What are the chances another team doesn't claim Crawford?

Another team would have to love him for the long term since he'll give them nothing this year. For this reason, although JoeRed is right that such injured players have been snatched up, the fact is that it happens only rarely. |

Who's going to pick up a player with 3 torn ligaments? ACL/MCL/PCL, all torn. He probably won't be ready to play till the second half of next season if lucky. |
Re: Redskins Cuts
whoa whoa whoa!!
I said nothing bad about Chase. He just got caught in a numbers game. I think he and Royster are solid NFL players. Hell, I think Chase would give KC a more explosive offense than Smith. Royster can play in this league and be an average starting RB - nothing special but moves the chains. Unlike Chase, however, lots of guys can play RB in this league. Not so at the QB position. Alles klar Herr Kommisar?
OK, two niggling little problems: 1. I think JoeR committed the cardinal sin of calling him Daniels in his previous post, and 2. Kommissar gets a double "S" Can't think of an appropriate punishment, but surely SS can (and will)... |

Jake Ballard tore both ACLs, and New England still snatched him from New York. The flip side to what I said is that Ballard hasn't been a big contributor to the patriots since coming off the injury. |

Re: Redskins Cuts
I heard on 1067 the fan that Adam carriker has officially been put on IR. I couldn't find that on twitter, can anyone confirm?

Re: Redskins Cuts
so 3 IR and 4 suspended/PUP to start the season?
that's a lot of free roster spots, since all 7 are in the top 53. and i don't think we're that desperate, but kenny phillips was let go at S if they like him over whoever our #4 is right now. meh. |
Morris, Helu, Thompson and Royster or Williams.
My bet is Williams over Royster.
Good bet. Morris - helu - williams. Awesome. Royster is as good as gone imo. Seems like we came through the first three games and offseason pretty much healthy. Been so busy at work i am alittle out of the loop. Sucks about Crawford, how is Hank? |
Re: Redskins Cuts
Another thing about Niles people don't think about; he's basically a buffed up WR. He also returned kicks (and punts ) at Nebraska. He can fill in if need be at PR should Thompson continue to suffer from fumblelitis.
Back to Niles, it'll be real fun this year watching him line up all over the field and when we use 3 and even 4 TE sets, finding ways to get him Davis and Reed the ball.
Where do I begin? Again I must be watching a completely different game. Niles is good on kick offs. +1 Niles is good at blocking. +1 Niles sucks at catching anything thrown his way. -1 Niles sucks on PR's. -1 He brings new meaning to the term 50/50. Thompson fumbles to much for me on simple runs, but he does not do too bad on PR's. I'd put Thompson on the practice squad. Niles.... I'm not sure what I'd do. I think I'm ready to cut him and develop some new guy who can catch and block. |

His -1 catching has turned into a +1. John Keim said that he didn't see Niles drop a ball until the 3rd week of training camp. He said last year at that same time Niles had well over double digits in drops. |

Anyone following RT cuts around the league?
I am hoping for it to start raining gumdrops |
Anyone following RT cuts around the league?
I am hoping for it to start raining gumdrops
I know the Panthers cut Bruce Campbell, athletic tackle that the raiders drafted out of Maryland a couple years ago. If i remember correctly some people wanted us to draft him on here. edit: I think he was injured that is why he was cut. |
Re: Redskins Cuts
so 5 depth players stashed on IR, at least 1 on pup and the suspensions (t jackson ??, r jackson/jenkins 4 games)
I think we've figured out how to keep a 63 man roster... go us? |

This. I doubt he would decrease the amount of talent at that position........maybe losing PT to some of these young bucs might motivate him. |
Re: Redskins Cuts
I guess the big question to me is do you keep a "specialist" on the 53 man roster JUST to return punts? Or do you go with a Moss/Hall or someone like that in order to use that extra slot somewhere else. I mean Brandon Banks was really a "specialist". They tried to use him on offense, but he was really a decoy and not very effective. Chris Thompson would be a 4th RB or really a "specialist" as a PR. I agree with a lot of you guys in that if the Redskins put him on the PS, he will get claimed. Can you afford to tie up a Roster spot for him. If you do, I say let him return Kicks as well.
|
Re: Redskins Cuts
Thompson is on the squad...whether he returns punts right off the bat or not I don't know but they wont risk losing him.
|
Re: Redskins Cuts
Lets just make RG3 our PR as well. There, problem solved.

I'm sure if you asked RGIII he would give his 2 cents about returning kicks.

I'm sure if you asked anyone on the team they would give their 2 cents. You're trying a little too hard to not like RG3. |
Re: Redskins Cuts
I think Thompson will have the inside track to be the main punt returner. He looked pretty smooth against Buffalo doing it. Just gotta shore up that fumbling issue.
I'm sure if you asked RGIII he would give his 2 cents about returning kicks.
Actually, I've never heard him bash a teammate or the organization. He's been nothing but a team player. You listen to the media too much. There's no feuds and Griffin isn't unhappy here. Are you sure you're actually a Redskins fan? When it comes to RGIII being a Redskin, I don't understand how any true fan can have anything but excitement and optimism for our franchise right now and in the future. |
Re: Redskins Cuts
i think his arm is still hurt from that hit he took vs pitt... it looked pretty brutal.

Oh,is that pesky little fumbling issue the only thing that is holding him back from becoming our PR? Ball security is critically important. If he cannot hold onto the ball, then he camnot play for Mike Shanahan. Right now, I would trust only Santana Moss to return punts. |

Right now, I would trust only Santana Moss to return punts.
Yeah but he's too valuable in the passing game to risk returning punts. Plus at his age they want to limit his snaps to keep him fresh, not increase them. |
Re: Redskins Cuts
Paul should be PR/KR. He's tough as nails and runs hard. Protects the ball well. And isn't important to the offense, the way Tana is.

I am aware of those issues, but it may become necessary in the short term to go with Santana or to use him part time in critical game situations. We are contenders now and we cannot risk giving away a close game. |
Re: Redskins Cuts
Id go with Santana but transition Thompson into the role. Thompson is a bigger threat and a special teams score can affect the game in our favor just as well as a fumble. I'd say focus on the RB role first and address the fumbling issue, then mid season move Thompson into the PR role.
