Re: Cousins to start 2015 Season
This just goes to show you that all those training camp reports don't mean much of anything. And it seems that according to Gruden, KC has really improved and taken a jump in his 2nd year in the system.
Hopefully he gets 16 games to so they can figure that out.
I'm fine with some of his INTs if he is aggressive and opens up the passing game.
Brett Favre was always an INT guy but you knew with him in there you always had a chance. I think Cousins gives us that chance that RG3 could not. It was a shame that the QB position up to this point was held hostage by RG3....we might have a completley different team guys overnight. Can't wait for week one...We could suddenly be chumps no longer |
Re: Cousins to start 2015 Season
Have this , to say about that...
It's a.dirty job, but somebody's gotta do it. Let's go Captain Kirk. |

If our run game gets going, he might play really well, but the second we get into a shoot out it can get really ugly. The fact that our secondary is still suspect (at best), it's not likely going to be a good year. |
Re: Cousins to start 2015 Season
If we plan to run the ball a lot more does it really matter who's the QB. News flash Gruden plans to throw the ball. This is no surprise to me once I heard KC was sitting down with Gruden's brother in florida to really learn the offense. I was riding with RG3 still am. I'm a SKINS fan first.
|
Re: Cousins to start 2015 Season
Yeah idc who the qb is I'm a skins fan not a player fan. Yeah I'd love to see KC be the franchise QB for the next 10 years but I'm not expecting that to happen with our recent trend

Re: Cousins to start 2015 Season
The BIGGEST advantage Cousins and McCoy have is they actually understand the position and the offense the Skins are using..IF RGlll actually could grasp this we would not be talking about it..I can't see Robert ever being a starter on any team again.
|
Re: Cousins to start 2015 Season
Gruden needs to be patient with Cousins, he'll probably throw his share of INTs, but give him a chance instead of turning to McCoy right away.
Hopefully the offense can get the running game going without Griffin in there. |

I think they are all pretty convinced that kirk can be a really good qb in this league. He is getting a boost from many former coaches

Cousins may start, but people will see Lots of Griffin for the Miami game.

I see some Hall of Famers on that INT list, as well as future Hall of Famers. Yet this fanbase freaks out when a 4th rounder with less than 10 starts throws picks. Amazing.
KC is going to need a running game. We can't have him dropping back 45 times and expect to not have turnovers. Hopefully we can stay balanced. |

To run the ball you have to run the ball. It's hard to run against 8 in the box. The Ravens were in base run D even in several obvious passing downs and consistently had 8 in the box. I don't think ALFMO's stats were that troubling considering what he was running into (FYI, I wish they were better.) Morris is a constant. Jones is killing people and juking them all at the same time. Kirk is a relative unknown without much on film. If you're a defensive coordinator do you play the pass or the run against us the first game of the season? I think they will play the run hard, pressure Kirk and force him to make quick decisions. They will see if he can beat them with his arm IMHO. |

If we run on them well, then they will bring the safety up in the box. With their front 7, you give them a chance first before opening yourself up for the pass. Especially since they can rush the passer good without blitzes, and with the addition of Suh, I think it makes it more dangerous. |

Re: Cousins to start 2015 Season
Is RG3 still going to be on the roster?
Does anyone know what happens to that 5th year option if he is cut?....does it go away or do the skins have to pay it if he gets hurt on another team? |
Re: Cousins to start 2015 Season
With the right team and coach, RG3 can be a good qb. However I don't think there's a chance in hell that's our team. For now, here's to Captain Kirk leading the way, and proving once and for all whether or not he deserves to be a starter in the NFL.
Cousins has the chance to be very good, or John Beck. Given Redskins QB history the wise money goes to Beck. But until he's Beck, he's Captain Kirk!

