Re: We all knew it was coming...
Regardless of what his reasons are (contract or otherwise), the kid needs to grow up. There is NO EXCUSE for him not being with his team right now.....NONE.
It's wrong, period. If it's because of his contract, the Skins need to take a stand and let him sit as long as he wants. If we give in to some 2nd year punk before the Eagles give in to arguably the best WR in the game, we'll be the laughing stock of the NFL and the whipping boy of every NFL player and agent. If it's because he wants to work out in Miami, then he needs to actually get his lazy A$$ to Miami's facilities and work out (and no, one half court basketball game all through the off-season doesn't count as "working out" in Miami). And even if that is his excuse, aren't we past that? It's time to learn the system and put down the weights for a little while. Get with the program Sean. |
Re: We all knew it was coming...
The ESPN article was just retread from the past. There was nothing new. It is striking that no one in the Taylor camp ahs even hinted at a enw new deal. It seems like it is all speculation.
The WP concerns me though. I mean when is this guy going to grow a pair? I am tired of the thin skined 22 year old acting like a 4 year old. Grow the f%^& up you idiot.
Just wondering, but cant teams put a "no-holdout" clause in contracts? Something like the player will have to forfit "X" amount of his bounus if he were to hold out within the first "Y" amount of years of the contract. That way most holdouts would only occur when players want extensions or if they were in the last year of there contract...
I doubt it is permittable by the CBA (that is just a guess) but even if it isn't I don't think an agent would ever let a player sign a deal like that. Hell it might even be unfair labor practice to have a deal like that for all I know. I mean that practically enslaves a guy to a team. |
Re: We all knew it was coming...
This guy is the most unprofessional player the skins have had in a long time. There is no way the skins should give him a new contract and what the skins really should do is look to trade him for some draft picks. ST wont make or break this team so the skins should not put up with his $hit.

Base on my example lets say the Redskins sign Carlos Rodgers to a $26 million 5 year contract with $12 million gaurenteed. In the contract have it stated that if Carlos holds out in his 1st, 2nd, 3rd year he will have to for fit $6.5 million of his bouns back to the team. This way the player and his agent will be on the ball when they actually sign as not to go threw a hold where he would loose over half his bounus. Also then Carlos would have 2 years left under contract to the Redskins where he could either decied if he would want to ride it out to free agency, hold out for a contract extension, or re-sign to a new contract. This way also the team would have had more than enough time to evaluate him to decide if they should re-sign him or let him go to free agency. Basicly they could asses his value easier than say after 1 season.... |
Re: We all knew it was coming...
How can a guy be burned out on football after one year? I'm curious to learn the entire story.
|
Re: We all knew it was coming...
No new Sean Taylor avatar?! Guess we'll have to keep chad morton as whatever rank CRT3 is!
Skinsguy - did you notice how ST was crucified by the DC media? When he got pulled over for drunk driving (innocent), missing 1 day of the rookie synopsis, etc, etc, etc. I think he's basicly upset about a lot of that stuff and want's to get his head straight. I think he'll be okay. |
Re: We all knew it was coming...
Hardball is a MF. I can't believe Taylor signed that contract. Although he was drafted fifth overall, he is a safety (shouldn't that be considered?). Was Rosenhaus his agent at the time? The real question is how much more does he want? If he continues to have a healthy and productive career, there will come a time for another big payday. Unfortunately, tomorrow is not guaranteed. He's not at the level of Ed Reed or Roy Williams. And I would like to know what these guys played for with their rookie contracts. :oink:

Re: We all knew it was coming...
As much as I hate to say this; the Redskins are one team partly responsible for Taylor's flawed ambition. The same thing that will make you laugh, will make you cry. Last year when they took Portis off Denver's hands in a very simular situation they set the stage for this kind of behavior. The only difference, Portis changed teams, and I would imagine Taylor's desire is to remain with the Redskins, but for more money. No strange coincidence then that somehow Portis seems to be his liason to the team. He can't communicate with the coaching staff for whatever his reasons, but somehow manages to relate through another player.
This very time last year we were discussing charachter issues in deciding which players to consider drafting, KW II or ST. Somehow we thought we were getting the better end of the deal in taking ST but it seems to be getting to a point where it's a toos up between the two. Charachter was a point of emphasis that Gibbs placed great demand, but it could be that we have struck out on ST despite his physical attributes. "You pay them millions, and then have to beg them to show up" Joe Gibbs Nowhere, other than in proffessional sports would this form of stupidity be rewarded. |

