Re: Around the League: WEEK 1 Baby!
Lacy suffered a concussion but no word on how serious. I had him pegged for a really big year. While Starks seems competent, I think losing Lacy for any length of time would be a big blow to GB.
|
Re: Around the League: WEEK 1 Baby!
Also, Seattle was very creative with its change-ups. GB had to focus so much on Lynch that they could run all sorts of plays off of the option or play-action games.

Re: Around the League: WEEK 1 Baby!
Regarding Harvin, here's to hoping we use DJax in a similar role.

No fun league strikes again:
Carolina Panthers Greg Hardy's Kraken face paint now NFL violation - ESPN Okay. I get the uniform violation rules (I mean, by definition, uniform means all the same). It's ticky tacky, but I get it. I could understand if he was face painting a competitor's logo. But, putting on extra black ... under the helmet? What about what Ray Lewis used to do with giant triangles under his eyes, is that okay? Are they regulating the amount and location of eye black? C'mon man! |

Maxwell is going to get a lot of balls thrown his way. But to me it just limits your offense. I know Sherman is a great player , but is he Deion great? IDK. |
It all depends on how the policy is worded and if the Union agrees to it. Part of the negotiation is to have applied to all players suspended this year for testing positive prior to the season. The policy is not being unilaterally imposed but is being through negotiations with the players union. From the article linked within the cited article:
While I am not 100% certain b/c I don't do much employment law, pretty sure if the NFLPA agrees to it, the NFL is protected from litigation by the players (past or present).
Why wouldn't former NFL players be able to sue say the NFLPA if they agreed to only include those suspended this year? Think of the lost wages that players could regain due to their suspensions. |
Re: Around the League: WEEK 1 Baby!
Pretty sure that when you join any union, you assign it the right to negotiate for you, and in the same vane, barring pure negligence or gross misconduct, you agree to abide by the agreements the union settles on. Sometimes a vote is required, but I doubt the handful of players that might benefit from what you are talking about, would be outweighed by the majority of the players who see the whole tradeoff as a good thing.
Unions would fall apart if each time an individual member could sue the union each time he/she was unhappy about a negotiated policy. |

Absolutely. It makes watching Seattle games very difficult. The Skins are light years away from what Seattle is doing. |

I never knew a union where individual members were able to negotiate their own pay. If the NFLPA were a true union a QB would make QB pay, a LB make LB pay, etc. Players would not work out their own compensation. |

I was thinking the same thing last night, heck i was even curious if we were in the class with Green Bay. I thought Eddie Lacy looked pretty durn tough himself. Too bad about the concussion guess he'll be out a month. |
Count on it.
Well D Jax has been used mostly for stretching the field in Philly. Seattle does that too, but mostly gets the ball to him in space in short underneath routes, screen, sweeps and direct snaps. Id like to see us use DJax in the same capacity and use Roberts as more the stretch slot guy. If you watched Seattle last night, they line up Harvin all over the field just as Minnesota did: backfield, slot and outside. That was done to get the favorable match up, which twice I saw Percy matched up with a LB. Folks thats not gonna work. Even if a safety picks up Percy one on one, thats a major problem. |

The skins are not in the class of the Packers. Certain teams like the Packers always make the playoffs. The skins haven't been that for a loooong time. I think they might be improving, but we will see. |

Are the wheels already coming off the Bills wagon before the season even starts? I have a feeling the Browns will be getting two picks within the top 5 in next years draft. Theirs and the Bills. |
Defense wins Championships....still.
I love that the two best teams (Seattle & SF) in the NFL are mostly winning with intimating defense and a strong running game and not a prolific passing game. I guess the rule changes and enforcing the ones on the books is not enough to let the golden boy QB's shine. Kind of funny actually. As much as the NFL tries to make it a "QB driven league"..... Seattle in their last two games trounced Peyton Manning and Aaron Rogers, arguably the two best QB outside of Brees and Brady. If Seattle's defense keeps dominating, soon you will hear the press use words like boring and bad for ratings. Then more rule changes will come.
And they'll continue to overhype R. Wilson. |

I doubt it, the negotiations at the time were done in good faith by both sides. And there was no dissension in the voting. Again, if they have clear and overwhelming evidence to show either fact, then they should present the case, but the burden would absolutely be on the players making the claim versus the NFLPA at this point. |

True, unfortunately the Skins are closer to the likes of Cleveland, Oakland and Buffalo than perennial playoff contenders like GB, Seattle, and NE. Sad but true. |
Re: Around the League: WEEK 1 Baby!
i wouldnt discount RG3 so quickly. he hasnt had a chance to showcase what a healthy RG3 looks like. He looked good against the browns when we called plays applicable for him vs that vanilla lets-work-on-things crap we rolled out against the ravens.

