This is terrible news. I'll miss seeing Wade looking confused on the sideline and miss his effect in the standings.

By permitting Vinny to humiliate him with the play calling duties change, a change many reasonably saw as a deliberate attempt to force Zorn to quit? Or were you joking?

I wasn't joking, he stayed hands off when he could have fired Zorn and Vinny if he wanted to. It was Vinny's circus and he let him run his shitshow right into the ground.

There is a big difference there! Skins handled it correctly. And gave JZ a chance to plan his next move. JJ handled this with no regard for Wade. Very Low Class Move. If I were a Cowboys fan, I would not feel any better today.

I wish our return visit was this week with the disarray that is the Dallas Cowboys. My fear is that they will be playing much better ball late in the year with guys playing to save their jobs.

Sorry. I'm just not buying that there was anything exemplary about how the Zorn situation was handled last year--by Cerrato or Snyder--or that Jerry Jones has done something that reflects any sort of insenstive shooting from the hip. After last night's game, the sum total of talking head commentary I heard was that Jones had reached a point where he had no choice.

He has no choice because he can't/won't acknowledge that he is a part (to whatever extent) of the problem. Last year Snyder realized that he was a part of the problem, he stepped back, and let the individuals play out their hands. No it wasn't pretty, but it allowed for clarity of action. Here is a quote from JJ last night:
"I think there are a lot of people here that certainly are going to suffer and suffer consequences," Jones said. "I'm talking within the team, players, coaches. They've got careers and this is certainly a setback. I know firsthand what it is to have high expectations. I think that unquestionably our expectations were thinking we were something we were not.

"I've got a lot of work to do, got a lot of decisions to make. And it's not just one, two, three or four. There are several decisions. I think everybody in this country would agree there's a lot wrong with this team that I've got to address, and certainly I'm the one to address them."
He's not stepping back, and this is not going to go well for them IMO.

I agree with you here and even Wade said that Dallas played like a poorly coached team. Not sure why anyone would feel sorry for any of these guys who get paid big money to get results. Don't get the results you still get paid but you do get fired.

As I understand it, Vinnie brought those guys in. Basically DS said, Vinnie, I have trusted you, do what you think is right. And when it failed, he fired him and brought BA in and let him go from there. If I am wrong about that, then I would appreciate being corrected.

I like the match up even if Romo comes back but Kitna couldn't find an open man and hole to fit it in with Elton John holding his hand.

I hope dallas goes on a tear...
I hope they win every game left, except the Redskins matchup of course.

Giving them an 8-8 record
no playoffs
mid round draft pick
keeping interim coach J.Jason Garrett as head coach

This would also mean they would have beat the NFC Giants,Eagles twice,Saints and Cardinals and help the redskins :)

This would be a good thing...

Wade needed to go thats for sure but its the timing thats wrong. Again if I were a Cowboys fan I would feel my intelligence was being insulted. Firing Wade now does nothing but make things more confusing. JJ is not going to scare these guys into playing football.

As far as Zorns situation, I think it was handled as well as it could have been. Everyone knew he would be gone the following season but at least DS showed the restraint of not unleashing his ultimate authority at a time where he had not yet secured other options.

JJ just starts firing people but has no other real plans other than flexing his muscle because thats all he can do to "satisfy" his fan base.

Again I'm glad that this is going on in Dallas and in no way feel sorry for them but I do have to give credit to DS over JJ for the way he handled a similar situation.

Just my opinion. I respect yours as well. Lets enjoy the Cowgirls Circus.

Hasn't seemed to stop them from stinking it up so far. At 1-7, I can't help but think things aren't going to get any better. The reality is guys tend to pack it in when things look bleak and with Wade getting the axe the message is clear, season over.

I wouldn't be shocked to see a spike in play for a week or two, but I can't see them turning it around in a major way because they will soon be even mathematically eliminated and then their players will be thinking about next season/cba issues, and not going full tilt for a coach that is most likely gone.

Yeah, he's unproven though on this level as a head coach. But still great/best prospect from those ranks.

Honestly he probably could pick a job on the next level, is the Cowgurls the best fit for him? I dont know, lotta pressure, a piece of sh*t owner, for a first time coach...probably could find a better fit.

I dont think you are going to see any big coaching signings until a new contract is signed with the players union and owners. Owners will want to minimize their payroll until this issue is resolved.

I would have hired him instead of Shanahan, but we got what we got.

I have changed my AVATAR to Snyder. I'm giving him this weeks atta boy, for going out and doing the right thing in hiring a GM who is not going to continue to down the same path even though it was not fruitfull. For hiring a half decent HC, who knows how to use the talent better then Zorn did.

On a side note does anyone else have the problem I have looking at the Avatars? I see about three virtical rows of players and the 4th row to the right is about 1/4th visibal. It's like the whole page is off to the right and the last row to the right I can't see. I also can only see that there is 3 pages and I'm betting there are 4 or more.

Re: Wade Phillips Fired; Jason Garrett Named Interim Head Coach

I wouldn't worry about Gruden or Cowher, both of them don't really seem interested in coaching next year and/or don't want to go work for Jerry.

Harbaugh, he is a sleeper and more likely to go there than the first two.

Holmgren, could go there, but he's an older version of Gruden with his play calling and system.

Gregg Williams could go there, as could Leslie Frazier and Perry Fewell as sleep assistant coaches.

Like I mentioned before Jeff Fisher has an option on his contract and Jerry is reportedly very high on him, but I think Jeff enjoys Tennessee more than he would being in Dallas.

I would really hate to see Fisher in Dallas. With the talent they have he would get them back on track. He's done well w/a lot less than what dallas has now.

SBXVII 11-09-2010 01:17 PM

Re: Wade Phillips Fired; Jason Garrett Named Interim Head Coach

Here's what I've been thinking, if JJ is smart he would find a really good HC that has played against Mike Shanahan while Shanahan was in Denver and beat him. I didn't think of Fischer cause I figured he would be tied up in Tenn. plus I just don't see him leaving unless he has a crappy year and the fans/owner does not want him there anymore. So I could only think of Cowher but as many have reported Cowher is eyeing the Panthers job.

I don't know I just figured if JJ was smart he would do what Snyder did and hire a GM and hire a HC, one that has battled against MS and have had close games. The only one that really scares me going to Dallas is Cowher. Only cause there were some pretty knock down drag out games between Denver and Pittsburg back when both were playing against each other.

If Phillips can lead this team to 2 divison titles and playoffs 2 out of his first 3 years, it is scary to think what Fisher would do with that talent.
