Re: Nfl Regular season thread ( week 5 )
Let's go around the league and look at what several former Redskins did in todays action for instant analysis:
The most polarizing former Redskin, Jason Campbell, came in in relief of Bruce Gradkowski, and went 13 of 18 for 159 yards and a touchdown and was able to be efficient in guiding Oakland's first win against San Diego in their last 14 tries. A backup to our former backup running back/special teams standout Rock Cartwright was inactive in Oakland's win over San Diego. A former backup to Clinton Portis by the name of Ladell Betts had his fumble returned for a touchdown in Arizona's suprising upset of New Orleans. He also had 44 yards on 10 carries for a 4.4 yard average. A former cornerback of ours by the name of Justin Tryon didn't do anything of note in the Colts win over the Chiefs. A former receiver of ours by the name of Brandon Lloyd had 5 receptions for 135 yards and 2 touchdowns, including a very impressive dive on a deep bomb for a touchdown at the end of the first half (seriously wtf, he's ballin it up now) in Denver's defeat at Bawl'more. And last but not least (as far as I know), our 2007 late season hero Todd Collins went 6 of 16 for 32 yards and 4 interceptions (for a 6.2 qb rating) before he was pulled for the awesomeness that is Caleb Hanie in the Bears demolition of the Panthers. On a side note how bad are the Panthers really if TC gives them 4 interceptions and they still lose that bad? EDIT: Due to mild confusion on my behalf (see below post), apparantly Rock Cartwright blocked a punt for the Raiders in their win over San Diego. |
Re: Nfl Regular season thread ( week 5 )
Rock blocked a punt today
|
Re: Nfl Regular season thread ( week 5 )
The Panthers offense is terrible. Their defense is pretty good. The O just gives no help at all.

Re: Nfl Regular season thread ( week 5 )
Skins win again , Dallas chokes again and Monday is a holiday = a great weekend :)

He could have taken a chance with Heyward-Bey, but he pulled it down. Even Wilcots mentioned it. |
Re: Nfl Regular season thread ( week 5 )
Rock blocked a punt today
I thought he recovered the blocked punt for a touchdown at first because I heard his name mentioned and then I saw the #31 and assumed it was him on NFLN's highlights (apparantly not, it's S Hiram Eugene) and I was under the impression he had the recovery, but when I checked on ESPN.com under their stats page for the game he wasn't listed under the fumble section so I clicked his name on Oakland's page on ESPN.com and it said under his season stats that he did not play or accumulate any stats, hence why I came to the assumption he was inactive. Either way that's my b, I assumed the announcers just got the name wrong on the NFLN highlights show once I saw that Hiram Eugene was #31. Just a little mixup on my behalf. |
I was trolling the blogging the boys site after the loss and their freakin hilarious. The first thing they say after the loss is "its not Romo's fault", protecting they mancrush on an overrated, certified POS QB who's never won sh*t. The second thing they say is "how can such a talented team be so bad" or my favorite comment I read "this year the good teams are bad, and the bad teams are good." People were actually agreeing with the latter. That team is sooooo lost right now...Jason Garrett is freakin horrible. Wade is never gonna win them a superbowl. And the talent level on that team is completely overrated, starting with their LBs and CBs
The good teams are bad, and the bad teams are good. That's freaking hilarious. You are who you are. Dallas is playing like total shit and their 1-3 record proves it. If it looks like a turd and smells like a turd.... |

I am still pissed off, that we got rid of Antonio Dixon. He would have made a good NT.

Stating facts doesn't make it that I'm that emotionally invested in pointing out his flaws. That said, the accusations of him being overly conservative in decision making are further confirmed, which makes me wonder I brushed aside all of his flaws when he was here. |
Re: Nfl Regular season thread ( week 5 )
49ers truly suck. Philly had done everything to let them back in it and Smith gets sacked and his fumble gets returned for a TD. Singletary is a goner after this season!!!!

