Re: The Workplace
Someone in my office cooks brussel sprouts in a toaster oven...the smell is so bad my eyes tear.
As for the popcorn...mocrowave popcorn is disgusting in general even when not burned. Take a couple extra minutes and get out the real popcorn and pop it in some healthy sunflower oil...delicous. Well anyway...i guess thats something you can't really do at work. |

Heat up some oil in a big pot, add about a cup of kernels, melt down some real butter... damn I think I know what I'm having for a snack this weekend! |

Re: The Workplace
right on.. probably enough field work that it makes sense to have you mostly out of home right?
I don't work in the field unfortunately, it's all boring office work. Basically all you need for my job is a phone and a computer. So it makes total sense that they want to move everyone to a home office eventually. |
Re: The Workplace
If I began to write in this thread about my office, I miss Memorial Day. Other then great pay, never a minute more then 40 hours a week and it is a mile from my house I would have left years ago, my co-workers drive me that crazy.

Interesting. I've worked for 3 insurance companies and I've never heard of it. In fact I've never used any sort of software for determining settlement values of claims. Sure would be nice to use as a guide though. |

I've also done auto and disability
I'm guessing its been a few years sense you have done any auto claims because that system is pretty common today. After thinking about it I'm very surprised that you don't have some type of program as a guide as to what should be paid to doctors and others providing a service. How do you know when a doctor is charging the correct amount when you get a customers bill? |
Re: The Workplace
Well I worked in no-fault, so we didn't do settlements. Never heard of that program being used on the BI side but it's possible it's being used now.

yeah we just got a copy of collusus. pretty damning stuff in there for the way that particular insurance company determines what value to set for a PI auto neg claim. of course now that the secret is out of the bag and attys know what triggers bumps in the settlement offers, they will change their mathematical equation like approach. kinda like how an automaker determines whether they would save more money by recalling defective vehicles and fixing them vs just letting accidents happen then hope your attorneys can limit the settlements. geez workers comp is no picnic. so happy i do mostly auto neg with federal suits and rape cases thrown in there. |

Does the system in NY require getting pre approvals and the use of codes for ever procedure done on a patient? |

yup we dont touch em anymore. matty i have a lil secret for you. doctors reduce their bills to the client after we settle and you cut the check. lol like you dont know that already thoo. but thats it, thats the only unwritten trick we have. FD - your probably ref to CPT codes, which as collusus touches on, the more CPT codes a client/patient has, the more a computer printout shows the injuries and treatment, the more they will get paid. we used to write out the treatments rec'd in our demands but found that adjusters werent reading and considering every treatment all the time. with CPT codes, the adjuster just plugs in the codes or counts them and the adjuster has a full data-code driven idea of the treatment. is my understanding of this correct? so freakin ready to blow a hole thru the door and get outta here. co workers are dropping like flies. |

I used to work in a bank with all women and I fought with them every day over the damn A/C. They liked it stifling hot. I loved it when customers complained because I could turn to the women and say see, it's too damn hot in here. |
Re: The Workplace
Seriously. Girls like it way too hot. We have one girl in my house, and she turned the freaking HEAT on. My room is always way hotter than the rest and I like it COLLLDDDD.

It's even better when they walk up on you start asking their questions, and then go, "oh, you're eating lunch, sorry to interrupt" and continue on interrupting. I wait til their finished, then look them dead in the eye for about 20-30 seconds, long enough to be a good uncomfortable silence, and then answer their question before turning back to my lunch without waiting for them to ask follow ups... Re: The Workplace
I got a big scare at the office today (which is where I still am and I think I'm about to lose my mind)....
For a couple of hours our company's IT people had a ton of websites on lockdown. I obviously couldn't check my yahoo fantasy baseball team but I also couldn't check my Yahoo email. I couldn't get on the Post's sports page or log onto my second home, The Warpath. I couldn't get onto a client's website since it's a retail store. Basically I couldn't get anywhere, except for espn.com, which was weird. I can understand the fantasy sports websites and ebay, amazon, etc. but Yahoo email? Our company handbook specifically says it is ok to check person email accounts from company computers as long as it doesn't interfere with work. Anyway, all back to normal... for now. |

From the side of an injured worker with an UNINSURED employer once that required legal action...I can agree with the nightmare part. Fortunately for me, my lawyer was a former WC JUDGE, so he was toast from the start. Still took a year to reach a fair settlement for me. |
Re: The Workplace
My job is so unbelievable. I'll try to sum it up by first telling you about the folks I work with:
First, there is this supermodel wanna-be chick. Yeah, okay, she is pretty hot, but damn is she completely useless. The girl is constantly fixing her hair or putting on makeup. She is extremely self-centered and has never once considered the needs or wants of anyone but herself. She is as dumb as a box of rocks, and I still find it surprising that she has enough brain power to continue to breathe. The next chick is completely the opposite. She might even be one of the smartest people on the planet. Her career opportunities are endless, and yet she is here with us. She is a zero on a scale of 1 to 10. I'm not sure she even showers, much less shaves her "womanly" parts. I think she might be a lesbian, because every time we drive by the hardware store, she moans like a cat in heat. But the jewel of the crowd has got to be the damn stoner. And this guy is more than just your average pothead. In fact, he is baked before he comes to work, during work, and I'm sure after work. He probably hasn't been sober anytime in the last ten years, and he's only 22. He dresses like a beatnik throwback from the 1960's, and to make things worse, he brings his big dog to work. Every day I have to look at this huge Great Dane walk around half-stoned from the second-hand smoke. Hell, sometimes I even think it's trying to talk with its constant bellowing. Also, both of them are constantly hungry, requiring multiple stops to McDonald's and Burger King, every single bloody day. Anyway, I drive these folks around in my van and we solve mysteries and stuff. I stole this joke for the record. |
Re: The Workplace
I enjoy my job for the most part. The folks I work with are pretty cool. It's a family owned business and we have several special divisions. Mine is the construction side, mostly carpentry and repair work.
The owner is an older guy, pretty short but really knowledgeable and for the most part he stays out our hair until things get really fubar'd. Then he shows up and makes us all look like dummies when he bails us out. We got this hot chick that works in the office. Blistering hot, blonde hair, wears short skirts everyday. I'm not real sure what she does at work but I do know she's serviced every guy in the company, myself included. She's pretty much the company whore. We got these two other idiots that work in a different division, one of em sleeps all day at his work station and generally doesn't do a damn thing. He's part of every fubar situation we have here. The other is a damn pessimistic sunuvabitch. He hates everything, just the other day I told him I'd have no problem offing his emo ass with a claw hammer. Anyways I have to get back fixing all the houses that Gargamel and Azrael fucked up. I hate those guys. Not as funny as the first and stolen again. |
