Clearly, they were unhappy with the production from the spot last year. But, I'm with GTripp - how many you keeping and who the hell are you cutting. Are they hoping to stash a couple of the rookies on the PS?

I count 10 "roster worthy" WR's before signing Edwards. Seems to me, Stallworth, Gaffney, Kelly and Banks are not likely to make it out of the pre-season.

Moss
Stallworth (FA)
Gaffney (FA)
M. Kelly
A. Anderson
Banks (2)
Austin (2)
Hankerson (R)
Paul (R)
Robinson (R)
And they could be signing Braylon Edwards as soon as the Sidney Rice domino falls.

Was Gaffney in Denver with Shanahan? Don't know what to make of this as I really liked Jarmon, and thought he had good potential.

How can you not have brought in at least one center? I just don't get it.

Re: Redskins Trade Jeremy Jarmon
I get the feeling at least a couple of WR will be cut this weekend, just my feeling. Banks and Kelly probably should be the most concerned, but perhaps even Robinson and Paul.

I realize there isn't much sympathy for NFL players but this to me is representative of the realities of playing in the league. Jarmon has done everything asked of him-lose weight to play LB, gain weight to play on the line, lose weight again, learn this position, learn that position, all while rehabbing from a major injury...only to be sent packing just weeks away from the start of the season. And if he had kids in school, the start of the school year.
I wish Jarmon well

I like the Donte move, I don't understand this one
Agreed, one of the reasons I liked the guy. I hope he catches on. He never seemed to be a fit here and may benefit from playing a straight up 4-3 DRE position.

Remember that trade with the Ravens last year when we traded them a guy we were going to cut? I'd say it worked out pretty well.

Jarmon truly had no place here, just wish we had gotten a bit more in return for him. But Gaffney for a supplemental pick with no place on our team...that's not so bad a trade really.

I'm not even sure how safe Armstrong is right now
i hope youre being sarcastic. all the moves we've made are very vinny-esque to me. and Jarmon >> Gaffney. I hope it wasnt a straightup trade but we get some sort of conditional pick out of it. otherwise, we got majorly screwed.
2010 - 65 receptions/875 yds/2 TDs (DEN)
2009 - 54/732/2 (DEN)
2008 - 38/468/2 (NE)
2007 - 36/449/5 (NE)

Good numbers for a #3 WR.

Jarmon doesn't seem to fit the 3-4 well. Denver is moving to a 4-3 this year...which is why they took him.

We've gone this far into this crazy week and we've gained players and draft picks (for MCNabb) and haven't lost any picks and haven't handed out any Archuletta contracts either. I'd say we're doing pretty good.

Sure. Jarmon not a 3-4 DL. Gaffney an upgrade at WR. RT @JECKHART83 @espn_nfceast do you think the trade with the broncos is a good move

And that WRs have to learn ALL wr routes under kyle. Season starts in about a month.

People need to remember that we are coming out of a lockout. Veteran wrs will be needed in the early goings.

Redskins have 12 WR's on the roster (not counting Roydell Williams, who is still under contract). That's about right in a 90-man camp.

That really is the key. These young guys didn't get to go through OTAs and were robbed out of the experience. They'll have to step up big time to beat out the vets on the learning curve.

Agreed. Maybe we loved him but the Shanny's felt they could do better. After all, the bar for being a stand-out in last year's offense was not set very high.

why is everyone in such an uproar over WR's .. yeah we drafted some "potential" talent .. how has that worked out for us over the last decade ? Are you kidding me. Gaffney is not Joey Galloway, he played nice last year and i'm sorry but was Jarmon "lighting" it up ? Wouldn't you rather have a crop of WR's that you can actually CUT because you have talent instead of picking up arena league guys before week 1. No offense to AA.

Moss
AA
Hankerson
Gaffney
Stallworth or Kelly is cut
Banks

Austin - PS

What's the problem here ?

If that's not a problem to you, then there is no rebuilding occurring. The future is indeed now. Beck to the future.

Paul and Robinson are PS or throw away DP's?? The field is becoming much too crowded for reps. No way all these guys can get a good look.

Unfortunately, the lockout may have caused this. I was hoping Paul would make the team, but I had not thought of the lack of time they've been able to put in. The season starts in 6 weeks. They arrived at Redskins Park YESTERDAY.

Vets may be the way to go because of the lockout, but it's a shame we can't retain these young WRs with potential. Maybe we'll keep 2 on the PS and promote them with cuts/injuries later in the season when they get caught up.

this move is surprising. gaffney is decent, more of a possession receiver i think, but jarmon didnt fit in the 3-4.

Re: Redskins Trade Jeremy Jarmon

Rookies are gonna struggle, big time, at least early on in the season. Not sure we can expect much from the likes of Hankerson or anyone else. And even the 2nd year guys lost valuable development time this offseason. I think we're looking for guys who can play now. And if that means cutting some picks or putting them on the PS so be it.

I don't think it is a bad trade. They simply traded two "meh" players amongst themselves.

Now what is interesting is that the Skins made a trade like this during one of the busiest weeks in NFL history. Why do this trade now? Shouldn't we being using our resources on bigger fish this week? Or this all to step up something bigger?