What have you seen that tells you he can lead the team down the field when it matters? What I have seen is a guy who shits his pants when he is under any kind of mental pressure. Please enlighten me. If you are happy that we now have Captain Turnover and Captain McConcussion as our top two qbs and rg III has failed to be what we all thought he was going to be beyond the ROY division winner 2012 season, then you must have a bad memory. 2015 is going to be a long year
When he's had the team behind him, he's done very well. The Ravens game in 2012 showed a lot. We're not talking a veteran here, he's a young guy who still needs 16 games to get there. Does he throw picks, yes he does. Am I concerned about it? No more than I was when Brett Favre and many others started out throwing them. Long term, with the support of the team, I think he can develop into an excellent QB. Considering the f'ed up situation he's been put in, I think he's handled it well. Much better than Bobby.. |
I did.. Cheap, ugly wins.. One year does not a career make..
and if you remember this correctly...it was just a 6 game streak....before that the coach basically assumed the year was done...I think we were 4-6 and playing poorly...then we tore through the very weak NFC east that year...excluding those games...the Skins have been fairly average and more recently flat out bad to lousy. Any improvement is good. I will take an average game manager any day over drama over a supposed savior that always disappoints. I like Robert, but...I hope it is over. I wish they would just cut him. It's like an alcoholic that says he wont drink but keeps that 1 beer in the back of the fridge.... Throw out the BEER!! |

Re: Cousins to start 2015 Season
But not Griffin?
Can't figure much out if you can't stay healthy enough to play. Griffin isn't a QB. He's a shiny mirror ball doing just enough razzle dazzle to keep people from noticing that he isn't humble enough to shut up, show up and put up.. |

I'm just trying to keep grounded. Last year I remember everyone getting hyped about Cousins, he was our QB of the future after one game, people were ready to trade Griffin, and then Cousins just completely fell apart entirely and got benched. Now he does fair against mostly 2nd team in a preseason game, and people are ready to jump back on his bandwagon again. I really don't think that there is any solid reason to be optimistic about him. I think RG3 more lost his position then Kirk earned it, and really I think it has as much to do with off the field issues as his struggles on the field. I mean, how is it that Scot wasn't able to tell before the preseason that Griffin was hopeless? Why sign the 5th year option? I mean unless they are sincere about Kirk giving us the best chance, Griffin is still part of the team, and the door isn't closed on him yet. In that case it would make sense to have kept him on only to sit him after he had 1 bad preseason performance for Cousins who had 1 good one, because you could assume then that they believe he has a chanc to develop, but Cousins can help us win now while he does. Or perhaps SM didn't realize how lost Griffin was mentally on and off the field until he saw it for himself and now wants to cut bait quick and eat the losses. I think it's probably the latter, but that doesnt make me feel good about Cousins as our starter or the fact that we've conceded to the biggest bust in history. I'll be just as excited as everyone else when we win, but I'm not excited about this crappy situation. |
Re: Cousins to start 2015 Season
I like the move but I still think the future QB is not on the roster yet.
It be awesome if Kirk took off with this opportunity and never looked back but if he just becomes a mid level QB who can't stop throwing interceptions, I still think having him in the role gives the team a better chance to prepare each week and just focus on the job at hand. We can build around him even if he's only a placeholder for the next guy 3 years from now. Let KC manage the game, don't put it all on his shoulders, let Alf and Gator split 30-35 carries and spend this next few years building out the roster. |
Re: Cousins to start 2015 Season
People are going to be surprised by Kirks improvement from last year. He will play well this year. I normally don't make bold statemental like this, but I have a few reasons to be confident.
He worked with Jon Gruden in the offseason. He even invited RG3 and 7 WR to his training camp to work with him and his other QB coach. All 7 WR joined and RG3 did not. He has ELITE pocket awareness right now. His movement in the pocket is on a high level and has been seen in TC and in preseason. He has put a lot of work in to be the #1 guy. Someone who shows the adversity he has from getting a shot and being benched to working his way to being theb#1 guy again is something we all should look forward to. Having that type of mental toughness behind center will prove to be worthy. Plenty more things to add but a guy I follow on Twitter has a full report of his offseason work he's going to post. I won't spill it till it is. |
