good thing. Just once I want him to say, we were shit today and we need to completely change how we are doing things.
Just once put the onus on the team and say you guys really need to get better. The reason I say this is that what he is basically saying is that it is okay to lose as long as " a lot of good things happened". thats bs. |
Re: Let's Give Jim Zorn Some Love!
Do you really have to start that crap up? Because honestly, as a born again Christian, I can testify that you're absolutely wrong. I know of plenty of great, outstanding people who are not Christians. I also happen to know several not so good people who call themselves Christians. And, since Zorn himself has stated that he is a Christian, then from the evidence I have seen, he a good man, and appears to be a good Christian man. I'm not going to get into a religious debate, because I think you're doing nothing more than trying to hijack a perfectly good thread. However, I will just say this and I am not going to speak of it again. As a Christian, there are values taught to us that we must live by. Very tough values that may or may not always be taught in the secular world. And by observing what Jim Zorn has been going through, it takes clinging to those Christian values to keep your sanity and to keep your wits about yourself. Despite how Zorn has been treated, I am surprised he hasn't given up and called Vinny and Dan every name in the book. It's a strong willed man to not break down, and I respect Jim Zorn for that.
As a head coach, he is obviously not head coach material just yet. He needs time to develop as a play caller before he ever moves up the latter again. But, the way he has carried himself, although at times appears to be kind of a "golly gee" type of personality, he has that likable personality. I can't help but to like the guy and root for him. Certainly if all possible I wouldn't want him to fail in Washington, but it's obvious even if the Redskins start winning again and win the rest of the games of this season, Zorn probably wouldn't get any credit for it (would be all given to the bingo caller!)
Oh and let me guess you have one black friend one asian friend one gay friend etc...you know just in case someone questions you about it. I have heard it before. |

Dude, I don't know what your problem is, but you need to ditch the attitude and act like you have some sense. You don't know a thing about me. I don't know a thing about you. If you're man enough to shut your trap then I'm man enough to let it go. The point of this thread is to give Zorn some appreciation, not to be so sensitive because I called him a Christian. Wow, that's just ridiculous! |

Re: Let's Give Jim Zorn Some Love!
My response to the title: NO!
I'm convinced that success in this league is all about schemes and coaching. Just look at the broncos. Looking at their front 7 coming into the season, they without a doubt had the worst defense in football. Most of their starters were all crappy backups for other teams. Look at where they are now with Mcdaniels and Nolan. Enough said. |

Re: Let's Give Jim Zorn Some Love!
We all know that the playcalling has been one of the many problems but I also like what this article says, if you haven't seen it, about the execution of the plays being the problem not the "play calling"

Jaws: Zorn's playcalling not Redskins' problem | ProFootballTalk.com
The funny thing is, when the plays are executed perfectly, no one complains about the play calling even though the play calling may not be a perfect balance of run VS pass. I remember several years ago, maybe back in the Norv Turner days, the Tampa Bay Bucs kept running the same running play up the middle, over and over again against us. Why? Because it worked each and every time. My point is, when the execution is not there, then the play calling is at fault. Now, I'm not saying Zorn's play calling has been great, because he has called some plays that I thought were not the right plays to call at that particular time. But, last year Zorn looked to be brilliant because the execution was there. So, do we still put the blame on the coach at that point or is it the player's fault? |

Good coaches get players to execute plays well. |
Good coaches get players to execute plays well.
Fair enough and I agree with you. Like I said before, Jim Zorn is not head coach material at this point, but I do think he has backing of the players in the locker room. |
Re: Let's Give Jim Zorn Some Love!
Let me ask this....I thought Zorn only had 2 yrs. Somewhere I thought I read he had this yr and one more yr? Which would be a third yr. If so.....Since DS doesn't want to cut Zorn cause he would have to pay him ....could DS demote him to QB coach and bring in a new GM and HC? and if Zorn doesn't like it he can leave?
|
Re: Let's Give Jim Zorn Some Love!
Obviously, it depends on the contract. The language I have heard is "3 years guarranteed" and I am betting that it specifies the guarranteed position as being head coach. I doubt there is a clause that says something like "you forfeit the guarrantee if you refuse to be demoted." As long as Zorn neither quits the HC position or acts in breach of his k, DS is going to owe him a 3rd year.
If you're asking would JZ agree to be demoted and stay with the team so that a new HC could be brought in, I seriously doubt he would agree to that. I sure as hell wouldn't. |
Re: Let's Give Jim Zorn Some Love!
Good coaches get players to execute plays well.
Good coaches also do not bother to waste time on acquiring or developing players they think will not learn. But it's not like Zorn ever had a say in the 2008 draft.
|
Re: Let's Give Jim Zorn Some Love!
Well, as has been said before, Vinny and Snyder like to have somebody they can push around when things go sour. I've even second guessed Zorn on his play calling, but if everything had worked as he planned it, he would be regarded as a genius. They didn't work this year, mainly because of the offensive line and a jittery QB, so Zorn is viewed as a loser by the front office, not as a genius I wonder why Portis hasn't said anything about Zorn this year?

Re: Let's Give Jim Zorn Some Love!
This is so bizzare. I just heard Kevin Sheehan (980) on ESPN TV. It was as if he'd been reading Warpath to down to a thread. It was scary the stuff he was repeating on air. Like, the fans here (in Washington) could care less if Jon Gruden is hired, they want Cerrato's head; they want him fired. A new coach won't satisfy this very angry fan base. They don't think Zorn is the problem, he's just symptomatic of a larger problem. Even the part about Zorn staying to get the paid the remainder of his contract and how he wouldn't let the Skins push him out.
He really captured in about 3 minutes what has been writted here over the past month. |

Makes total sense now. I'd bet there's a good chance RedBar works for ESPN. Sheehan almost quoted, verbatim, the sentiment from this forum over the past week or so. I like, I like. |

I kinda figured it would be position specific, but I was trying to figure out if there was some loop hole DS/VC may have found in regards to "hoping Zorn is the coach of the furture" statement. Obviously instead of cutting him they could move him to another position and technically he's still with the team in the future. LOL. Any coach that would agree to a demotion is crazy so I doubted he would step down to be QB coach. |