If they had a QB it would be a different story, that what's killing this team. |

its a long season,it wouldnt surprise me if they ended up winning the division, they have the most talent and should win.On the other hand it wouldnt surprise me if they finished 6-10,I sure hope so |

Agreed. I wouldn't be suprised if the Giants or Eagles or Cowboys get things on track either. It's still too early in the season to make snap judgements. |

If dallas goes down at Min, it's all over for them. |
Re: Nfl Regular season thread ( week 5 )
Things that shocked me today
Giants blowing out the texans Kevin Kolb scrambling for 19 yds on 3rd and 18 Alex Smith telling Mike singletary he is not sitting out the game Cris Collinsworth comparing Kevin Kolb to Joe Montana Raiders beating he Chargers Lions stumping the Rams Titans scorig 34 pts in Dallas |

I don't know that it will be all over for them. But they sure will have a deep hole to climb out of. Let's go Vikes! |

I sure as hell hope so. Then again, back in '07 in Week 3 when the Giants were 0-2 and we took a big lead into halftime against them I was pretty hopeful they were done to and we all know how that turned out. In fact if you ask them they'll say that was the turning point of their season. |
Re: Nfl Regular season thread ( week 5 )
Kolb is tearing it up. Maybe getting rid of McNabb wasn't such a bad idea. Maybe FF was hesitant to name Vick the starter "for a reason." Sorry I just wanted to see what it was like to be an Eagles fan for a second.
You do know they are playing a 0-4 team right??????? |

At 1-4 they'd be cooked. They'd have to go 9-2 the rest of the way and seriously is there anyone alive who thinks that brain-trust won't lose them at 2 more games after that? Dallas is in trouble. They have to right this ship now or they can mail it in. |

Oh ok, I was hoping he wasn't going to get praise for beating a 0-4 defense |
Re: Nfl Regular season thread ( week 5 )
Did anyone catch this by the way? Talk about hitting a low point for the Cowpukes...which is great :)
From Matt Mosley: Right tackles shouldn't go to the ground during TD celebrations: The Cowboys tied the score at 27 on a touchdown pass to Jason Witten in the fourth quarter. The tight end flipped the ball to right tackle Marc Colombo to let him spike the ball. The two of them then did a leaping chest-bump, which led to Colombo landing on his backside. According to an NFL rule, a player cannot go to the ground during a touchdown celebration. And I guess poor coordination isn't a plausible defense. The 15-yard penalty meant that kicker David Buehler couldn't get a touchback, which contributed to Marc Mariani's 73-yard return. The Titans quickly scored to make it 34-27. |

Ordinarily I would never try to defend the Cowboys on anything, especially on something that contributed to their demise, but that's just another case of the NFL being overzealous about the rules at all times. If a guy falls to the ground during a touchdown celebration unintentionally it shouldn't be a penalty, it should only be a penalty if it's intentional. Same thing with Megatron's catch in week 1 against the Bears. I can see why the officials didn't rule it a catch because according to the definition in the rulebook, that wasn't a catch. But he cleanly caught it and had possession in the end zone, and it wasn't like the ball fell out of his hands, he just put it on the ground and got up. But as soon as possession was established in the end zone it should've been ruled a catch. I hope they amend that rule in the offseason because that was obviously a game changing moment and it was negated because everybody is too concerned with rules. I'm not trying to make it sound like rules aren't important and shouldn't be followed, but if they are going to be so proactive on enforcing a shallow rule like that, then they need to be proactive and call every broken rule on every play. You're gonna penalize a guy for unintentionally falling to the ground during a celebration but you won't penalize a tackle for wrapping his arm around a defenders neck to prevent him from sacking the qb? /rant over. |

^ way to play yesterday Giantone! You rolled Houston up like we were until we caved.. Texans D is by far the worst in football, they are pretenders IMO.. But still a good road win.

Re: Nfl Regular season thread ( week 5 )
Wade Phillips and Jason Garret are toast after this year, maybe before. The Cowboys have Pro Bowlers up and down that roster, but for some reason this team just doesn't play with any fire or sense of urgency.
I'd be very surprised if they make the playoffs this year. |
