Re: Redskins Try Out 18 Players
well, i mean... did our D magically get better, or was it the raiders making them look good?
also our special teams have to be close to #32 in the league. they just can't do anything right, so i'm sure there are upgrades out there. i don't know that bringing in people now will help a lot this year (no offseason, new terminology etc), but yeah, we have some work to do.
Yes, Oakland made the D look better than they really are. The Raiders have a terrible, patchwork OL but they were still running the ball down our throats until every RB on their team got hurt during the game. Also, the QB who started against us was demoted to 3rd string after the game. We are not good on D. Yes, our ST's are bad. It seems to me that the Skins should be able to at least pick up a PR/KR somewhere to help our field position. There must somebody decent on the street. BTW, our offense is bad, too. The Oakland game was a win but not a turning point. As of now, we're still playing bad football, IMO. Perhaps a win in Dallas could jump start the season. |
Re: Redskins Try Out 18 Players
Wrong answer. The truth is it never happens. We're holding the tryouts to mask the fact that RG3 isn't totally healthy but Shanahan is afraid Kirk Cousins will play well. That's the answer you're supposed to give!
Silly me. I'm sure Pat White plays into this somewhere too. |
Re: Redskins Try Out 18 Players
It would be really messed if it was. Teams not signing a proven vet, who had a good year last year ( 58 tackles and 4 ints). Seems very odd.
Even though his money demands are the real reason most likely, the reason of not getting a job if he were openly gay would not be odd at all. Besides the possibility of a few players not wanting a gay teammate, the real issue here is teams not wanting the crazy media circus that a gay NFL player would bring to town. Jason Collins is a scrub who can barely make an NBA team and averages more fouls per game than points per game and we had to hear about him every day for 3 months including the President calling him a "hero" for having sex with men. It has less to do with his lifestyle and more to do with the crapstorm of attention and distractions that would come with him. I don't want that distraction. It will be worse than if we signed Tim Tebow. The media ruins more careers than it helps and Rhodes is another victim. If the media's world wouldn't stop because of non-stories like a player's sexual orientation, their religious beliefs or their supermodel girlfriends...teams would not have to consider the rabid packs of drooling reporters when picking talent for their rosters. I'd love to have Rhodes on this team as a player...but I don't want the gay media parade that will come with him if it's true. I don't care either way, just stop Dez Bryant and pick off Eli Manning a couple of times and you're good with me as a Redskin. Oh yeah, and don't do drugs, drive drunk and avoid raping and murdering people. Who you sleep with doesn't matter to me, but sadly, the media is obsessed with it. |
Re: Redskins Try Out 18 Players
I'm pretty sure nobody cares that Kerry Rhodes is gay. That rumor has been swirling around for several years now, he denies it and that's as much as I've ever heard on the subject.
This is being blown up way more than it has even had a chance to go. It's like the slippery slope that hasn't even happened. Stop. |
Re: Redskins Try Out 18 Players
I would not have a clue about his personal life, but I heard the same discussion on sports talk radio this morning.
Like I said, the media is the real problem. |

Jason Smith seems to be getting looks all over the place.

Re: Redskins Try Out 18 Players
Not at all. He won't take a pay cut, that's the main reason why teams won't sign him. Cardinals tried to bring him back on multiple occasions. He said no every time
Thanks for the inside knowledge. |

Lacoste shirt wearing mutherf*cker. Screw Hall's 2 td this season. Those were luck. Anybody can pick 6 Stafford while covering Megatron and anyone can return an 80+ yard fumble recovery for a TD. Happens all the time. But to follow that up with wearing a crocodile? F*ck him, he should know better |

He doesn't cover anyone, and should be fined 100 millions dollars for wearing that crocodile. He gets paid to much and should have to be penalized for his poor performance this year. He should of had 6 TD's by now.. I can't believe he's even a Redskin.. |
Thanks for the inside knowledge.
Sure, but it's not really inside knowledge. It's been reported. However, one entity, I believe it was Deadspin, ran with this "maybe it's because people think he's gay so that's why he's not getting signed" theory and others piggy backed off of that. |
Re: Redskins Try Out 18 Players
^ Yea smoot, I have mentioned us signing him before on other threads and his sexual preference is the first thing that is brought up. So this time I tried to mention it before it was said because I don't care about that.
He is a good safety but I guess he is out of our price range. |

Last Sun. was two bad teams playing each other. The only reason the defense looked better is because the offense they were playing against sucked with the back up QB. |

This is what I'm afraid of. Already have $100 riding on our next game so I'm hoping for a big turnaround |

Pretty awesome!! We need to make pressure consistent and tackle better. I keep thinking the defense has to improve. Lots of optimism with players returning from suspension, Amerson improving steadily, Fletcher typically improves with the season, and hopefully the secondary can gel as a unit. If we can be a mid tier defense for the rest of the season we might win some games lol |
Re: Redskins Try Out 18 Players
Is there some precedent in the Tanard Jackson case? I mean how long can the NFL wait to make a decision on this? Word is Tanard is working out and ready to start working with the team. He is a guy that can definitely help if given some time.
|
Re: Redskins Try Out 18 Players
Yes, would love to get TJax back out there. Merriweather has finally contributed after 2 years, and I'm sure TJax would be better than what Rambo/Doughty is giving us.

Just remember, Tanard Jackson was suspended indefinitely. Not for 1 year. So Goodell can take as long as he wants on Tanard. I wouldn't keep my hopes up if I were you |
Re: Redskins Try Out 18 Players
He's supposed to find out next week. That was the last I heard, but it was subject to change

All this TJax talk, is Rambo even playing special teams?
|
Re: Redskins Try Out 18 Players
Rambo needed to be sat for sure but I hope he's not wasted draft pick. Shanny has that knack for alienating players and souring the situation.

Plummer is probably the best example. He was shannys most successful QB since Elway too. |

Yes, next week Goodell will tell Tanard "I've made a decision; I'm going to think about this and make a decision at the end of the year." |
