To go along with this, Keim says we sent an extra rusher on only 15 pass attempts against the Eagles. |

No he hasn't and I still don't understand why he was signed but I love Breeland, loved him in college, I think Breeland and Amerson will be a good tandem for us, for the rest of the season. |
Re: Our Secondary
Breeland is going to have some growing pains but I'm fine with having a young guy out there. Im just worried his lack of speed will be exposed.
I hate RAK. doesn't show up in NFC east games. I would rather have Rob Jackson back. |

Wasn't Haslett going to unleash him to rush the passer this year? According the Orakpo fan club, he was going to be a different player this year. I think the words were "you will see...I can't wait". All kidding aside, I have been the biggest critic of Orakpo in the past for not keeping contain and gap responsibility when he wildly rushed the passer in the past. The ironic part is he has improved on that this year. Seriously, I have been impressed with him improving on that weakness he had, but he has not yet gotten the sacks yet. It is a long season - he still has time to get his sacks. . |
Re: Our Secondary
Breeland will kill us with avoidable errors. Almost all rookie corners do. But the bright side of the Hall injury is that Breeland will enter next year with considerable experience for a young pup.

They did? They only had 2 QB hits the whole day and 0 sacks. ZERO. Actually, 3-4 seconds is a lifetime in terms of a QB holding the ball. If they are holding over 2.7 seconds, it's too long. (may be long even then) Fast releases for Peyton Manning, Tom Brady have propelled their NFL careers - The Denver Post https://www.profootballfocus.com/blog/2012/11/07/signature-stat-snapshot-time-to-throw/ https://www.profootballfocus.com/blog/2014/06/16/qbs-in-focus-time-to-throw/ Even if he was getting the ball out fast (which he wasn't), it's up to the coach to counter that. Sounds like Haslett got out-coached yet again. THAT, I can buy. |
Re: Our Secondary
Foles was on his ass all day. No sacks but there was definitely a lot of pressure.

I personally like our young secondary, they'll be fine. They will have growing pains and success, a change needs to happen at some point. Amerson, Breeland, Minnifield, I wish Crawford was brought back.

We must have watched different games. He have have been pressured some but the 2 QB hits definitely contradicts your statement about being on his ass all day. |

I don't know about the 3 to 4 seconds but totally agree otherwise. Their play calling was a lot of quick passes and reads. Our pass rush with 4 could always improve but they were definitely game planning for it. |
Re: Our Secondary
Hated to see the D Hall injury, but it definitely opens opportunities for the young guns.
Also, Porter getting in should help out- he's always been solid. I'm OK with getting a good long look at Trenton Robinson as well. No better way for them to learn than to strap it on & get them out there. Hail! |
Re: Our Secondary
So either they cant cover for a short amount of time or the pressure wasn't getting there. Whichever one it was is a big problem.

Not sure what the league counts as a "hit", but he was definitely knocked down more than twice. According to the stats the Eagles had no hits on Cousins. That makes no sense. This hit for example was from Kerrigan, but he had no hits in the stats |

IMO we got some good pressure. The fail was Kerrigan. He was good and got in a few licks. But he was matched against a 3rd string tackle. He should have DOMINATED. Although Kerrigan has been playing well so it is hard to knock him, sometimes you need a player to dominate his matchup and Kerrigan didn't. Getting close wasn't good enough for him - he should not have gone sackless. |

You can see he gets there slightly before Kerrigan.
A QB hit is defined as a play when the QB gets hit while throwing or immediately after throwing the football.
No idea to the subjectivity of how they gauge it. |

Here is the thing. If Philly is going short passes and your DL/OLB KNOW they aren't going to get to the QB in time, shouldn't they be getting their hands up? That's a coaching issue. |

Nothing fickle about it. Philly was missing quite a bit from the OL. There was no excuse as to why we couldn't get the same type of result from the Philly game. At least 1 or 2 sacks with a banged up line. Nobody said the coaches/players were clueless, but the job didn't get done. So it's either one or the other. Is it the players? .........Is it the coaches? It's about consistency. It's about adjusting. Philly adjusted we did not. For fucks sake man, they scored 37 points on us. That's not the mark of a good defense. |
Re: Our Secondary
I wonder if they played the Eagles differently, respecting McCoy/Sproles' ability to take off if they went after QB & missed.. That combined with Foles' ability to get rid of it so quickly..
I suspect we may regain our form against the Giants. If we stop the run as in past, score quickly with Cousins & team, and force Eli to pass --- the Dline may be able to have a field day with their shaky O-line. I'm looking for Kerrigan & Hatch to come back with a vengence.. |

Re: Our Secondary
Going in to the Eagles game, everyone was keyed on not letting the McCoy/Sproles tandem kill us. And we did. They had something like 22 yards rushing, and it was the WRs (Maclin especially) who killed us. We had a fair bit of pressure on Foles, but he got the ball out fast, which is the mark of a quality QB. I hate to say it, but I came away from the game convinced that Foles is not a one year wonder - he got hit a lot (and a few times pretty hard), and he kept getting up and throwing. He was impressive.
I think the point here is the quick release made generating sacks and more "hits" (however gauged) harder to come by, and our secondary did not do a good job of defending passes. With Hall out, we will have to see whether the new guys (Breeland, Minnifield, Porter) step up or get stepped on. And we will know in 48 hours. |

The Eagles are currently the #2 ranked offense in the NFL in scoring and #3 overall. Redskins are coming off a 3-13 season and our defense was terrible in 2013. QB Nick Foles and Chip Kelly's offense is very good and well respected. Found this: In Week 9 of 2013 Nick Foles became the second NFL quarterback to post a perfect passer rating (158.3) while passing for more than 400 yards, and the first NFL quarterback to post a perfect passer rating and throw seven touchdowns in a single game. Foles holds the best TD-INT ratio in the NFL with 27 touchdown passes and only 2 interceptions which he accomplished during the 2013 season, This has to factor into it a little bit. While I am disappointed our defense did not play better, we were playing a very good offense and QB. |

In the 2nd half, coming out of the half Philly had: 7 play 60 yd, ending in FG 9 play 48 yd ending in FG 5 play 17 yd ending in Punt 5 play 26 yd ending in Punt 8 play 76 yd ending in TD 4 play 2 yd(critical stop after INT) ending in FG 3 play -10 yd ending in Punt The first half they had drives of 48, 80, and 64 that resulted in a Fumble and 2 TDs. I would say that they adjusted pretty good. Sure, Rather not give up early Touchdowns but you can't say they didn't adjust, just because sack numbers didn't go up. Even on the TD drive in the 4th, it was stopped on 3rd and 5 but the interference penalty gave them the first, and then an exceptional catch by Maclin on the next 3rd and 8. |
