Well this is big news
Perhaps he won't intervene with that decision, but that doesn't mean he won't decide to allow someone else finish the season as the head coach. |

Yeah but in that case Shanny wins and walks away with his $7M and Snyder looking like the meddling a-hole. It won't happen but it would be great drama if he just canned Kyle now. |
Re: How would you feel if Shanahan benches RGIII?
there are pros and cons to benching or playing rg3 at this point. either choice i hope the best possible outcome happens.

It's the manipulating on top of the lying that irks me. Coaches don't necessarily lie all the time, they just skirt around the truth. Shanny is just a rat bastard trying to get out of town without taking blame for the mess he created. |

I really have to wonder what sparked this whole thing. Like was there an exact moment that Shanahan caught Snyder pissing in his coffee?
Let's call it what is really is, a BS move on Shanny's part to further tick off Snyder. This is Shanny's version of the swinging gate play.
He's not concerned with RG's health, otherwise why trot him out there on a snowy and sloppy field last week? Why didn't he have him sit out the first few games of the season? And why aren't other key players getting sat down to protect them as well? Calling it anything other than a power play is just naive.
No denying this but Redskins fans have to live with the outcome regardless of why things are done. I think starting Cousins is a win-win situation. RG3 is not 100% so no reason to risk injury now, he is the franchise regardless of what anybody thinks. That's what three #1s dictate. Cousins could use the experience. RG3 needs to sit and watch. I think he should share a little blame in this giant mess and I hope sitting him humbles him a bit. It would be great if Cousins ran the offense better than RG3 so he can realize he still needs a lot of work and his athleticism is only a small part of playing QB. No matter what happens, Shanahan is going to spin it in his favor. If cousins does great, he will say RG3 was forced on him. If cousins sucks, he will say they don't have the personnel to run his offense. I only hope the backup linemen get a chance to play too. Can't wait for the next chapter... |

What if Kirk plays well? We are playing against some of the worse defenses in the NFL coming up. Does he then pull Kirk, and put back in RG3? lol

Yes he did, mistake #1 was giving him total control. But coming off the Vinny/Zorn fiasco it's understandable he was desperate. |
Re: How would you feel if Shanahan benches RGIII?
Snyder could end it by firing Shanahan today.

Re: How would you feel if Shanahan benches RGIII?
Right now, as I keep turning this over in my head, the best thing for the team's future is for Dan to sit down, shut up and simply endorse MS through the season:
"As I have in the past, I will continue to support Mike as he leads the Redskins through the 2013 season. Anything that will assist him in winning these last games, I will do what I can to give him. During these final three games, I will not disrupt his management of the team or the lockerroom he has assembled. As in any year, once the season has concluded, I will evaluate the product put on the field by those I entrust to do so and make my decisions on the team's future accordingly." The only response after that is "It's Mike's team. I do not interfere in his decisions". If Dan can keep a cool head throughout this, I think he can do a lot to retrieve his reputation and demonstrate that a coach will be well supported here, even in tough times. Unlike in the past, I think Shanny's machinations are pretty transparent to "the Media". Maybe that is just wishful thinking. Who knows ... Shanahan's little sh** show may, ultimately, wind up being the best thing for the Skins in while. |

You'd think there'd be a more constructive way of dealing with getting fired than that though. |

You would think so, but it's clear he's more interested in saving his reputation vs going out like a man and saying this was on me. |
Re: How would you feel if Shanahan benches RGIII?
I'm sure he'd like to but his hands are tied. He comes off as the bad guy if he steps in.
Not to me. Formally forbid it for any reason other than a true injury. Write a MF'n letter and tell him not to do it or he'll risk being fired for cause. Then release a statement calling into question Shanahan's motives and integrity. Start fighting back. |

They lie to gain strategic advantage on the football field. Shanny is lying to steal money. |
Re: How would you feel if Shanahan benches RGIII?
If it's truly about the concern of your star player's health (and he's just ONE of the star players IMO) then you need to sit the rest of them. I would sit Morris now that he has gotten over his 1000 yards. I would keep Jordan Reed out, Pierre Garcon, Kerrigan, Orkapo, etc....this move with RGIII is just in spite. It just kills me that they're not getting rid of Shanahan this week.

