Is he pretty much done? :(
I would think that next offseason we'll probably take a look at him, but if he's not fully healed and showing no signs of a performance drop I think it could be the end of his time here. Roster spots are too valuable to use on a guy who's out 2 consecutive seasons, and potentially longer, due to the same injury.

No skin (no pun intended) off our back if he's on IR. That won't cost us a roster spot.

Bigger concern with IR is his salary still counts on the cap. I don't know what his hit is if we cut him vs IR, but we don't have a lot of wiggle room this season.

True but I'm talking about the 2014 season. If he's out 4-5 months I think he would be put on IR, no sense wasting a roster spot on someone who will miss the entire season. In 2014 I could easily see him as a roster casualty if he's not fully healthy and showing no ill effects from the injury.

They can keep Carriker on the PUP and by the 8 week mark, they'll get a better idea as to where he is in his rehab. If he is ahead of schedule, keep him on the PUP. On schedule, coaches call. Not on schedule, IR.

2 other notes from todays practice:

Kennan Robinson hurt his LEFT shoulder and tore his RIGHT Pec LAST Year. People had reported at first that it was his left pec/left shoulder/same side. Isn't.

And for all you Chase Minnifield fans, he reportedly has been looking very good in Training Camp, cutting, planting, running and turning on his Knee which he has had 2 ACL surgeries and a microfracture surgery on. He hasn't been wearing a knee brace and was step for step with Hankerson as some mentioned.

He'd have to go on the IR, but with a tag of "designated for return."

Even then, I'm not sure it will be allowed. I think the idea is for them to be on the IR at least 6 weeks, and with a possible return of mid season. 4-5 months pushes this to the end of the season. Personally, I just put him on IR and fill his slot. He's going to be out of football for 2 years basically, and definitely not in football shape. I think his time here is done.

NC depending on how this injury is and how long it will take for this third surgey to take you may be right. It is a shame as he really showed to be a good fit with the defense the couple of years we got him when he was healthy and I was fully expecting him to be a disruptive force last year heading into his third year with the team.

Yeah but I didn't think we had to pay the full amount if he's on IR? Or did I dream that up?

That's fantastic. I definitely have been pulling for that kid. He's my sleeper/fringe roster guy to watch.

‏@RapSheet #Redskins 2nd-year LB Keenan Robinson tore his pectoral muscle and is out for the season, source tells me. Brutal for former UT star.

Well that isn't good. Sounds like we need to add a MLB for the future. A guy who misses his first two seasons on IR is not going to have a hope or prayer to replace Fletch.

Re: Redskins Training Camp Thread wk 1

Who are the guys at MlB that are behind him? The Roster doesn't specify MLB.

I didn't realize we already had his clone on the roster. A UDFA MLB out of Appalacian State. 4.5 40 and undersized at 245 5'9.

We list him at 5'11 @ 249 lol

With Robinson's injury, ILB/MLB/JLB is the single most glaring hole on the roster. Safety isn't great either and, man, that's really a lot of space between the numbers for opposing offenses.

Both Fletch and Riley played all 16 games last year, but 59 worries me this year. I could see him get nicked up a bit. IE needing a couple of guys that can play at times this year.

Safety doesn't worry as much as it did a year ago.

Merriweather is back from what we see out on the practice field, and Rambo, doughty, and Thomas can play. We couldn't sign a top guy so we drafted a couple of physically gifted guys with great ball skills. Rambo can bring some hit power as well.

Thomas is playing SS now. Is this to get him more used to a role as SS if needed knowing that he knows that FS will be an easier switch?

Thomas played as a FS in college and has great ball skills.

I think I can say confidently that Kennan Robinson isn't the answer as the eventual fletcher replacement. 2 years in the league; torn right pec his first year; torn left pec his second year.

Agree. Fletch's age concerns me. 2nd year in a row with Robinson hurt, out for season. I hope we are actively seeking MLB, cant wait for Fletch or Riley to get injuried. For a guy who suppose to be Fletch's replacement, not impressed. Cant depend on someone who cant stay on the field.

so basically Adam is done here.

Defensive end Adam Carriker is expected to miss four to five months after right quadriceps tendon surgery Thursday, coach Mike Shanahan said. That probably will cost him the season. For now, he’s on the active/physically-unable-to-perform list with guard/tackle Maurice Hurt (right knee).

Didnt he play DE in college? That would be like asking Kerrigan, orakpo, Demarcus ware, or Aldon smith to play inside. I don't think that would work at all in my opinion.

It took Jackson all this time to adjust to OLB, asking him to switch again is probably not a good plan. Plus he's suspended for the first 4 games.

People see rob Jackson make more than one pick and automatically assume he can play ILB.

PIMP MY ROD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Smart advertising for Mazda. Didn't want to start a new thread for this.

Robert Griffin III may have been in the driver’s seat while piloting the Redskins offense last year, but it was running back Alfred Morris who was the engine.

Morris, who broke out in his rookie season with 1,613 yards rushing and a second-team All-Pro selection, was a 2012 sixth-round pick out of Florida Atlantic and owned a car that resembled his humble beginnings: A 1991 Mazda 626.

Well, Mazda has reportedly reached out to the Redskins running back’s “people” and offered to fine tune the vehicle. The whole job, which would refine the inside and out and under the hood, would take 6-8 weeks to finish.

“It’s not ‘Pimp My Ride’ or anything,” Morris told CBSSports.com. “No big rims or fish tanks in the back.” However, he might get a handful of updates for the 22-year-old car he nicknamed “Bentley.” “Like a navigation system or something maybe,” he said.

A little history about the car: Morris bought the ride from his pastor while at FAU and made the long road trip to Washington D.C. after the Redskins had signed him. During last season, the car had 124,000 miles on it and reportedly wouldn’t start after he returned from the Thanksgiving Day win in Dallas.

Yeah, I thought Robinson was going to break out and make Redskins Nation proud. Instead his pecs seem to be made of glass and we're back in the hunt for an ILB.

We are dangerously thin at inside LB. Could be a serious problem if Fletcher or Riley get hurt. This is where you miss a Lo Alexander.

First one of the "how to stop the read option" articles that I have read that really addresses the offense's innovation in analyzing how to stop it.

The NFL’s Knowledge Gap | The MMQB with Peter King
Even so, defenses across the league might still be a step behind. At the college level, Mason has seen offensive coordinators using faster tempos by going no-huddle, and they’re creating ways to make reads off interior defensive lineman, not just edge players. Offensive coordinators in the NFL might use as many as 15 formations with the same personnel grouping in a game, but a defense isn’t going to have as many schemes to confuse an offense. Stopping the read-option is about knowing how and where to line up, and being on the same page about how to attack the formation. One blown gap and Kaepernick is sprinting 60 yards for a touchdown.

“There’s no magic elixir playing against those schemes,” Mason says. “It’s being fundamentally sound in terms of your keys. That’s it. If you don’t understand your fits, or where your eyes go and where your help is, you’re at risk. You’re just out there playing ball, and they’re always going to be one step ahead of you.”
