Re: New Defensive Coordinator 2015
I mos definitely believe with our talent now on defensive we could get much more out of them under a different scheme and coaching.

Richie Pettibon coached and played the game. Gregg Williams coached and played the game. Ron Rivera coached and played the game. Todd Bowles coached and played the game. Quite a few successful coordinators in the league (or were in the league before retiring) have played the game at one time or another before getting into coaching. So I wouldn't shun the idea of London Fletcher being some type of coach for our team. That being said, I wouldn't just throw him in at defensive coordinator, but I don't see why it would be a terrible idea to look at him in terms of being a linebacker coach. |

We need someone experienced on all levels of coaching to right this ship. |

Wade Phillips is who I want but I doubt we get him. Probably will be someone that nobody has ever heard of

I wouldn't want him as a DC. Absolutely not! Not right now anyway. However, I wouldn't necessarily scoff at the idea of bringing him in to assist with the linebackers, either as a position coach or an assistant to that position coach. Fletcher has a lot of knowledge that has come from years of playing his position at a very high level - I can't see how that would be a bad thing. But in terms of defensive coordinator, absolutely not! He'd need time to work himself up the ranks. |

Rex Ryan is a jackass.

Re: New Defensive Coordinator 2015
Greg is the DC of the Titans, the only way he comes back is add a HC and I doubt that happens after the way he left here.
Ken Norton Jr. has been with Pete Carroll since USC, he knows how to run that defense and has the respect/ experience as a player and a coach. |

We could promise him the HC Position once Gruden leaves.

How can you talk about "righting the ship" when you're repping a Ravens Banner? You've already bailed out. It's like shouting helpful tips from your life boat as you watch us sink. I think you'll be more comfortable here: Baltimore Ravens Message Board & Fan Forum - Voted Baltimore's Best |
Re: New Defensive Coordinator 2015
Hire Todd Bowles as HC and let him decide who he wants to pick as DC, that is for some reason Gruden gets whacked.

Wade Phillips is the best most realistic candidate to take over a 3-4 defense... I would be very happy with him as our DC...

NO RYANS IN DC!
Joe Gibbs HATES Buddy Ryan. If you don't believe me read this: WashingtonPost.com: The Redskins Book: Page 172 Some excerpts: "Joe Gibbs was mad. Sputtering mad. Red-faced mad. Punch-the-wall mad. The subject was Philadelphia Eagles Coach Buddy Ryan, and the more Gibbs talked about him, the madder he got. The words came in angry bursts, as if Gibbs were ready to deck the questioner, as if he hoped that Ryan would feel the punch in Philadelphia." "I live to play a game like this one," Gibbs said. "I live to play this guy." "If you lose this game, Buddy Ryan is going to call you a bunch of fat asses like he did last time. If you don't mind being called a bunch of fat asses, that's your business." "That very day, Ryan had joked about how uptight Gibbs probably was, while he, Ryan, was loose and confident, knowing that he had a Super Bowl contender. Indeed, to help prepare for the Redskins, Ryan had taken his Eagles to Tampa, the site of Super Bowl XXVI, for a week of practice. "We plan to be back here," he said with a smile." "When the Redskins filed off their bus outside the Vet for that playoff game on January 4, 1991, they were stone-faced and determined. Gibbs had injected a Notre Dame-Miami hatred into them — and on the Redskins' first play from scrimmage, he was amazed by what he saw. "The line of scrimmage just exploded," Gibbs said later. "Our guys knocked Philadelphia about seven yards back."" NO RYANS IN DC! Don't make me rent a bus. |

Knowledge is key....I can name a list of players who became coordinators. Dennis Thurman, Todd Bowles, Ritchie Petibon, Jack Pardee, Dan Reeves, Don Shula, Mike Ditka. London Fletcher would make a very good defensive coordinator.... |

Everyone's been calling for Rex but we don't need anymore drama here. |
Re: New Defensive Coordinator 2015
What does Gibbs have to do with Rex Ryan? I think sometimes we get a lil bit too much nostaligic with the glory days. Rex is his own man. Of course it would be a longest of long shots of just settling for the DC job here, but he is a well established strong defensive minded coach.
|
Re: New Defensive Coordinator 2015
Jim Tomsula? He's been in San Fran a few years now, and it could be the right time for him to leave what with the Harbaugh situation playing out the way it is. He's also 100% as a HC if it counts for anything! :)
Ken Norton Jnr would be my other consideration. |
Re: New Defensive Coordinator 2015
If Harbaugh goes to Michigan, then I think we should raid the 49ers for Vic Fangio.

We were able to get him for Gibbs 2.0 by convincing him he would be the HC after Gibbs retired. Unfortunately Snyder botched that and he went in another direction. Snyder stabbed him in the back. no way he comes back. |

Nothing, Rex and Joe Gibbs have actually spent a lot of time together. And Gibbs had no problem hiring a key Buddy disciple in Gregg Williams I'd take Rex as head coach over any of the previous head coaches we've had (sans Gibbs) 7 out of 7 days. But he won't waste his time here as a def coordinator |

Re: New Defensive Coordinator 2015
As much as I hated Buddy Ryan, he was great for the NFL during his time. I think a lot of people forget that he had some of the best defenses the NFL has ever seen when he was w/ Philadelphia. And we all know about the 85 Bears.

Not as good Petitbone except for 85, Gibbs owned his ass during playoff time or huge game. |

I haven't really asked. Gregg Williams would come back. I mean I don't see it happening, but he's not not coming back because of any beef with Dan. That's just not true |
