Or the Gretzky and Lemeiux if you will :D Major points for the parallel though. |
Re: Griffin shows his smarts
Yet another way to look at it...
Luck is basically Cam Newton except he's smaller, slower, lacks the arm strength, doesn't have as clean of a throwing motion/release, oh and didn't win the big game to keep his team undefeated and didn't lead his team to a national championship. Luck is a very good athlete in his own right, but Cam is a specimen like I've never seen. The kid threw a jump pass for 40+ yards in the air on the money, he's thrown off his back foot for 50 yard bombs. Cam's arm talent is on a whole other level then Luck.
Their measurables are pretty close, I'd give the edge to Cam for his arm strength, and the edge to Luck for his decision making and overall grasp of a pro-style offense. |
Re: Griffin shows his smarts
Maybe Cam wasn't the best comparison. Still it doesn't change the fact, Luck has been deemed by multiple talent evaluators to be the best QB prospect since John Elway.
Also I don't know why you would hold not winning a national championship against him considering how crooked the BCS system is. I mean consider that Vince Young, Tim Tebow, and Matt Leinart also won it.
Well Cam Newton had a better rookie year then Elway's rookie year. Cam threw for 4,0510 yards and scored an amazing 35 TD's in his rookie year and rushed 706 yards averaging 5.6 yards a carry. Those are insane rookie numbers, better then Elway's. I guess that would make Cam Newton a better pro prospect then Elway.?.? Kidding. |

I was responding to your comparison between Luck and Cam. The rest of your post has nothing to do with me, I'm not making the points you address. |

We're talking pre-draft evaluations. How scouts view them coming into the draft. Once they take the field they're no longer draft prospects. |

Assessing the differences of the top QB prospects basically amounts to splitting hairs. But for me its Cam size coupled with his athleticism that makes him rare and set him apart: elite arm strength, elite athleticism, elite size. I agree that Luck is by far more 'pro-ready' but being 'pro-ready' is a coachable trait and the advantage of pro-readiness may not last past training camp. I don't even know what this discussion is about anymore. *shrugs* |

And thankfully for the Panthers their talent evaluators were right. I think Cam proved many of the pre-draft evaluations wrong. |

Funny that we've gotten to the point where we're trying to talk up Luck of all guys. Even if he's a notch below Cam, he's going to be a heck of a player. |

I recall Gil Brandt, Mayock and Howie Long off the top of my head were advocates of Newton. One of my favorite Luck traits are his pocket presence which allows him to seamlessly transitions from a broken play into a playmaker and his consistency in the midst of constant media whirlwind. |

Even if he's a notch below Cam, he's going to be a heck of a player.
I don't know when it got to the point where people interpreted the increased coverage and attention on RG3 as him being a better prospect as Luck. Kiper and McShay have even said of all the scouts they've talked to in NFL front offices only one has leaned towards saying they would take Griffin over Luck. I imagine that includes scouts from our front office. I also would guess that if Griffin was viewed in the same light as Luck St. Louis would have traded us Bradford instead of the second overall pick. I will say this though, it's unprecedented to have two QB prospects that are this good in the same draft. Just absolutely insane. |
Re: Griffin shows his smarts
I have to admit I haven't watched much of either Griffin or Luck throughout their college careers, but I do think people often undervalue Griffin mentally, as far as the whole 'pro ready' thing.
I would also argue that Griffin seems a lot more confident than luck, more ready to be the face of a franchise. |
Re: Griffin shows his smarts
One thing that I really hope this coaching stafff does is put in some spread stuff for Griffin. And I hope they have him in Shotgun most of the time. That's what he's good at so adjust the offense to him. I'm very skeptical about that actually happening. We shall see....
|
Right now I'd consider taking cam Newton over any QB in the NFL not named Brady, brees or arod.. as for Griff? I'm so excited for draft day I'll scream out like it's the sb

I actually think he'd be better off under center in an offense thats generally 55% run 45% pass. Using him off the bootleg is not only going to take advantage of his mobility but as I've been stressing for a while now, open up cut-back lanes for the backs as backside contain is going to be delayed figuring out if we're handing off or running a bootleg. Either way it's hard to get a running game going in the NFL off the shotgun. I mean I'm not opposed to using it but I'm picturing an offense with a lot of movement and I think our under center formations do a better job of that. |

Haha I'm exactly the same. I just can't wait for him to officially be on our roster! |

I'm 95% sold on Newton. Theres just that little 5% of me that wonders about a potential sophmore slump. |

Luckily I was at this game, unfortunately my Sooners felt the wrath to RGIII
Thank God someone made those videos. I was intending to do some of those games but they were just sitting around taking up space on my hard drive. Though to be fair someone still has to post the Ok State game. I think part of the reason it hasn't been posted besides the fact that RGIII had an average game in a beat down is that the quality of the broadcast floating around on the net right now are terrible (like the field looks grey terrible). Also I'm now convinced that Matt Barkley is a taller version of Kellen Moore with just a little more arm strength. [YT]yn8hqpPL_SA[/YT] |

Re: Griffin shows his smarts
What do you all want RG3 to do at his pro day? Meaning do you want him to look ridiculously good to the point where Indy starts saying "We want you instead of Andrew."
Or do you want him to not even workout at his proday? Do you think it'll just be the skins and colts looking at RG3? |

(I hope so too because I have my heart set on rg3) But the fact that RG3 and Luck are both expected to work out shows some good team character from guys who are going #2, #1 overall. |

Re: Griffin shows his smarts
Also keep in mind the media has been covering Luck on a national level for as many as 3 years now. I think the first time I saw him projected to go number 1 was in April 2010 after the draft.
Todd McShay's first look at the 2011 NFL Draft - ESPN They've pretty much run out of things to say about the guy. Brady and Eli-esque. |
Re: Griffin shows his smarts
While the op of Griffin remembering the play didn't impress me too much (Seemed pretty simple imo), all the interviews defiantly have.
In particular him apparently describing aspects of the redskins offense: RT's 5 (+1): Special RG3 edition Point number 4.^ |