I would agree. I remember a while back people were debating whether or not the Skins were worst than Cleveland for the past 15 years... Just because that was a debate shows how sad the Skins have been. |

If Wilson has the same knee injury, Seattle doesnt win the superbowl last year and the fans all over the country would be questioning why cant Seattle get it done. They are always circumstances, but to make a blanket statement such as franchises going in the opposite direction and then to follow that up with Buffalo, Cleveland and Raiders level of Skins is just garbage. |

In the last 5 seasons: Buff has 0 winning seasons. Clev has 0 winning seasons Oakland has 0 winning seasons but did finish 8-8 twice in that 5 years. The Skins have 1 winning season. Unfortunately this is the sad truth. |

1 glorious, historic, record breaking, trend setting winning season with a once in a lifetime athletic talent that is now fully healthy and ready to unload wads of awesome all over the field.

Hate to agree with Irish but he is right, this franchise has been bad for many years. Too many and most people outside of our fan base lump us with the CLE, BUF, OAK of the world.
Sad but true folks. |
Re: Around the League: WEEK 1 Baby!
Knowing plenty of long suffering Bills fans, and a Browns fan, they would switch places with just about anyone.
Anyway, it's not worth getting sucked into the negativity. Some people definitely revel in it and like to call it "reality". |

U just cant bottomline it and say they are equals
Equals? I didnt say that and I do think the Skins are a little better off than Clev or Buffalo. But that sad fact of the matter is that in 4 of the last 5 years the Skins are bottom dwellers just like the teams I mentioned. Heck, just the fact that we can even have this discussion means that its more true than not. |

Sad but true folks.
You are correct. I talk to friends outside the Skins fan base and they see the Skins as loser franchise. When I travel for work and talk to people in bars and mention I like the Skins they laugh, pat me on the back and ask why. Some of the outsiders started to change their tune in 2012 but when you ask them about 2012 now they are more inclined to think it was a fluke than the start of a turn around. Redskins reality is a tough pill to swallow, especially for many on this site who live in fantasyland about the Skins. |
Re: Around the League: WEEK 1 Baby!
Nobody is saying the Skins are world beaters or a model franchise, but lumping them in with teams that have never been to a SB or haven't sniffed the playoffs in a decade is going a little overboard.

I think we've improved over last season and we are more likely to look like the playoff team of 2012 than we are to resemble the disaster of 2013. When we go to the playoffs this season, you'll be able to point out to the people you meet that we made the playoffs in two out of the last three seasons, which makes us winners in my book. BTW, even in the Gibbs I era, I met people who would swear that we wouldn't go anywhere in the playoffs. We've never gotten the respect we've deserved, so don't expect that to change. Just stay positive and you will soon be rewarded for your faithfulness. |

Since 2000: Clev has 1 playoff appearance. Skins have 3 playoff appearances Oak has 3 playoff appearances including a Super Bowl loss. Lets not get carried away with who and who isnt sniffing playoffs and Super Bowls in over a decade. |

We will finish higher than all those teams this year, but hey, some will still say we are just as bad as those franchises

Re: Around the League: WEEK 1 Baby!
Interesting when you guys decide to cut off certain years.
|
Re: Around the League: WEEK 1 Baby!
New season, new head coach, and imo, doing things the right way now. If I'm right, we will be back up in the top echelons soon. Lets not forget Seattle is 3 years removed from being part of the worst division in the league.
Time for the Skins to start moving up the ladder! |
Re: Around the League: WEEK 1 Baby!
Interesting when you guys decide to cut off certain years.
I would say we were a top tier franchise up until 1991. Some people still walk around thinking we are that same level franchise. When in reality for the past 22 years (fairly good sample size) we have been poop. |
Re: Around the League: WEEK 1 Baby!
All depends on how you want to look at it. Sure the Skins have stunk for the most part since '92, but those 3 SB's are still relevant and can't be taken away.
