Re: Clarett runs a 4.82 40
SC - everyone commented on how great clarett looked. How absolutely ripped he was. He added a lot of muscle, but apparently that affected his 40 time. The Clarett story will be interesting.
|
Re: Clarett runs a 4.82 40
Good job DW! I made that very comparison a while back and that is exactly who Clarett resembles with his running style, I see all the same instinct's as a runner as Emmitt had.
Emmitt Smith has one of the best off pace steps I have ever seen. Probably second only to Walter Payton. he'll slow down just enough to make you hesitate and then off he goes. |
Re: Clarett runs a 4.82 40
I didn't get to read any of the previous comments so bear with me...
4.82?!? HA! I run it in that amount of time. Even though after reading Daseal's last comment, muscle gain could have a lot to do with it. |
Re: Clarett runs a 4.82 40
I have to agree with Daseal on this, Clarett IMO is gonna be a pretty good football player. I do think that he will be a steal if he goes undrafted, or in the 5th, 6th or 7th round.

why does is seem we have guys on here think its good to sign guys with attitude problems? why?? i dont understand
keep that garbage off my skins field |
why does is seem we have guys on here think its good to sign guys with attitude problems? why?? i dont understand
keep that garbage off my skins field
I am not saying that he should be a redskin, all that I am saying is that I think that he will be a pretty good football player in the NFL. I think that someone said that Al Davis' Raiders would be a good fit for him, I kinda think so too. I mean Clarett weighs 234 and seems to be the type of back to make his yards between the tackles. That is what Norv needs a back to run between the tackles. |
Re: Clarett runs a 4.82 40
jrocx: Clarett isn't as bad as you want to villify him to be. He screwed up - yes. A majority of people that hate him don't know WHY he got in trouble with the school, they just know that he was ready for the NFL and tryed to change it. For some reason people dislike that. I promise you had he gotten into the draft after his freshman year he would have easily been a first round pick.
I think Clarett has a lot more potential than Ladell Betts who in my opinion, is a waste of space. Incidentally, I clicked solid starter. I wasn't the all-pro or canton voter. |
Re: Clarett runs a 4.82 40
IRP, even last year he was projected as 3rd-5th round material, whereas williams was a solid round 1 lock...
|
Re: Clarett runs a 4.82 40
Last year he had taken a year off already. I said right after college, that guy.
|
Re: Clarett runs a 4.82 40
probably been mentioned...but Clarett wont be drafted because of his 40s...but because he decided not to do any other drills because of it. i do realize that 40s dont mean shit when it comes to game time, but not participating shows a big me first attitude...
he'll have to prove himself if he goes undrafted...do not be surprised to see him possibly in Canada... |
Re: Clarett runs a 4.82 40
Note to the "All-Pro" and "Canton" voters:
We have a historical problem detecting sarcasm here. Please identify yourselves for deportation if you were serious. |
Re: Clarett runs a 4.82 40
If I was a NFL GM I'd take a chance on him late in the draft, he's worth a flyer in the 6th or 7th.
why does is seem we have guys on here think its good to sign guys with attitude problems? why?? i dont understand
keep that garbage off my skins field
Sorry this is long winded. I am not saying we should sign Clarett or guys with attitude problems. It just amazes me how in this overly hypocritical conservative time we live in, some want us to field a team of boy scouts. Back in the day before the overly aggressive media would dig into all aspect of a players personal life.... some of our past all time great Redskins were colorful, entertaining players and some even had attitude problems. Would you not have wanted them on our team if they played today?. John Riggins was considered a cancer with Jets and forced his trade to the Redskins. Once here, he sat out the entire 1980 season in a contract dispute. He also was a raging alcoholic. Do you remember the famous black tie dinner after the second super bowl, where he was sat a table with Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Conner. In front a table full of embarrassed guests, Riggo proceeded to get stinking drunk and offend O'Conner. Then told her to, "Lighten up Sandy baby." He then proceed to pass out and start snoring loudly during a speech. Everyone in this banquet room could hear him snoring. Sonny J., Billy K. and few others from the "over the hill gang" used to sneak out of their training camp dorm rooms at night after curfew to drink and play poker well into the night. Then they would arrive at practice the next morning all hung over. If that happened in today's NFL they would get suspended and branded as not being team players. Dexter Manley - Need I say more. Tony Peters - After 1982 pro bowl year, suspended for coke. I am getting bored with what is turning into the No Fun League of bland and boring players, that talk a lot BS and try to say the right thing to score points. The hypocritical bible thumper's that are not really living the life they preach. I have nothing against religion, I have a problem with some of the players that pretend to be religious because it makes them look good. On most good teams you have a wide range of personalities from boring to brash and arrogant. On occasion you take a chance on a great player that broke a rule or two when they were young (Warren Sapp and Randy Moss). |
Re: Clarett runs a 4.82 40
why would i want a boy scout team? i didnt say that
i would take a bunch of alvin waltons if i had to. he had a bad attitude that was good for the game. look at ronnie lott, a bad attitude in the game, not towards people. clarret is gonna stink up the league IMO. because of attitudes towards his own people. he just showed us the other day that he is a complete child that still doesnt belong in the nfl. pouting and quitting in the nfl is total and complete garbage and shouldnt be put up with. players that say "me me me me me me" shouldnt be tolerated. thats some of the attitude im talking about. but who knows, maurice might just make it with out reminding people of it everyday himself |
Re: Clarett runs a 4.82 40
Matty - please preserve this thread for 3 years. I want to see what we all think (including myself) then!