Ed Reed: Signing bonus in 2002 of $3,625,000. Salaries: 2002-$275,000 2003-$443,750 (plus $1,300 in "other" bonuses) 2004-$512,500 (plus $500 in "other" bonuses) and I've heard he's scheduled to make about $560-570,000 in 2005. Roy Williams: Signing bonus of $4,000,000 in 2002, and another bonus in 2003 of $5,300,000. Salaries: 2002-$1,000,000 2003-$366,667 (plus $4,000 in "other" bonuses) 2004-$616,667 (plus $3,800 in "other" bonuses) Sean Taylor: Singing bonus of $7,200,000 in 2004. Salaries: 2004-$230,000 (plus $730,000 in "other" bonuses) $7.2 Million signing bonus we already gave him, pluse he earned almost another $1 Million in salary and bonuses last year AS A ROOKIE SAFETY, and this guy is complaining about his contract? Are you kidding me? It was all up front money..........guaranteed up front money, and he's complaining? |
Re: We all knew it was coming...
Honestly, if we're going to take what Gibbs and Portis are saying, I don't think he is complaining about his contract. I think (so far) that rumor has been put to rest for the moment. However, not showing up because he's burnt out from football, that is nearly as worrysome.
|
Re: We all knew it was coming...
I wish someone would enslave me to the tune of what these ball players make.

That, to me, is actually more worrysome. Dollars and cents can be worked out........a headcase is a headcase. I sincerely hope he's not burned out already, or you can just forget wanting to please this guy now in order to keep him around for the glory years that everyone is promising. You actually have to want to play football to be a Pro Bowler. |
Re: We all knew it was coming...
taylor had 13 solo tackles last year... only 13..., give him a couple years before considering the big money.

Huh? NFL.com lists him as having 60 solo |
Re: We all knew it was coming...
it's nice to see that huge disparity in yes's to no's cuz he has done absolutely nothing to warrant a new contract. If anything his off the field stuff, even the items dismissed or minor, added up have proven he shouldn't be given a new contract if that's what this is all about. The main thing that bugs me about this more than other similar situations is that he's practically ignored Gibbs' attempts to get in touch.
Huh?

Re: We all knew it was coming...
He wasn't burned out from football. Portis was saying that he wanted to be out of the spot-light and scrutiny for a while... He was under some Self INduced heat last year and in the offseason no one is watching his every move and he is enjoying it right now. I think That is the point Portis is trying to make.

Re: We all knew it was coming...
huh. i wish there was a place where all stats were real, cuz if nfl.com and espn.com both have different stats for the same player, i don't know what to believe. not only that, but madden doesn't have the same stats too.

Tackles aren't an official stat, so they tend to differ source to source. |

If that's the case I'd say he failed pretty miserably. Want to stay out of the spotlight?.....don't be the only player on the team to miss OTAs without an excuse and don't refuse to call your coach back. I can't help but think we wouldn't be talking about him so much if he had just shown up. |

Re: We all knew it was coming...
And if we were talking, it would only be positive things. VERY stupid to think doing this would keep you out of the spotlight.
|
Re: We all knew it was coming...
Not even an issue. I would let him sit for the rest of his carreer before I redid that contract.

Hell NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
well i'm gonna say i told you so when bledsoe drops the bomb on bowen
Drew is going to have enough problems behind a line with 2 aging players and a free agent who just had back surgery......we just need to generate a pass rush to take care of Drew.........he's easily rattled ........ |
Re: We all knew it was coming...
And if Taylor wants to stay out of the spotlight........don't drink too much at parties, stay home and study game film instead...........
|
Re: We all knew it was coming...
I would like to see them restructure the current contract so that it is about what the other guys who held out longer than he did got. He did sign in time to get into camp. If that worked against him, fix it. I'm not suggesting a major fix or a totally reworked contract, just an adjustment to reward him for his play and making sure he got to camp last year in time to learn the defense and make an impact.

Monk. The judge in the case said it was obvious Taylor wasn't drunk and threw out charges. Why in the hell do we hold this over his head. He was proven innocent. Good post GoSkins - curious what people would have said had he held out for a deal to get what he was worth. |

If he was so innocent why did he refuse a breathalyzer test.....maybe he wouldn't have had to go to court for the judge to throw it out............. |
Re: We all knew it was coming...
Maybe that's what the tell the rookies to do at the synopsis. We've gone over this a million times. This is the type of shit they teach them there, and he musta made that day!

I'm guessing you meant symposium, not synopsis. And didn't Taylor skip that to move out of his apartment in Miami or something like that? |
Re: We all knew it was coming...
Yeah, that's what I mean!
I believe it's a 3 day affair and he missed a single day of it. His dad's a cop, so I'm sure that doesn't hurt either. |
