While I'm not ready yet to say the switch Hopkins was a good move, I will say that so far, I was impressed on Sunday with the way he kicked.

Wow, that plan worked.
For now anyway.
Woot!

Seeing that one kick go deep into the seats helped get me on board. That 46 yard field goal looked great. He seems like he's a competitive kid too. As long as he doesn't have any weird consistency issues, I'd say that's one more position that is fixed for now..

Welp, this move paid off big time this weekend.

46 yard field and 3 of 4 touch backs? Good stuff

The difference in leg strength was obvious with the way the ball jumped off his leg on the FG.

Hopkins is definitely an upgrade on kickoffs.

Even those onside kick attempts looked impressive. We legitimately had a shot there.. I'm sold..

I hate praising anyone on this team anymore because as soon as I do, they start becoming damn near worthless.

So this kicker... Yeah. He kicks. Big whoop. Wanna fight about it?

He is humble about it, too. He has made a very positive impression on me as a kicker and a person. I LOVE those long kickoffs!

Ya...it is nice to see Kickoffs going out the back of the End zone for once.

Also so far, I like the accuracy.

His Field Goals are nailing the back of the net, even from 40+ yards out. IF and when he misses, it won't be because he is short, that's for sure.

Don't worry, This week against the Eagles, we will be at the 5 with 4 seconds needing 3pts to win, he will have missed 2 FG's already, and with 1 second to go.

He'll miss it

Such is the life of a Redskins fan who is at peace with any decision by the team.

as forbath goes on to achieve gano (6 seasons), novak (8), suisham (11), and akers (16, and probably one of the greatest kickers of all time) success.
Personally I thought Hocker had a better camp last training camp and the team should have went with him. After all, they did draft him. Now the guy who Hocker beat out at the Saints is now hired to replaced Forbath. Think about that Mickey Mouse shit.
And? 😉

I wish him well. Seems like he would be an improvement over what they had.

Twice getting cut for Forbath.
Not a really a resume builder.

So, if DHop misses a few FGs and we sign Hocker, the circle will continue. Wonder how long that can go?

In all seriousness, I really like what we've seen of Hopkins so far. Honestly, he and Breeland were the only ones that seemed to play well against the Jets.

Hopkins has been money and making McC's choice look like a great decision. Unfortunately we've seen kickers come and go based on a bad 1-2 games, so hope his good play continues.

Re: Redskins release Kai Forbath, sign Dustin Hopkins

I don't think there's any downside to Hopkins yet.

He's shown he has a strong leg and he's accurate. He missed a 50+ yard kick, then came back, corrected himself and made a 50+ yard kick.

Can't hate too much on that. Barring some sort of catastrophic implosion, I think he'll at least make it through the season.

Well....Dempsey made a 63 yarder with half a foot. Sooo maybe he should be doing a bit better than that?
....just sayin'

The way kickers kicked FGs back then (Straight approach), with the style of shoe Dempsey wore (A shortened old school kicking shoe with a larger front face) that half foot was actually a small advantage. Like with a golf club the larger face lessens the chance of a miss hit. Don't know if the modern FG kickers wear different shoes that the other players, but they did
back in Dempsey's day. In today's NFL I doubt Dempsey would have been allowed to wear a special shoe, Goodell (I can't stand him) would have told him to were two identical shoes and stuff a sock in the one with the deformed foot.

I questioned the move at the time but I'm one kick away from ordering a jersey.. So far he's playing at an elite level. Unfortunately kickers just disappear and he could end up doing the same but I sure hope we have our guy for the foreseeable future.
