Maybe keep Reed for special teams and back up safety, make Rambo compete for a spot with Reed Doughty. Either way make Rambo earn his spot.
I think we should draft at least one late round safety who is good for special teams, and make Rambo earn his spot.
They already have several FSs, and Rambo will need to step up to make the team. If they draft a free safety, Rambo looks like a long shot .
This is an interesting POV. I happen to think that you need to both plan well and be opportunistic to succeed. In short, you need to be prepared to take advantage of luck.

The DeSean Jackson signing is a very good example of what I mean. Because of the highly intelligent and disciplined approaches that the Redskins planned and executed with the salary cap and FA, they were in a position to sign DeSean Jackson when he became a FA. They were ready to take advantage of a lucky break. If they hadn't planned well and managed well, they wouldn't have been able to be "lucky".

I think you're right that the Skins should not become fixated on drafting for certain positions of need and, in doing so, pass over a much better player than the one they draft. They need to follow their draft board and I think they will.
Absolutely, and I think everyone in the league does a good job of planning as best they can to put themselves in the best position. But what so many armchair GM fans at home seems to forget is you can only take advantage of the opportunities that present themselves.

So when an opportunity comes along, everyone should understand there's a cost to saying no.

Hmmm... Odd choice to cut tanard now. Would have made more sense to keep him this offseason at least.

Agree. Very odd decision.

strange.

maybe if they cut him while he was suspended they would have to pay some percentage of his contract or some special condition in his contract vs not paying him a dime while he was on suspension?

They either like our crop of safetys or we're gonna get some kind of safety deal in the draft.

I think I remember reading they couldn't cut him while suspended, but I don't know that for a fact.

Maybe they can resign him for cheaper.

they met with him before cutting him from what i read... so no, i don't believe he's going to be resigned.

He was only getting about $750k. Hard to go cheaper with a vet.

Vet Min FTMFW!!!! By the way what happened to the good old days where everyone suggested signing everyone for the vet min.

I say sign Dirtbag for Vet Min, and let SS go. The quality of info may not be as good, but the enjoyment factor of the site will go probowl style.

Re: Tanard Jackson to be reinstated

Two people familiar with the situation said that the termination of Jackson’s contract had nothing to do with him failing a physical. Instead, it was believed to be contract related. Both people, speaking on the condition of anonymity, said that a return to the Redskins remained possible for Jackson.

Re: Tanard Jackson to be reinstated

I wonder if TJax might not have demanded a new contract upon his reinstatement and Bruce said, "Ah, no."

If so, TJax might test the FA waters and find that no one wants him more than us.

Gary84Clark 05-07-2014 10:15 AM

Re: Tanard Jackson to be reinstated

I want TJax but not "desperate" that's why we have Ryan Clark. Safety is a position of need for a lot of teams. We shall see. I trust Bruce's moves.

Don't think you can release a suspended player.

Yeah this move is a bit surprising but maybe they're looking to go vet min or nothing with him.

NBCDianna reporting via Twitter Jackson is re-signing with the team. Contract mechanics was the cause of yesterday's release.

Wow, we got more safetys than a nuclear missile silo.

RedskinRat 05-07-2014 05:31 PM

Watch Mr. Jackson play like a Pro Bowler. We'll be happy with our Secondary this season, I predict.

Nice to see. More competition, and kinda expected him to be back. Nothing but a positive IMO

Yeah, don't see how this is a negative. Got him for less now. Hasn't got any more question marks than any other safety on the team. Let's see what he can do.

TJax was to get $700k. Now he gets the vet min, $635k. Bruce Allen is pinching pennies NFL style.

If there was ever an irrelevant thread, this one's it. Jackson hasn't played in a few years and was a cast off from Tampa Bay. He's never even played a regular season game for us. SMH...

But the short time he showed on the field was probably the best Safety play we've seen since Sean T. Of course that shows how damn lame the FO has handled that position. Im really hoping Ryan Clark steps up, but I think T Jax's range at FS will ultimately be better.

Give our safety situation last year, it's completely relevant to talk about a guy who could definitely be part of the mix this year and possibly competing for a starting job.

Why don't we wait till training camp and see what he can do before we assume he can't play. I say he makes the team.

I've heard Phillip Thomas is moving well and is playing strong safety second team. That's great to hear. T jax working 3rd string. Rambo 2nd string free at ota s.

He's not lying but it's way too early for making statements like that. The thing that's gotten me confused is - he should know better.
