What happened was this team has sucked tremendously for about 20 years. Nkt everyone has the stomach for it.
I think this has 2 issues: 1. Your point is the ultimate driver. I know many die hard skins fans from JKC era that can't stomach the Snyder era redskins. It absolutely kills them. 2. A lot of dc sports is "x is my first team" and the dc team is their second team because of either social/business schmoozing or they genuinely enjoy having season tickets and watching the sport. For example, have any of you ever been to caps games? Many season ticket holders rock the red for 80 games a year then when the Detroit red wings or Buffalo Sabres come to town, you see those same people in Detroit and buffalo jerseys. I had caps season tickets for years and years and these people made me laugh. Rabid caps fans for 80 games and then hardcore wings fans for the 2 Detroit visits. |
Re: First place Redskins
Yeah, I don't know how often they are actually targeted and it just doesn't work out, but sure seems like Garcon and Jackson are underused.
|
Re: First place Redskins
Oh trust me having a perennial loser will do that. I have been to Raider's games when Washington is in town and I swear there was barely 10-15k there and of those, 75% seemed to be 'Skins fans. It was so embarrassing that I actually felt a little bad and akward being there as a 'Skins fan and not for the usual reasons.

Re: First place Redskins
I tell you what, if Quinton Dunbar plays like today for the rest of the season, we just might have found our complimentary CB to Breeland. Dunbar has size and speed and is smart. Another great find and whoever the coach (Fewell?) who decided to convert him to CB is a genius!!
This sucks, he suffered a broken and dislocated finger today: https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/football-insider/wp/2015/11/29/rookie-quinton-dunbar-to-see-hand-specialist-for-broken-dislocated-finger/ |

When it was 20-14 late in the game and we got the ball back, Giants fans were making so much noise that it was like an away game for our offense. Snyder seriously needs to GTFO out of Fed Ex. Another discussion for another day... |

Re: First place Redskins
What a great victory yesterday!
Feels good to be relevant in the NFC again. I don't think anyone expected us to be in first place this late in the season. Don't really have super high expectations, just happy to be playing some meaningful games in December. HTTR! |

To all the Skins and their fans congratulations on a very nice win, they out played the Giants in every facet of the game !:)
The schedule is definitely in our favor. Gotta win some road games, obviously, but not having to face teams like the Pats or Panthers will help. I'm calling 9-7.
I can definitely see that happening. IMO this team is gaining confidence each week and I think if they get a home game in the playoffs will win it. |

You are a stand-up guy, Giantone. In your opinion, WTH happened to the Giants yesterday? How could they not be ready to play in the first half? That was a big game for both teams! The Giants could have put some distance between themselves and the rest of the division, yet they came out flat. |

What really encourages me is in the article mentioned that he has worked hard on his technique and he listens to his coaches and teammates. It has not been since the JKC era that would find players that can come off the bench or waiver wire and contribute. Good job by the FO and coaching staff. |
Re: First place Redskins
Perry Fewell folks, Perry Fewell. Been saying it all season, the secondary has been "the surprise" ....Will Blackmon, Rookie Jarrett, Breeland, Goldson, and Hall have been solid. Quinton Dunbar could be the next guy to step up.

I agree. This organization pissed away a lot of its fan base with 20 years of terrible play. If they want the fans to come back all they have to do is win. |
Re: First place Redskins
How old is Blackmon? He has been a gem of a pickup. Dude has come in and played safety and corner and is one of those players that has a knack to always be around the ball when a big play is about to be made.

Unfortunately all that I can seem to think about is that td catch from ODB. That was awesome. With about 10 minutes left in the game my buddy (giants fan) goes "well this sucked". I said dude there is alot of time left. You guys are going to score and get the ball back with about 7 minutes left and score again. Than proceeded to utter the words "what did I tell you" over and over again. |

The Giants could have put some distance between themselves and the rest of the division, yet they came out flat.
Not injuries every team has them at this point in the year.IMHO our drafts have sucked Jerry Reese should be looked at very hard,no pass rush, haven't had a LBer in over 15 years and the O line ,add in our receivers all (but Beckham and Cruz) are second tier at best and no decent TE.The INT's weren't on Eli they were on the receivers.I think Coughlin is doing one of his better coaching jobs and Eli is good in MCadoo's Offense ,this is what he was given to work with and IMO Cruz is done. |
Re: First place Redskins
Giantone is a closet skins fan! I would definitely say the giants lost that game because of their crippled oline, we got pressure all day and never let Eli really get comfortable. Plus you guys literally have 1 guy on offense that can make plays consistently. It's not over though, skins still need to handle dallas

Re: First place Redskins
Already over the media's reaction to the game. On ESPN's blitz they treated the narrative as this game being the NYG's chance to "establish their dominance over the division" Excuse me? Let's assume they had won the game, did that suddenly make them "dominant over the division" Sorry, but all four teams in the division are in a relatively similar boat although for different reasons. It felt like they were in pain going over the game highlights and they treated Odell's great catch like it was the most important thing that happened during the game.
They are treating the game as if the lowly 'Skins pulled off some kind of miraculous upset win over the division mainstay. Now look, I know as a franchise we have been very mediocre (if that even) for awhile, but in 2015 to act like we aren't even up to par as a team vs our own equally mediocre division is pretty insulting. Whatever though, I can't wait for most "experts" to pick the Cowboys to win next week so we can go through another post-game of silent exacerbated looks and dumbfounded takes. Look, I know whoever wins the NFC likely does it with no better than an 8-8 record but who cares, .500 and sub .500 teams have hosted and WON playoff games in the past. |
Re: First place Redskins
The losses and wins for this team are pretty interesting. I know we keep hearing the home/away record, but the broadcast team yesterday highlighted the difference in the level of competition between away and home. Below are our wins and losses viewed with their current win loss record:
Games we lost 4-7 5-6 6-5 6-5 10-1 11-0 Games we won 4-7 4-7 5-6 4-7 5-6 Games remaining: 3-8 5-6 5-6 4-7 3-8 3 of those are division games which always have more than just the current records, but all of the games are winnable, and if we did win them all we could conceivably be 10-6. I think 8-8 is still more likely, but looking just by level of competition we have every reason to think we could win them all. |
Re: First place Redskins
One of the biggest problems with the road game performances have been turnovers. We don't protect the ball well on the road.
Our remaining away games are Chicago, Philly, & Dallas. All winnable games if we protect the ball. |

It also would have meant the Giants earned the season sweep of the Skins, so to catch them this is what we would have needed: - Giants go 2-3, we go 5-0 - or Giants go 1-4, we go 4-1 - or Giants go 0-5, we go 3-2 So it was an absolute must win for us. And we did. I like that. |

Re: First place Redskins
Is the road issue a real issue? Or is it the product of playing better teams?
Our 5 road opponents: W-L Record: 38-17, .690% Defensive Yards Allowed Per Game: 349 Our 6 home opponents: W-L Record: 26-40, .393% Defensive Yards Allowed Per Game: 382 I think the "road issue" is a phantom problem. We're going to be playing some different teams on the road than the ones we've faced so far. The quality of the opponent has a lot more to do with it than the locale. Look at the schedule and our opponents, not at the number of road games remaining. |

Yeah 1 road win is really bad but remember when Seattle never won on the road either so things can change