Re: Clarett runs a 4.82 40
Good article about Clarett
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/draft05/columns/story?id=2001738 Sounds like some reasonable explanations to me, he bulked up too much citing how scouts were drooling over Greg Jones last year, he may have overtrained, etc. |
Re: Clarett runs a 4.82 40
I said Canton, but I am a smart ass.
|
Re: Clarett runs a 4.82 40
I would be the first to say if I truly thought he was a bad kid, I just think he's a kid who's not the sharpest tool in the chest and put's himself in awkward postion's now and then, but I don't think he's a bad kid and I think someone will get 1 heck of a back, hopefully he goes to a team where the head coach has some real leadership to give him direction, if this kid is somehow available for us later in the draft I would take him in a heartbeat, at the very least we could showcase him and trade him later on.
|
Re: Clarett runs a 4.82 40
I am not sure if anyone else posted this but Terrel Davis had a horrible combine, he benched only 13 reps, and ran something like a 4.7 40 which is not much better than Clarett's time of 4.8. I am not saying that Terrel Davis is great but he was pretty good in Denver, and IMO what Elway finally needed for him to win a Super Bowl.
|
Re: Clarett runs a 4.82 40
I think the pressure just got to him, he had a dream and to him it may seem like the world is trying to take it away from him. He will do well in the league with the right coaches and system. I wish we would take him but, we know that won't happen.
|
Re: Clarett runs a 4.82 40
I want him too, diehardskin. I don't wanna trade up in the first round to get him. However if he falls to a late round pick talk about bang for your buck.
|
Re: Clarett runs a 4.82 40
the problem is everyone knows his name now, so bang for your buck is out the window if an excitable owners jumps to early... if this kid wasn't on the news for the last two years he'd just be another RB with a bad time and would go undrafted... at least he's got the PR side of football nailed...
|
Re: Clarett runs a 4.82 40
Yeah That Guy. If scouts were stupid enough to completely disregard him being one of the best freshman college running backs anyone has ever seen. They might forget about him. The fact of the matter is he has instincts and added a lot of bulk before the combine to become a larger type back. That slowed him down a bit. Clarett is a great back - I'm guessing you didn't watch Ohio state in that championship year.
|
Re: Clarett runs a 4.82 40
while Clarret is a talented rb, he still has been heavily overhyped especially given the fact that he only played around 11 games I believe of one season of college football 2 YEARS AGO!! I wonder though how much press he would have gotten if THE Ohio State wasn't in the running and eventually won the National Championship that year he played.
at least he's got the PR side of football nailed...
true but I'm willing to bet the majority of coaches and owners would prefer not having a player in the public spotlight for similar lapses in judgement. I really only see a couple teams seriously being willing to spend a mid to late round pick on him, but then again I was suprised as hell that mcgahee went in the first round 2 years ago even though I knew if he got back to full strength he'd be a heck of a back. I mean this is a sport after all and the bottom line for a vast majority of the league boils down to potential. |
Re: Clarett runs a 4.82 40
that was years ago, he hasn't done anything worthwhile since... and his attitude continues to be not that great. We'll see how he does i'm sure, but i dont really see him putting up big numbers in the next two years...
|
This explains everything...basically he had bad advisers up until at least January of this year. As an UFA he is a beast of a player. That being said UFAs basically suck for the most part so being a beast among them means you might be a serviceable player at some point in your career. If his attitude shapes up and he is able to get his bulk under control and someone convinces him he shouldn't be allowed to make any decisions greater than what he has for dinner then he may be a quality UFA. I wouldn't waste a draft pick on him. |
Re: Clarett runs a 4.82 40
He will go undrafted. And it's a long road to making a roster spot. Teams cannot afford to be that patient with him. Maybe a former USC coach (now in the NFL) will give him a chance. It seems like he deserves it. But you really can't excuse him for being that much out of shape. Mike Williams isn't. :oink:
|
Re: Clarett runs a 4.82 40
Bosshog - he wasn't "out of shape" as people like to say. Prolem is he was too much in shape. Look at a picture, Clarett is RIPPED but he had a bad 40 time.
|
Re: Clarett runs a 4.82 40
Yeah I saw that picture too, the man is enormous. I'll go ahead and drop the bombshell and say that if he stayed THAT big and could still run through holes, I'd love to have him as a 3rd down back if he dropped far in the draft (which won't happen).
|
Re: Clarett runs a 4.82 40
With all that time off....you would think he would have had the decency to hire a SPEED COACH. I bet if he hired a speed coach to work out with for a couple months his time would have been WAYYYY better.
Someone will take him in the 6th or 7th rounds. I read somewhere that the Cards and Raiders are looking to take him around that time |
Re: Clarett runs a 4.82 40
The Raiders ADORE disfunction.
|
Re: Clarett runs a 4.82 40
I don't wanna see him with norv. He needs a coach who he can rely on to be there and be strong with him. Denny Green could do him well, but Joe Gibbs would be the best!
|
Re: Clarett runs a 4.82 40
Yes, he definitely needs someone who builds character as WELL as talent.
|
Re: Clarett runs a 4.82 40
Hey I posted Canton, but probally all-pro at least. The man has talent!!! No one can take that away from him. He is the only reason why the Ohio State won a championship. Now I know he has some issues, but if he gets a good coach like Dennis Green I really think he could do something. I know I'm CRAZY!!! WOOOHOOO
|
Re: Clarett runs a 4.82 40
Skin: If he gets put in the right situation he could be an amazing back. Just hope he is able to find said system that's not the Giants, Eagles, or Cowboys.
|
Re: Clarett runs a 4.82 40
Exxxxactly. I'm just really really curious as to who's going to take the plunge with him.
|
Re: Clarett runs a 4.82 40
al davis seemss most likely, just because... norv is a BAD coach for him though... player lacking character + spineless coach = bad times...
