Re: The "we should have takens"
Quite a few experts thought drafting LeRibeus was a reach. I agree, he probably would've been available later. However, I won't rush to say he's not value at that pick. The OLs rated higher than LeRibeus fell because other teams continued to pass on them as well.
The team likely didn't want to take Cousins (or any QB) in the fourth. One could speculate that Russell Wilson being drafted in the third round effected this. Values & Reaches, 2012 NFL Draft - DraftCountdown.com |
By October? I'd pencil them all in right now for week 1.
Matty: Tannehill is a reach to start in Game 1 in Miami. My guess is that he sees the field early on but not in Game 1. Weedon will have to demonstrate that his arm strength and his maturity are sufficient to overcome the fact that Colt McCoy knows the offense and the personnel in Cleveland better than Weedon does to start in Game 1. Maybe he does that; maybe not. But he too will see the field pretty quickly... |
Re: The "we should have takens"
I'd be surprised if McCoy is back in Cleveland. Even if he is the writing is on the wall for him. They tried like heck all offseason to replace him. Weeden even as a rookie is an upgrade, and with his age issue he needs to play sooner rather than later.
Tannehill is the one guy out of that bunch that may not play right away, but he knows that offense and there will be pressure to play him right away if only to sell the message of hope to a fanbase that's mostly tuned out. |
Re: The "we should have takens"
If you drafted a 28 year old QB in the first round, you draft him to start day 1. He doesnt have time to sit and learn. Weeden is gonna surprise in Cleveland

Re: The "we should have takens"
I should have taken route 29 instead of I-95 this morning.

First of all I think Tannehill is a much better QB then his perception. People view him as the default 3rd QB because of circumstance and not because of skillset. But, Tannehill's physical skillset rivals Luck and Griffin he simply lacks playing experience but he is entering into the best circumstances possible. The Dolphins scheme is almost identical to his scheme at Texas A&M from concepts to verbiage. I think Tannehill's rookie year production will rival Griffin and Luck...well if Miami had some WRs.(to that end the Fins should be all over Gaffney and Jacoby Jones) I think Weeden will play regardless of how McCoy plays. There will be too much egg on their face if they used a 1st round pick on a 28 year old QB that can't beat out the QB you want him to replace. |