I think DS has caused plenty of issues in the past. I am seriously struggling to see how this mess can be laid at his feet. Beyond the obvious notion that all of this ends at his doorstep at a certain point it has to be acknowledged that all of this has been caused by Shanny. What exactly did DS do to cause any of this? No one has really laid out a single thing other than that he had dinner with the team's QB. Having dinner with Rob caused Shanny to shit the bed for 4 straight years basically? I don't buy that at all. That's crap. |

But boy would I want to drop a pipe bomb on Shanny's little plan. Hard to do though since DS doesn't have a lot of good will built up in the media. |
Re: How would you feel if Shanahan benches RGIII?
Sitting RG now also protects Shanny from criticism if god forbid he did get hurt, his rep would really go in the tank. Either way it's a move based on his own motives, not out of concern for the team or player. Just another CYA move.

Re: How would you feel if Shanahan benches RGIII?
Snyder could end it by firing Shanahan today.
It's not that easy. Shanahan has painted Snyder to be this hands in the cookie jar type of owner. Shanny has painted himself as trying to right a ship Snyder didn't completely let him. If you read the article I posted earlier in the "Ready to leave" thread, that is the furthest from the truth. Snyder basically shoved everything but his Owner status into Mike's lap and Mike somehow managed to do everything wrong. But Snyder has a rep as a owner and Shanny has a history as a coach and Shanny has brilliantly painted himself as a poor SOB who tried against the odds due to not only Snyder but the players as well. He's made the Redskins organization look so messy and is sending a message that an up and coming coach would be an idiot to come work for Daniel Snyder. If Snyder were to fire Shanny before the end of the season, he's done nothing but prove Mike's point. Snyder kinda has to ride this out. **edit and I don't mean prove, by the way that Snyder IS an idiot. I kinda feel bad for the guy at this rate. I meant prove like, Snyder would be backing up Shanny's story, even though its completely false. |

Certain owners could get away with that and not be considered a pariah among the coaching community. For most, including Dan, it just makes them look bad. Remember Al Davis and his news conference where he justified firing Lane Kiffin. Al was ridiculed. Turned out he was right and Lane was a weasel of boss proportions but, at the time, Al was torched by fans and commentators. Nope. Dan needs to sit down and let Shanahan expose himself as the egoist he is. |

What if he gets injured and all his potential suitors take offers off the table? What if the highly unlikely scenario plays out where he plays elite and then there's a qb controversy next year? There's too many scenarios where this doesn't work for me. Kevin Kolb played 3 games as a starter for the Eagles before they bilked the Cards out of a starter and a 2nd round pick. It just seems like the bench RG3 crowd (which I'm not including you in because the other people have been a lot more vocal about) doesn't look at all the scenarios that could happen if RG3 is benched. |

I dont think any big names will want to come here because they likely dont need the $ and they know it will end badly with their reputation in tatters. That leaves 2nd tier guys who IMO will come in for a payday, take their chances and see what happens. Maybe it will work out but more than likely it wont. In the end this organization is too screwed up for for any coach to come in and make a difference. |

Unfortunately, I agree with everything you said... I don't think there is an answer at this point... At least this time of year, I always have Duke basketball to transition to, which does a good job of taking the pain away... |
Re: How would you feel if Shanahan benches RGIII?
Have the Atlanta Falcons pulled Matt Ryan? No.
Have the Pittsburgh Steelers pulled Ben Roethlisberger? No. Have the Buffalo Bills pulled EJ Manuel? No. Have the NY Giants pulled Eli Manning? No. Did the Minnesota Vikings pull Adrian Peterson? No. SO why in the fuck should the Redskins pull RGIII even though the season is lost? To protect him? Well fuck, why not just sit him out the next year as well. May get hurt you know. /facepalm This kid needs all the work he can get. |
