Re: Gameplan vs Bills:Vanilla or Butter Pecan?
5-11 teams with a rookie QB, new WRs, and a pair of new safeties don't have much choice in trying and doing as much as possible before the season opener. I will be attending the game in New Orleans and I'm hoping we don't lay an egg and are more competitive than the Huskies will be vs LSU.

Re: Gameplan vs Bills:Vanilla or Butter Pecan?
Does anyone know if the game will be televised locally on comcast sports net?
|
Re: Gameplan vs Bills:Vanilla or Butter Pecan?
I'll take Vanilla Pecan. ;) I expect Vanilla but with a slight twist...... perhaps the team adding some plays just to see if they can be exicuted fairly well or if they have to scrap them.

Re: Gameplan vs Bills:Vanilla or Butter Pecan?
Personally I like Ben and Jerry's Red Velvet. Skins better bring out some of that mmm, mmm, good.

Good question. Usually they are on the local basic channels, not csn. I think, in the DC area they are usually on the GW or whatever (formally WB?). |

Isnt Shanahans favorite play calling apple pie? I thought apple pie was always the answer here

I believe it's CSN, we've usually done our preseason games on there in the past. |
Re: Gameplan vs Bills:Vanilla or Butter Pecan?
@richtandler tweeted that it's on CSN yesterday.
|
Re: Gameplan vs Bills:Vanilla or Butter Pecan?
I think it will be our new vanilla, which some in previous years might have been called butter pecan.
|
Re: Gameplan vs Bills:Vanilla or Butter Pecan?
This sounds a little bit like butter pecan, but only because we were out of vanilla

Re: Gameplan vs Bills:Vanilla or Butter Pecan?
Good article on Griffin's progress:
Even RG3 subjected to a learning curve - Washington Times Here is a speculative thought on my part, maybe wishful thinking as much as anything. The two reports I have been hearing are that Griffin is holding the ball too long, and that the Skins are running a lot of designed run plays. Both of which don't thrill me. But, they also say Griffin is purposely holding on so he can go through his progressions. Now for my masterful observation: Since they don't want Griffin running during a pass play, they are giving him extra designed runs to help him get the feel of scrambling against NFL defenders. BRILLIANT! |
Re: Gameplan vs Bills:Vanilla or Butter Pecan?
Bruce Allen was on moving the chains last night, when asked about all the designed runs and stuff he basically said they are experimenting with a lot of different things right now, he said that's what camp is for. Once the season starts that's when the experimenting ends.

I don't live in the DC area, so I will be forced to catch the NFL Network replay of the Skins/Bills which comes on at 3pm central on Friday afternoon. I do know that the NFL Network is doing some "live look-ins" on Thursday night, so maybe I'll be able to catch some live RG3 before Friday afternoon. I'll be leaving work early this Friday for the replay, that is for sure. |
Re: Gameplan vs Bills:Vanilla or Butter Pecan?
Personally, I would err towards not showing any of the new stuff that involves Griffin running.
(a) The surprise factor would be diminishesd and (b) right now the OL is kinda a mixed bad right now and some of the zone-read stuff is dependent upon good protection; don't want to see Griff take any unnecessary hits. But still use the RB elements of the new concepts. For example they could calls some designed RB runs from the pistol and shotgun. The still have to rep the concepts against a live defense. Passing game/offense: o I want to see Griff execute the offense from under center. looking to see good clean footwork with the ball out on time to the correct receiver I would like to see a couple of 5 step drop passes on rhythm and hit a couple/few of the litmus test arm strength throws: skinny post/bang 8, deep dig, deep comeback Basically I want to see him Griff grip it and rip with confidence and velocity I want to see the offense move at a good tempo and have a clean game (penalities, delay of game, uneccesary time outs etc.) |
Re: Gameplan vs Bills:Vanilla or Butter Pecan?
I'm excited for our game against the bills, because we get to see Trent Williams on Mario Williams and Mark Andersons speed rush around the edge burning all our RT's. It'll be a great test for RG3 and to see how well he is at an nfl game of escaping from the pocket/getting away from the the pass rushers.

Arguing with this dude on twitter ( he might be here) saying RG3 should be playing during pre-season. I'm like what the f*ck!? He reasoning is if he's only going to play a half, he shouldn't be playing at all.
Anyway of you buy that? I don't |

I don't care how good he is going to be, if he can't play in preseason, he's not going to be ready for regular season. I can see not playing RGIII in preseason, years down the road after he has won a couple Super Bowls and maybe resting his body, but he's got just as much to prove (if not more) as the rest of the rookie class. |

Re: Gameplan vs Bills:Vanilla or Butter Pecan?
Good thing we don't like in Western NY, because this preaseason game is going to be blacked out there.
Also side note AA thinks its cool to tear up a '0' and turn it into an upsidedown '?' on his injury practice jersey. |

Maybe youre talking to The Goat?
http://www.thewarpath.net/redskins-locker-room/48655-gameplan-vs-bills-vanilla-butter-pecan.html#post928812 Id personally like to see RGIII in as long as possible. For the first pre-season game i would even consider the entire game. But back to the topic: Im pretty big on ice cream and milk shakes. I currently have either 4 or 5 cartons in my freezer (will post pic if i have to). I like to keep both French Vanilla and Vanilla Bean in stock at all times. I dont really care for regular, creamy or extra vanilla. Although i do like to somtimes add vanilla extract to my milkshakes. And while vanilla is my faviort flavor its anything but a vanilla vanilla, as i like to put tons of shit on it. Ranbow sprinkles, jimmies, red sugar spinkles, hot fudge, magic shell and crumbled up cookies. |
Re: Gameplan vs Bills:Vanilla or Butter Pecan?
I've been game planning. I have my garage frig set right at the point of freezing and the beers when pulled Ice up some on the out side. I have the grill ready to go and a pack of wings. I'm also going Friday to Nags Head so I don't have to worry about going to work in the morning.

Admittedly, it's unconventional, but a risk/reward debate could come down on the side of caution. Devil's advocate: if the oline is abysmal Thursday night, missing regular assignments, AND RGIII is injured because of those missed assignments, it could cost us reg season games. Maybe you focus on smoothing out the oline and have Griffen play more in games 2 and 3? |
Re: Gameplan vs Bills:Vanilla or Butter Pecan?
Vanilla. Let's not kid ourselves that we were good last season at 5-11. And with the new guys we really need to work on the basics.
Who cares about "winning" a preseason game anyways? |

Re: Gameplan vs Bills:Vanilla or Butter Pecan?
The Gameplan is get reps, avoid injuries (probably in the opposite order).
I was at that 2004 Broncos preseason game when Jansen went down. I was also at the 2010 Ravens preseason game where McNabb (and a number of others) got nicked up. And of course, I was at the 2011 Eagles regular season game (no explanation needed). I'm not a season ticket holder either (I live out of town). Should I just not go to the Colts game this year? |

Ive always thought with rookie QBs and newly aquired young QBs should be given them as much time as possible in the preseason, espicially early on. Injuries happen to QBs and to the Oline, thats just the way it is. And if the oline is abysmal right now it will probably be just as bad or worse during certain parts of the season. But since the preseason dosnt mean anything we could go "extra vanilla" early in the game while the Bill's defensive starters are on the field with a focus on protecting RGIII. Theres always something to practice even if we play it cautiously. If we do that id like to see RIII and the oline starters stay in later into the game as the defensive talent drops off. |
