again, champ's never coming back here.

and i don't think rambo has a learning curve to accelerate. it's hard to put into words just how mind-numbingly bad he was last year. I was happy when we picked him, but man.
I might be wrong, but I really felt like after the benching he came back better. Still the team was so lost last year, I think every aspect of 2013 just needs to be noted, and then move along. It's a new year and for good or bad the defense won't have a micromanaging head coach, so it's on Haslett's shoulder to make it work

He definitely got better post benching but he didn't remain consistent. He played well in spurts but didn't maintain that level or build upon it as the season went on. He's probably a good backup and spot starter but pressed into full time duty, he'd get exposed rather frequently.

Well he was a rookie, the defense in general was a mess. I like that this offseason, everyone offense and defense seem to be in good health(minus Thomas), and ready to get the season started. I like RClark coming in, to be a veteran on the back end, and give some glue for the younger guys to build around.
I don't see Clark as setting Rambo and Thomas back, but possibly accelerating their learning curve. Clark's number one asset at this point is his leadership and mentoring ability.
i also dont see this signing as slowing rambo or phillips development.

quite frankly, the overwhelming chance of either becoming a starter for the next 5 plus years is very small. at best, maybe next year they can compete for a starting spot but what we saw from rambo last year, he is just to raw and needs at least another year at best to learn and adapt.

thomas is harder to gauge since he seemed to be the more nfl ready player of the 2 but that injury is going to make him unreliable as being a healthy body and unproven in that he hasnt played 1 regular season snap.

no way you could go into training camp thinking either one would be your starter. since we didnt add a premier player at a premiere talent level position (FS), i think adding a ryan clark type to plug the hole for 1 year and allow rambo and phillips time to get ready was the next best alternative.

still would have liked to sign a byrd or mitchell though. FS seems to be a very important position nowadays.

Agreed. I don't get how people get excited about a guy whos best days are behind him. Leadership presence, etc only does so much.

Dumpster diving.

Was wondering if anyone would post on the goat!

Louis Riddick had some great things to say about him today. If you look at Ryan Clark now he plays with the hand tape and wears 21 in practice. They were good friends. Still sucks now that the world lost this guy, and the league may have lost the greatest to ever play other than one of the best ever.

The young guys will still have the chance to compete and beat him out. Leadership matters, especially with Fletcher leaving Clark will be a good veteran presence.
I remember him getting plowed by LT at FedEx in overtime in 05 which he took to the house for the win. Remember at the time Sean Taylor was our FS and Clark wasn't really built for strong. Plus we had dreams of a Landry Taylor backfield once upon a time.
ha, ha- that's the only Regular season game I ever took my son to.

He was born a 'skins fan (had no choice), but he also loved LT (who didn't?).

Even though we lost, it was a good bonding day.

Welcome back Ryan!

No problem with 21 being used and Sean king was a decent QB but yes he's gotten huge. Still not Lorenzen big though

I'm glad Ryan Clark is back.....he's certainly a upgrade over what the Redskins had last season with Doughty and Rambo.....Clark could help solidify the SS position and be a mentor to Phillip Thomas and Baccarri Rambo......

Incorrect. Yes, the major issue with Redskins over the years since Snyder has owned the team has been developing our own young talent on a consistent basis. One third of the responsibility is on FO drafting quality talent, 1/3 the coaching staff coaching them up and the other 1/3 is the veterans players on our roster helping the young players learn how to play and develop. That is what this move is partly about. Ryan Clark will be a veteran that will lead by example and teach the young safety's.
What good is a roster full of young guys that get beat like a drum every Sunday?

Dont forget about all the draftpicks we traded away resulting in a lack of talent to develope in the first place.
