Re: Forget Ramsey for a minute...My last days as a Redskins fan?
I think you're being a little melodramatic about the whole thing.
Our offseason really hasn't been THAT bad. Yes, Smoot and Pierce are gone, but what we did was establish a precedent for coming years that we are no longer the team that will pay mediocre talent a mint. We gave Smoot AND Pierce respectable offers and they went where the money was. Nobody's fault but theirs. Not Snyder's, not Gibb's. That being said, we made some key pickups this offseason. David Patten will provide us with a great #2,#3 receiving threat and the addition of Casey Rabach will bolster the line even more with the return of Jansen. I'll admit the Coles and Moss thing was a disaster and I would put a lot of blame on Snyder for this one. However, we got the best deal out of it we could given the situation. So Taylor and Moss aren't showing up for workouts? That's disappointing but I would say the organization is in disarray because of it. Also, I am confident that the Redskins are not going after a QB. I think they'll go WR and some type of defensive player with their pick. |
Re: Forget Ramsey for a minute...My last days as a Redskins fan?
That may be...I guess we'll know soon enough. I just think that we made a terrible trade to get into the bottom of the first round and for what? A QB? We couldn't have found one with our first round pick next year? Is anyone at 25 that good?
|
Re: Forget Ramsey for a minute...My last days as a Redskins fan?
I just have this feeling it's part of a master plan. I agree that if we do anything BESIDES package that pick then we got the shaft in that deal. That being said, as long as we pick someone NOT a QB with the #25 pick, I'll be satisfied.

1. I will believe the existence of a master plan when I have seen consistent evidence of one. So far, what I have seen is "hmmmm, what looks good today." 2. Although I generally oppose the trading of draft picks (especially future first rounders). Given the needs presented and the apparent depth in this draft at those positions, I am okay w/ this trade so long as it nets us a good corner and either a WR or DE of starter (or potential starter) ability. After listening to JG, VC and Danny Boy's press conference the other day, I would not be surprised if the plan is to stay put and draft the best two CB/WR/DE athletes available unless presented with an very good offer to trade down on draft day. One thing Vinny said was that "on draft day the cost of a pick go up". I think that is true (yes, I know it's a Vinny statement - but hey, even a broken clock is right twice a day). 3. If the Skins trade up, I will puke burgundy and gold until my innards have been retched up and I have died in deep despair. There is NO ONE in this draft worth moving up for given the cost to do so. Braylon Edwards? let's see, the last Michigan receiver (who, by the way, won the heisman) which jumped up for? Desmond Howard. WR's in the 1st round are, at best, a pot shot. If Williams falls to 9, fine, take him - he is worth a shot. Otherwise, ain't nobody worth 4 picks (plus some) to grab. Dear god, I hope they stay put. 4. I hope they don't take Campbell at 25. Grab and develop a QB from the later rounds if you must. Reserve 1st round QB's for someone who is projected to start this year or the next. I don't think Campbell fits that description. |
Re: Forget Ramsey for a minute...My last days as a Redskins fan?
Whoa. I get on after work and this is what happens.
I'm a Redskins fan whether they never win another game again. My future generations will ALSO be brainwashed into thinking the same way. I wish the draft would hurry and happen so that HOPEFULLY we can be like, "Whew, I was afraid something crazy was going to happen."
Have any of you guys ever worried about what would happen if your kids chose to like a different team? Cos I have. Alot. I just know I'm gonna be cursed with some little tyke trotting around the house in cowboys pajamas. Some of my greatest memories are watching the Skins with my family. My dad and uncles would be there, then my grandfather the patriarch would come out in the same Skins cardigan he wore every sunday and sit down in his chair. Near the end of his life - the initial post-Gibbs years - the doctor forbid him from watching if they were doing to poorly because it was bad for his heart. So anyway, any kid trying to break that tradition needs to look up adoption agency in the phonebook. |
Re: Forget Ramsey for a minute...My last days as a Redskins fan?
lol...I think that's pretty funny. I just hope my kids like football. I don't know if I'm going to push a team on them. I have always like the Skins because my brother and my father do. I guess. I don't really remember. I've just been a fan for as long as I remember and regardless as to what I may say there are no plans for a divorce...lol

