Re: This Just In---Andrew Luck To Stay At Stanford
The good news is we don't have to worry about the Redskins giving up this years first and next years second to move up to get him. Personally I like his decision mostly as an educator I think its wrong that these men get a free education and then get to leave the university early if they want. I wish the NCAA would come out and require anyone who does to repay back their scholarships to the University.

Re: This Just In---Andrew Luck To Stay At Stanford
Good for Luck. He'll still make the money down the road whether in football or due to his Stanford degree. He's a smart kid, he knows about the rookie salary cap, I'm sure he'll sign a short contract and then redo it. Trust me, he'll make some ca$h!!

This is so wrong. Football players give body and soul to the university which makes millions of dollars from their labor. So departing football players leaving early certainly don't owe their U. a dime, if anything, the NCAA should mandate some sort of compensation while they are active and in school. |

Harbaugh staying is good common sense. He is a god there, has a system/program in place that is very solid. I can see Jim leaving once he licks Oregon and gets into the Rose Bowl or Title game. |

My guess is they have a toss up between DaQuan Bowers (DE Clemson) and Nick Fairley (DT Auburn).
Locker is a late first round pick. Ironically Mallet might be a second round pick now, which is kind of sad considering the main cause of that drop was his performance late in the Sugar Bowl.
Mallet got screwed over by his receiving corp. He should have had another passing TD if his wideouts knew how to catch. Posey for OSU really went down in my future draft rankings also. Kid needs to get it together. Too many drops in the Sugar Bowl as well. Mallet was pissed after that game. |

Sure there is raw talent there, but Lockers passes in the bowl game weren't very crisp. That being said , he does seem to have a decent head on his shoulders, but he still throws INTS. |
Re: This Just In---Andrew Luck To Stay At Stanford
The Standford Architectural school and his scholarship are not going anywhere. If he is as good a student as people say, he can finish up his degree during the NFL off season. Easy.
The window for a big guaranteed rookie contract is small. The life span of a football player is also small. You can only take so many hits and so many snaps. Ask a player like Herschel Walker who needlessly left his most productive years and physical ability in Georgia. Where nobody really notices or cares. By the time he got to the NFL his body was already on it's down side. $50 million guaranteed goes a long way, even if he fails as a player. He could give up his scholarship and pay for the tuition himself if he wanted to, to finish his degree.
Maybe the guy actually is more than one dimensional and wants to earn his degree ASAP. Maybe he loves it at Stanford enough to want to stay there for his full term there. Also, he might have thought about the lockout possibility. Either way it is his decision to make. He is going to make big money anyway, maybe he just isn't so greedy. |
Re: This Just In---Andrew Luck To Stay At Stanford
People hated on LeBron for leaving Cleveland. They hate on Luck for staying. Only in America
|
Re: This Just In---Andrew Luck To Stay At Stanford
Everyone who says Luck is stupid for not taking the guaranteed money is the exact reason why this sport pays out the ass for unproven talent at the NFL level. I am so happy they are putting in a rookie cap. The amount of money these guys make makes me sick. I wish I could make a tenth of what they make.

Re: This Just In---Andrew Luck To Stay At Stanford
Andrew Luck is making the right decision. I've been to Charlotte plenty, and it is no Northern California.
|
Re: This Just In---Andrew Luck To Stay At Stanford
Only reason I am upset is that this might have pushed more talent down to us. Who knows though? If we blow more chunks next year than we did this year, we might be in a better position to pick him up and for a lower price.

Your right it's not northern California, its North Carolina. |
Re: This Just In---Andrew Luck To Stay At Stanford
Im glad he is staying cause we were not going to get him any and I did not want us to trade up for him either. I would rather pick a qb late in the 1st round if we could trade back for more picks. If not maybe take a qb in the 2nd if he was worthy of the pick. I say we go with Rex and Beck or try to work it out with McNabb but we have so many holes to fill other than QB.

Re: This Just In---Andrew Luck To Stay At Stanford
If I were the Redskins, I'd play every young guy I could, and try and lose every single game next year.

Really? It is better to wait a year and be drafted by, say, Buffalo or Cincinnati, rather than going to Carolina? Don't say that Carolina is a struggling club. Luck is destined to be drafted high by some struggling club next year. Personally, I'd rather play in Charlotte than in Buffalo. |

That is what he is supposed to be there for, unlike these gangsta types that major in Phys Ed just to make it look like they belong. IF the NCAA really wanted to maintain academic excellence they should cut out the football scholarships and let the thugs play in a NFL farm system type league. |

Re: This Just In---Andrew Luck To Stay At Stanford

Re: This Just In---Andrew Luck To Stay At Stanford
On another site someone mentioned that Mike and Mike had talked about a team drafting Luck anyway and being able to hold the rights to him even though he doesn't come out this year. It was bantered about that there might not be a NFL rule on doing that but others felt that either
A- the team who drafted him would lose his right next draft and he would be placed right back in for next yrs draft. or B- Teams can't draft a player who has not declared because the NFL does not follow the NBA rules and basically the team would be throwing away a draft pick. So my question to you all is: Could Luck wait till after the draft then declare himself for the supplimental draft? and if he can would it change anything in regards to what teams can go after him? I'm thinking he probably doesn't want to play for the Panthers knowing he owner is cheap or something and maybe worked out a deal with Harbaugh that he would declare after the draft. Why? Maybe it would be too much for the 49ers to give up to trade with the Panthers to go after him but in the supplimental draft the 49ers could offer whatever which would hurt them till the following draft anyway. In other words the 49ers could offer a 1st round pick. Could this be a possibility? or would the Panthers still get first dibbs on him since they did so bad? |
Re: This Just In---Andrew Luck To Stay At Stanford
Luck already said that staying in school had nothing to do with being drafted by the panthers.

I really hope we don't have to hear this junk all season. NFL teams don't tank seasons. It's just absurd.

I absolutely agree. But if we're going to miss the playoffs (which I'd say is a strong possibility), I'd rather it be with a 2-14 or 3-13 record and the #1 overall pick to land Luck than 6-10 or 7-9 and end up in the 12-15 range. I'm not saying I want us to mail it in, nor do I think we or any other team would. But no playoffs is no playoffs. I'd prefer the #1 pick to be our consolation prize. |

Re: This Just In---Andrew Luck To Stay At Stanford
Players will not tank because they want either a roster spot, a payday, or both.
Coaches won't tank because their jobs are on the freaking line. Only GMs can deliberately weaken their team to the point of suckage, and even then, tanking is INCREDIBLY DIFFICULT because the players and coaches will always want to win. |
Re: This Just In---Andrew Luck To Stay At Stanford
IF we're going to talk about the presumed 2012 draft, let's not talk about tanking, let's talk about what Danny & Bruce have up their sleeve to land one of the QBs. It's way too early to talk about that, but come draft time next year I'm sure they will be on the phones looking into everything. I have confidence in Bruce Allen that he could pull off a crazy deal to move up if anybody can.

The "Suck to get Luck" strategy is for moonbats and fruitcakes.
Probably the same people that think Sept. 11 was an inside job. |

THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT I'VE BEEN SAYING ON THIS SITE. Skin fans think that when I say tank the season they think I mean lose like the Lions of '08. NO! I'm saying we're not a playoff caliber team, so why finish 6-10 with a losing record and not getting a good player than a losing record with a great player. This guy knows what I'm talking about! |
