SS, fair enough. I wouldn't suggest to get our hopes up (agree with your barometer of success) just enjoy the wins while they come!

Re: Washington Capitals 2011-2012 Ongoing Thread
Beats talking about how Beck is the next coming and how the financial crisis in Europe comes back to Kyle's playcalling.
|
Anybody watching the caps putting up 3 on the wings so far tonight? Greenie with 2 goals and Johannsen with the other one. And right as I type this the wings get a 5 on 3 for 30 seconds. Either way they've played pretty good so far tonight.
|
5-1, and I believe they're getting outshot almost 2:1. Still stand by what I said earlier, but this is impressive

Re: Washington Capitals 2011-2012 Ongoing Thread
I think outside of a Cup appearance the season is a disappointment.

They're certainly off to a hot start, that's for sure. And I agree, they don't have many more excuses left. 7-1 tonight against the Red Wings though, so they're certainly off to a hot start. We'll see what happens but they've been playing inspired after that goal scoring fest to open the season against Carolina. |

Well it's official now. Dale Hunter in for Bruce Boudreau.
Not sure how I feel about Hunter |

I'm not sure how I feel about him either but I'm alright with Brucey B. leaving. This team needed a change.

We all think hiring him is probably a huge risk. |

I don't like that he doesn't have NHL coaching experience, but I think he'll breath of fresh air in the locker room. I hope so anyway. Regardless, it's become painfully obvious that Gabby can't get the boys to play hard for him anymore. They go out there and look like they don't give a damn. Gotta nip that in the bud asap. |

Too much talent on that team over the last few years to be at this point. It indeed is time for some fresh air. The Hunter hire seems like a "We may be throwing the season away so let's try to bring in someone that everyone can get behind so at least we'll come out of this as best we can." |

The Ducks have fired Randy Carlyle and hired Gabby to be their new head coach. That didn't take long.

Re: Washington Capitals 2011-2012 Ongoing Thread
Another disappointing performance by the Caps yesterday. They're skating backwards...or some such hockey analogy to indicate this team is slipping. Players running the place, new coach with no NHL coaching experience.

Yeah, it's very disappointing. They are in a very deep slump right now, and even a new coach isn't helping. |
Re: Washington Capitals 2011-2012 Ongoing Thread
Went to tonight's Caps-Pens game at the phone booth, and I just felt like reiterating that it is very annoying when fans shout "OH" and "RED" during "rocket's red glare" in the performance of the National Anthem. And they had a very nice sergeant singing it and I felt like it was pretty insulting to him and other service members to be doing that disrespectful bs. For once a guy sings the National Anthem without putting his own little "unique" twist on it and fans can't even shut up? Dumb.
With all that said, Caps played an ok game tonight. The 2nd period wasn't that good, but they got through it without giving up a goal, which is always a positive when the final score is 1-0. Vokoun was very solid in net tonight. Now if we could fix our road woes. |
Re: Washington Capitals 2011-2012 Ongoing Thread
This team is an embarrassment. Never seen a team with such little heart. The 09 Redskins and Wizards try harder.

Re: Washington Capitals 2011-2012 Ongoing Thread
This is why nobody takes Capitals fans or Capitals hockey seriously, just sayin'.
I don't care if they're losing because John Carlson, Mathieu Perreault, and Braden Holtby are still sexy
|

No self respecting male hockey fan would ever say such blasphemy. Clearly that was some girl who could care less how the Caps do. And as long as the Caps are the only winning team in town, of course they'll have fans like that. Every winning team does. |
Re: Washington Capitals 2011-2012 Ongoing Thread
I just wish Leonsis would stick to trying to have a winner or now winners (considering he owns the Wizards) rather than selling tickets. He won't have either to worry about if he continues to raise ticket prices.

Decent win for the Caps tonight. Now if they could just win on the road.
|
Sucks out here we get 0 hockey
|
Re: Washington Capitals 2011-2012 Ongoing Thread
It'll be interesting to see what happens tonight. Personally the team got lucky with a bad Montreal team. You don't give a team that many powerplays to come away with 0 goals against (on PP that is).
McPhee better pull something out of his ass, otherwise Leonsis needs to cut ties. Though I think we all know he'd make some excuse up for him, "this wasn't the team we put together, injuries happened," maybe he'll even blame the refs as he's done quite a few times? |
Re: Washington Capitals 2011-2012 Ongoing Thread
oh the caps, just like every team in washington they are losing in grand fashion and just barely staying in it. taking a must win game to a shootout because boston scored two goals in the last 4 minutes isn't good hockey. but atleast we got to see another matt hendricks shake and bake. he put thomas on his ass, so awesome.
[YT][ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j5Dx8jBt85U]Matt "The Paralyzer" Hendricks 1, T. Thomas 0 (shootout) - YouTube[/ame][/YT] |
Re: Washington Capitals 2011-2012 Ongoing Thread
Yeah I was watching the game last night, and Hendricks made Tim Thomas look like a f'n rookie on that SO goal. He absolutely fakes the shit out of goalies with that move he does.
The Caps are still inconsistent as ever, so I have no clue if they'll be able to grab that 8 seed from Buffalo. We'll see I guess. |

Just got a text saying Nicky will be back in the lineup tonight. I'm glad to have him back, although I'm sure it will take him some time to get used to his normal self.

sweet. i was hoping we would have locked up the playoff spot by now and he would be back just in time for the playoffs. it's gonna be nice to have him back, this will be there first time him and green have been in the lineup together in forever it seems |
Re: Washington Capitals 2011-2012 Ongoing Thread
Hell. YEAH!
|
Re: Washington Capitals 2011-2012 Ongoing Thread
Very nice to see them lock up their 5th consecutive playoff spot tonight, but the previous 4 haven't worked out so well so I don't know what to anticipate. And this team clearly isn't as good as in years past, I can't remember a recent Caps team that has blown as many leads as this team has. I started getting concerned when Florida came back to bring the score to 3-2, especially with the way they stayed in our zone in the 3rd period. The caps didn't allow a lot of shots though, so there's that at least, and we got a clutch goal from Semin to secure it at the end. Doesn't matter if they win the division or not though, all you need is a ticket to the big dance.

I won't say thank god for them, but I will give you kudos for coming back on the Sabres last night so we could clinch. |
Re: Washington Capitals 2011-2012 Ongoing Thread
It has to start somewhere It has to start sometime. What better place than here, what better time than now?
It's that time again. The rare event in which we get to watch hometown playoffs. It's hockey and playoff seeding means very little, so I like our odds. We owned Boston in Boston as well. I like our odds this series, lets see if Dale Hunter's strategy can translate. |
Re: Washington Capitals 2011-2012 Ongoing Thread
Yeah we'll see. Most of my friends think we're walking into a buzzsaw, but anything can happen. I will say though that the Caps' regular season success against the Bruins doesn't mean much now though.

Re: Washington Capitals 2011-2012 Ongoing Thread
Biggest problem here is Holtby in goal. Apparently he has some swagger- so lets see if that can translate into success. I'm not arrogant going into this series, but I am cautiously optimistic.

I was actually surprised by this STAT but BOS is averaging 3.17 goals per game this season; 3rd best behind PHI & PIT. Waht sucks for WAS is that there is really no one big scorer on BOS the puck really gets spread around. I think a lot depends on the rust on Backstrom skates as to how this series will be determined. I say BOS in six and if BOS loses the series I will be behind WAS moving forward. |