Re: Forget Ramsey for a minute...My last days as a Redskins fan?
As I have said in other posts, I am truly blessed. My 2-year old son knows "football" and "touchdown", and how to spike the ball and "go long" (he tosses me his football, I tell him to go long and he runs to the end of the hall and turns around).
Just as important, he knows who the Skins logo and knows that they are "Daddy's touchdown". |
Re: Forget Ramsey for a minute...My last days as a Redskins fan?
I think everyone needs to seriously chill. Seems like in the short week I was gone the Post and the Skins have been going at it hard and heavy, and at this point it's really hard to discern fact from fiction.
#1, I can't see how the Skins could even think of dealing Arrington with his cap implications. #2, I really think the media is running wild with this QB talk. A QB visited with the team and the team seems to like him, big whoop. The media always loves a good 'ol QB controversy, and this is no different. Crazier things have happened, but I can't see us using a first rounder on a QB when we have other more pressing needs like corner and WR, and Campbell is a guy who wouldn't be ready to play right away anyway. Seems to me the more likely scenario is the team trading up to try to obtain Edwards. Personally I hope they hold on to both picks and address our CB and WR needs on day one. |
Re: Forget Ramsey for a minute...My last days as a Redskins fan?
This is ALL the media spreading rumours, taking quotes out of context and making big deals out of them. The Redskins know what they are doing. Do we know what it is? Hell no! But guess what? Neither does anyone else....Hey, isn't that the point before the draft???? They have contacted teams above AND BELOW them inquiring about trades....it's called keeping their options open. The media has just decided to focus on the ones above. They have a plan.
Calm down everyone! Maybe, just maybe, if we don't "win" the offseason, we'll actually do well during the season!!! You never know.... |

matt jones and pac-man jones thats whats gonna happen. How many people think we should of done the randy moss for Arrington straight up trade now?

Re: Forget Ramsey for a minute...My last days as a Redskins fan?
Offis check your facts before you yell NO!
It was Gibbs who recruited and asked to get Doug Williams. Gibbs was soley responsible for getting Williams. Gibbs coached Williams early in his career and they were friends. Doug Williams had a little bit of talent wouldn't you say? He did take us to the super bowl and he was the MVP of that SuperBowl. Gibbs also scouted all the QB and gave the final ok before Beathard or Casserly (sure would be nice to have them back) pulled the trigger on any QB. Gibbs heavily scouted and gave his blessing on Rypien and Stan Humphries. Drafting Campbell would not be so bad. We need a back up plan if Ramsey does not pan out.
Great Post! My facts are just fine it sounds to me like your pulling ideas from no where, and not reading your own posts. You said that Gibbs ALWAYS drafted and develpoped is own QB's, I provided your statement in case of sudden selective memory lose.
I am not as sold on Ramsey as jdlea. Yeah is is a nice guy, but that is not enough. Gibbs has always drafted and developed QB's, even when we had a good one on our team.
Beathard drafted Schroeder, Humphries, Rypien, PERIOD! When D.Williams became avail. Beathard brought Gibbs game film and they broke it down to see if he had developed since his days in the NFL, and they believed he had so they signed him, this wasen't a drafted player or a develpemental player this was an experienced ageing QB. And to say Williams was this great QB, what were you watching? That skin's team carried Williams through the playoffs, William's missed 3 to 4 td's in the championship game against the Vikings to recievers that were wide open, and did everything in his power to keep the Vikings in that game, a game we almost allowed them to tie on the final play. Nobody remembers that one or the bears game before it because of Williams Specatacular performance in the SB, but take a good look at that game, the denver defense was taylored made for us, that was one of the great mismatches in SB history as far as a matchup between an offense against a defense. I am getting off track here, but the point is Williams doesn't even factor into your original statement, kind of amazing that the 1 QB gibbs has a say in is 1 of the worst signings in our history, Brunell! But we are to believe he was the genious behind scouting all these other unknown QB's, when Bethards reputation was just that, finding unknown talent, he did it for every team that he was the GM. Beathard brought in the talent, Gibbs decieded who played, those are the facts! |
Re: Forget Ramsey for a minute...My last days as a Redskins fan?
With all this talk about a QB if there was any chance of it why would we have just resigned Hasselback? We know Brunell is not going anywhere.

