You would take a guy who couldnt even make a roster in the league over a pro bowl RB? WOW |

Re: Jim Zorn says redskins could pursue L. Johnson
Why would we sign another old RB? RB's are OLD once they hit 29-30. This brings NO value, alienates Betts and continues to destroy our team spirit. Bring back Aldrige or Mason for heaven's sake. You spend on high priced vets when you have a shot to go deep into playoffs. We have NO shot at that, I'd rather develop young talent and spend less.
I saw Portis after game yesterday taking pictures with the crowd. He seemed fine to me. I bet he only misses one game as a precaution. |
Re: Jim Zorn says redskins could pursue L. Johnson
Let Larry Johnson sleep under the over pass before bringing him here.

Re: Jim Zorn says redskins could pursue L. Johnson
The move would be a total waste of money. You would be better served in drafting a low rounder RB than acquiring Johnson.
I would not say it would be a "total" waste of money. If LJ is signed, there is no waste at all. Any player that is one the roster for week 1 of the regular season, then, the team is on the hook for his salary for the entire regular season. Even if he is released in week 2, he still gets the salary for the whole year. However, any player signed AFTER week 1 is in the books, then if released you dont own him squat. So if a team brings in LJ for the remainder of this season and allows him to prove himself before signing him to a longer deal, there is little risk and high reward if he pans out. |

Re: Jim Zorn says redskins could pursue L. Johnson
Instead of posting rumors, how about a better source:
Redskins Insider - Will Larry Johnson be the new RB?
Speaking to reporters today, Zorn did not rule out the possibility of the Redskins pursuing Johnson. He said the team has had internal discussions this morning and will continue to talk about the troubled running back. Zorn said the team will likely sign a running back if Portis can't play -- he specifically mention Quinton Ganther, whom the team released last Friday. As for Johnson, "I don't know," Zorn said. I need to have a longer conversation than I've had to make a decision," Zorn said.
|
Re: Jim Zorn says redskins could pursue L. Johnson
smootsmack have you heard anything on this?
|
Re: Jim Zorn says redskins could pursue L. Johnson
It all pretty much BS and Zorn just wanted to sound like he was actually giving input on what going on with the Skins.
|
Re: Jim Zorn says redskins could pursue L. Johnson
wow another horrible decision...why am i surprised
Just so you will know it can only be a horrible decision if they actually sign him not before. |
Re: Jim Zorn says redskins could pursue L. Johnson
What I dont understand is we have RB depth already, Betts. Im not a huge fan of him, but why do we always look for something better when what we got is suffecient. Remember the Jason Taylor debacle? I hope we dont do this. Culture change is needed, knee-jerk decisions by Snyder and Vinny have not worked in Snyder's miserable ownership era.

I'm interested in knowing who's split. $10 says Vinny nearly shat himself with glee when he found out LJ was on waivers. |

It might be an ESPN-mandated "work vacation" though. Those aren't nearly as fun. |

Portis could be out for a while, and if LJ was to get picked up it would be a short term kind of deal anyway with no real financial risk and no picks given up. Not saying I would support such a move, but I could understand it. |
Re: Jim Zorn says redskins could pursue L. Johnson
No no no...please let this not be true, this season is a waste already, don't blow any more resources.
|
Re: Jim Zorn says redskins could pursue L. Johnson
Yeah, I would caution against us potentially picking up LJ as just another Snyder high-priced free agent signing or as another sign that things will never change at Redskins Park. Under the circumstance, I could understand us signing, I would imagine, a healthy Larry Johnson.
I'm willing to bet, he'd be much better than Shawn Alexander too. |
No no no...please let this not be true, this season is a waste already, don't blow any more resources.
It is my understanding that the Redskins wouldn't have to pay him or wouldn't have to pay him much if he's picked up. |
Re: Jim Zorn says redskins could pursue L. Johnson
pats are looking at him, I would rather have a bad team like us to have him than a good team like NE having him.
|
Re: Jim Zorn says redskins could pursue L. Johnson
Mistake, excessive baggage, price tag, despite the latter never seming to be a problem here.

If a team picks LJ up off the waiver wire (which means before 4 PM eastern time on 11/10), then that acquiring team also picks up his moneies owed. And LJ is carrying a 2.1Mill price tag right now. The "Waiver Wire" is done in the order of the draft, each team gets a chance in that order to pick him up. If no team picks him up off the wire (before 4PM EST), then he becomes and unrestricted free agent and can be signed by any team, but, the contract negotiations start all over and he looses that 2.1 mill. |
Re: Jim Zorn says redskins could pursue L. Johnson
If we were in the playoff race, it would be a good signing.

Is Mason available? (surely this discussion hasn't gone this long without someone asking the ultimate question ;))

Mason's gotta be tired of the Skins guiding him around by his nuts. I mean, it is money, but does he really wanna get back on the Skins bandwagon after they've repeatedly cut him? |
Re: Jim Zorn says redskins could pursue L. Johnson
I find it so funny that everyone wants to compare a 1st round talent like LJ to a mason who can seem to stay on the roster. come on man!

He was interviewed on the Dan Patrick show about 45 minutes ago and he seemed to be a very articulate, intelligent guy, kind of impressed by him. Too bad his actions speak louder.

What are his options right now? I mean we are talking about a 53rd roster spot kind of guy. |
Re: Jim Zorn says redskins could pursue L. Johnson
If the Skins call he will come running. They pay like twenty grand a game.

For example, the Redskins drafted 13th but now are around position 6 (depending on tiebreakers) for waivers. |
