Complete garbage on the timing of this though. I wonder if the FO knew thought this could happen before making the trade for RG3?

they should just take the 36 mil. this year and have a clean slate for 2013.

Why the **** would the league tell us this now on the eve of FA? It gives us zero time to really get money and contracts in order for tomorrow! ****ing ridiculous!

well yeah thats what I meant in an ironic way, but that is good news cowpricks not being to get shit tomorrow.

You know ole Jerah and Danny Boy right now are on the phone together pissed off, yapping it up like two school gurls. They probably thought they were real slick couple years ago when they were taking advantage of the system.

Re: NFL taking away Redskins cap space

So much for giving RG3 a new weapon, you think there's a chance they split up the penalty where most of it will be next year hoping that the number will be reduced if we appeal, that way we can still make some big FA moves

Re: NFL taking away Redskins cap space

So (and this is a hypothical because I saw this and am not positive if this is why we got to 36 million)... if the reason this is happening is because we paid bonuses to Haynesworth (21 million) and Hall (15 million) in one lump sum?

So they're just assuming they would have gotten bonuses of $0 that year? Like this whole thing is fishy, it stinks, and I just don't like it.

You know what, this could be a blessing in disguise for us.

This could be the sign that we should just go all for the draft and undrafted FA's this year.

Thats a very good point, if true. Haynesworth would probably have gotten atleast 10 million that year, hall, maybe around 5. I definetely think that, if we're penalized, it should be based on how much the NFL thinks we should have paid out in later years as opposed to just the uncapped year.

TheMalcolmConnection 03-12-2012 04:06 PM

Re: NFL taking away Redskins cap space

This is total bullshit. What a subjective application of this. Sure, we used the uncapped year to our total advantage. If this wasn't mentioned in the talks, then the NFL has no right.

If true, I'm pretty shocked. I mean a) the NFL doesn't generally give warnings on this kind of stuff, they just disapprove the contract and b) Allen and Schaffer are among the league bests at this and aren't careless

Re: NFL taking away Redskins cap space

If they can split it any way they want between this year and next, can't they defer 100% to next year and fight it in court or appeal? Maybe they can get the amount lowered.

Re: NFL taking away Redskins cap space

From what I understand the owners had an agreement that they wouldn't do this and then the redskins and cowboys did it anyway. Maybe I read the article wrong though, but this is why the owners got mad and told on them and godell has a need to show off how manly and in control he is... so this is what happened, and appeal sounds nice but probably wont work, in all of sports appeals rarely works, baseball had their first successful one so this is something we will probably have to live with.

Re: NFL taking away Redskins cap space

Before people start calling for the Redskins to cut every, READ THIS:

* NFL cap bullsh*t punishment is $36 million, which can be spread in 2012 and 2013 (I assume $18 mil each year)
* Redskins cap space according to PFT $31 million

* $31 mil of cap space - $18 mil of punishment = $13 mil of space

I would say more cuts would come if the Redskins would want to absorb more of the $36 mil cap punishment.

Yeah, it's a blessing in disguise for Dan Snyder. He saves 36 million dollars in salary in a period of 2 years.

So this is the case on how we got to that... if I'm the Redskins, I'm at least contesting that this should be shaved by a minimum of 10 million dollars. They would have gotten some type of a bonus that year... this is such a joke.

This. Not only that but the cap will most definitely be higher next year, so basically you do can do what deals need to be done, rollover the extra to next year, and defer most or all to next year. As long as our deals are responsible ones this year, I think BA can manage this without a big bump.

No real surprise in terms of poor mgmt. I do not understand where the "blind" faith in this FO comes from? Especially when you consider what we spent in FA last year and to what end? Still don't have a legit NT and Jenkins (if healthy) should make Bowen/Carriker expendable.

Sucks but it appears to be workable, especially with our cap team.

I'm guessing we'll hear about a lot of restructuring.

I'd sue if I were Snyder and Jones. This is completely baseless and really the agreement not to load is collusion. I know suing would be pretty extreme and not make them very popular but this is blatantly unfair.

That's probably why they made the trade, they couldn't afford a free agent second tier qb and all of the rookie contracts too. The trade and subsequent pick at least "solidifies" one important position through out this setback.

The league does but the owners don't so what I think happend behind closed doors is the owners found out and told godell to do something about it. Plus a lot of organizations don't really like the skins or the cowboys because of our net worth and how valuable we are to the nfl.