Hasselbeck was a resticted FA that just signed his one-year tender....hardly a commitment... That said, I agree that we should not draft a QB in the early rounds....maybe later as a "project" to put on the practice squad next year and bring along slowly... |

That's way to obvious FD! Stop it! :biggthump |
Re: Forget Ramsey for a minute...My last days as a Redskins fan?
And if we are going to draft a QB in the later rounds, I like the Akron QB better than Campbell. I forget his name, but I watched some of his highlights and the guy can throw some touch passes that looked very Peyton Manning-like.

Re: Forget Ramsey for a minute...My last days as a Redskins fan?
hell why not take Adrian McPherson in the second before the buccs, he's better than all the others and will be a good NFL QB.

Re: Forget Ramsey for a minute...My last days as a Redskins fan?
tony korh-hole-seir said the redskins reminded him of a dog chasing its tail on pti the other day!i think the redskins ought to take pacman jones and a good wr in the draft.nobody knows what gibbs will do but gibbs though.

Re: Forget Ramsey for a minute...My last days as a Redskins fan?
I have aproblem with any redskins fan "Hating Joe Gibbs". The guy bleeds burgandy and gold. Feel free to disagree with decisions he may make in the present, but I just can't comprehend how someone could be a redskins fan and not love Joe Gibbs. I just don't get it.

Re: Forget Ramsey for a minute...My last days as a Redskins fan?
well, take comfort in the fact that by tonight tomorrow we'll know what's going on.

Re: Forget Ramsey for a minute...My last days as a Redskins fan?
I'm pretty sure I will drink myself into oblivion if we do indeed trade up with the Dolphins to get Braylon Edwards. How stupid could we really be? I don’t want to believe the reports, but they just keep jamming them down our throat on TV. Are we really this dysfunctional of a franchise? I know our history says yes, but Gibbs says no.
ESPN and the NFL Network all day long have said that we have been calling Miami and SF and we want their spot to secure Edwards. In an interesting note, Cleveland also wants him and last year they gave up a second rounder just to trade spots with the Lions. This means to get Edwards we would have to trade our two #1's and then some to get up there. What player can we afford to deal away with those high picks and not create a bigger hole on our team? I agree as much as the next guy we need a WR, but pulling a Ditka to get a Michigan WR just makes me dry heave. Did everyone forget trading up to get Desmond "Howard the Duck"? Puke City. |
Re: Forget Ramsey for a minute...My last days as a Redskins fan?
I HATE this years draft!!!! Look at last years draft, by this time it was down to either Sean Taylor or Winslow. As fans we knew by now that the Redskins were either going to go Taylor or Winslow and that is what we talked about.
But this year we have NO idea what the Redskins are going to do come draft day and that sucks!!! All that we have to go by is just rumors and what the media tells us, but something tells me that the media and the people making the rumors dont even know what the Redskins are going to do... |
Re: Forget Ramsey for a minute...My last days as a Redskins fan?
Isn't it exciting? C'mon! I'm nervous as hell and it's april! I'll give it to Danny and the skins: they know how to spice up the offseason. Now if they can just pick properly....

Re: Forget Ramsey for a minute...My last days as a Redskins fan?
My three year old can sing the whole "hail to the redskins". You could say that the brainwashing strarts early round here. And for some reason my son would have poor judgment and like the cowboys i would hold it against him his whole life...no allowance...groundings...he can never touch my car...
I feel everyones pain. Yesterday I went to bed saying in my head that the Skins can either really do good by picking a wr and a cb with there two picks or Cinncinnati Bengal there way to a long time of losses with this draft....lets get this right! it hursts..... will it continue? |
