I second this, not because of anything against Grossman. It just doesn't make sense for him to be on the roster, and not dressing for games at this point.
He did have a pretty good year playing for Kyle, and he has the tools to be a quick plant and go back like he was for the Texans, and WVU. Who both run similar styles in the running game. It only takes one chance to prove your worth.
Our running style has undergone a major re-design this season. I think some of the offense would be similar to Kyle's Houston style, but certainly not most of it. I want a running back that's good at chip blocking and releasing. Our pocket keeps folding on the edges.

I dont know if Grant or Slaton is a better run blocker, but if memory serves, it's Grant.

re: Redskins Sign RB Ryan Grant/Place Roy Helu Jr. on IR

Great article from Bleacher Report on Ryan. It was released prior to us signing him, so it leans towards him ending up in Detroit. However that doesnt take away from their opinion of his skill set. Pass blocking is a strength for him. I think in a weird way this helps with two things, not weighted equally. It's another body in a hurt running back rotation, and to a lesser degree, it could help Griff on 3rd downs get to his 3 and 4th reads.

If pass blocking is a strength, then its actually a really smart signing. Lets slide him in a Right Tackle. Speaking of, any word on that worthless POS Jamal Brown?

Ryan Grant+Jordan Black=Trent Williams right leg.

About time, I've been calling this for months.

With Roy not being the Helu that we used to know (singing), and Royster also getting banged up a little, we needed another RB in case Morris goes down. We're a run-heavy team...we're going to need more than 3 bodies at HB.

Love this move since he's a backup. He's not starter-material any more but for depth, great acquisition.

Absolutely. We've been trying to replace Portis' blocking since he went down.

We need to protect RGIII.

Grant reportedly had an outstanding workout with the Bears and had offers from multiple teams.

Nice move, and I'm sure the dolphins still want picks for slaton, so forget that.

There must have been something about Slaton health-wise or personal that made that deal fall through. We could have signed him after they waived him too and we declined again.

He was a fumbler too. Had talent and was a beast stat-wise before he was injured and Arian Foster arrived, but he was a fumbler. That's the last thing we need now...we're winning the TO battle every week. It's been ages since that has happened.

The RB-desperate Lions worked Slaton out last week and turned him down too.

There's a reason no one wants him. I don't know what it is, but there has to be a valid reason he can't make a team any more. He used to be a great back.

Everybody forget about Slaton. Our FO did their homework on him.

You've jinxed it now. He will go to some team, rush for 990 yds this season, and everyone will be slamming BA/KS for not getting it done.

I am also with others on this thread that are wondering who or whom the Skins have cut to make this happen. Anyone know?

Funny how they signed Grant for just under 1.2 million, but wanted Portis to re-sign for the veteran minimum. I hope Grant is worth every penny.

There were few other suitors for Portis, but I am sure the Skins had to make a strong offer to Grant to peel him away from other teams.

Chris Clemons will rush for 2,500 yards this year even though he plays defense. That's what happens when Skins go to other teams.

Well, Redskins have officially announced he's been place on IR so that's all the confirmation I need

Not all that surprising, bigger surprise is that he wasn't placed on IR before the season started.

Some of you know I was saying back in July he was a strong candidate for IR. Never could quite get healthy enough.

I still hear Royster may miss some time though. Week or two perhaps

Sucks to hear Helu is ailing this early in his NFL career. He had some injuries in college (though I had forgotten that before), but so far this seems pretty serious. His workload last season wasn't that big, just under 700 yds I think, and it's like he's never recovered. Boo :(

This is unbelievable...the injuries!

The Grant signing was crucial. He's probably the best available RB on the market.

Hopefully Hightower heals up and signs later in the season too.

MTK 09-26-2012 12:57 PM

Re: Redskins Sign RB Ryan Grant/Place Roy Helu Jr. on IR

Would Benson have been a good fit here? He's not really tearing things up in GB in their system. He's more of a power guy who likes to run behind a FB.

SmootSmack 09-26-2012 12:57 PM

Re: Redskins Sign RB Ryan Grant/Place Roy Helu Jr. on IR

It's concerning that Helu was borderline IR leading up to the season b/c of his achilles and now he's placed on IR for turf toe. I'd be less concerned, I think, if the same injury that nearly put him on IR in the first place was the one that eventually did.

And I'm not sure they're done with moves
