Re: Playoff hunt!
Yeah, we're a rather poor defensive team, and have a below-average D coordinator. But, I'm a believer once you get in the playoffs, then there is a possibility things could fall your way, and you find yourself in the conference championship game or Super Bowl.
Our offense is more than good enough to contend. Never know.... The defense gets a few turnovers in the playoffs, and we win a game or two. I'd rather be in and see what happens versus being home. Besides, I'm always much more interested in the playoffs when the Redskins are in it anyhow. |
Re: Playoff hunt!
I just have this feeling the Cowboys get bounced in their first game. Was looking back and they've had a LOT of shit go their way to pull out some close wins at the end of games. I think the luck runs out.

I feel the same way. Could be just because I hate'm...but I think they could very easily be a 7-5 team right now. I have felt week after week that the ball just seems to be constantly bouncing their way. It all started with Church picking off Cousins in the end zone as we were about to go up by 10 in the 4th quarter. I don't think it is something that will continue. I hope JG's post game ass chewing lights a fire. I think the players like him, respect him, and knowing there is no room for error, they have to come out with a purpose on Sunday right? |

Re: Playoff hunt!
It was ugly but we did what we had to do. At 7-5-1 we are still very much alive in the playoff picture. It's a week to week league at times, so who knows? We might come out next week and dominate the Panthers
Minny beat Jacksonville of course, the rest of the games that really matter are still to be played. Need NO over Tampa, Seattle over GB, LA over Atlanta, and Dallas over NY |

Carolina is a week removed from getting blasted by Seattle. So, I can't say they're getting their "swag back." As long, as the Redskins win out, then I feel we're gonna get in. The Falcons and Tampa Bay will slip up somewhere. Although, the Bucs' defense has stepped it up in the last month, my money is on them slipping up, based on their remaining schedule. |

Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G920A using Tapatalk
Amazing how every team we needed to lose ended up winning. Probably means 9-6-1 will not be good enough for us anymore. I think Tampa loses one more and finishes 10-6. New York is almost a certainty to finish at least 10-6 and after seeing that defense against Dallas Id be surprised if they dont get more than that. 7-6 Green Bay and Minnesota are right there too if we slip up, they play each other again so one will finish with 9 wins at best, but the other has a chance to get to 10 Man, I hope we come out next Monday and kick some Panther ass. We need some momentum |

If things go the way they've been going for most of the year TB will lose to Dallas and we'll take back that 2nd wildcard spot with a W next Monday. I don't see them losing to NO, idk why but NO has been some garbage this year. When was the last time you heard of Drew Brees throwing 0 td's in 6 picks across b2b games? The one constant they had was Brees, if he's fucking up that team is done. |

So basically it's us or the Buc, Bucs having slight edge. |
Re: Playoff hunt!
Rooting guide for the day:
The big ones are Cowboys over Bucs, Lions over Giants, and 49ers over Falcons. Also want Bears over Packers and Colts over Vikings. Saints at Cardinals is basically irrelevant, I suppose we want the Saints to win since they're playing the Bucs next week As for the poll, it's hard to say we will. Its just too hard to predict the Bucs losing more than one over these last 3, and that would require us to go 3-0 to get in. The other possibility is that the Giants lose one of their next two with us winning both which would make week 17 a win and you're win. I dunno, I'll go with the chances and say no. But I would love nothing more than to be proved wrong, this team has never won a playoff game while I've been a fan :( P.S. If a few of the teams we need to lose today do I'll hop right on the "playoff bound" band wagon |
If they win tonight the Redskins could clinch a playoff berth on Christmas Eve if they beat the Bears and the Packers lose to the Vikings at home and the Bucs fall in New Orleans.

With three games left there are plenty of other paths for the Redskins to get to the playoffs without winning out. Per the website FiveThirtyEight.com the Redskins have between a 68 percent chance and a 72 percent chance of getting to the playoffs if they win two of their last three. That’s a lot less than the 100 percent chance that a 3-0 finish would bring but it points out the fact that there still is a lot of football to played. For now, the Redskins just need to take care of business tonight. Per FiveThirtyEight.com a win tonight moves their playoff chances from 53 percent to 72 percent.
|
Re: Playoff hunt!
If we win tonight, and Saturday @ Chicago, and TB loses @ New Orleans and either (or both) Green Bay or Detroit loses... We clinch a playoff birth and play our back ups against NYG.
I know, one game at a time. But that scenario is not farfetched. |

Sure they might bounce back next week, but we are in the position of needing a lot of help from other crappy teams to get back in. Even if this does make the playoffs we have too many holes, and we will get exposed. We've had some good luck this year so it might go longer than I think but this isn't one of those teams that does one thing so well enough it can beat anyone it faces. |
Re: Playoff hunt!
Speaking of luck, Daseal and I argue about this all the time, but is it just me or do we get absolutely ravaged by injuries year in and year out? I mean the only years we're healthy we have shit talent.

New Orleans isn't good, but I don't consider them crappy, either. They're offense is still formidable. Frankly, I think they have an excellent chance of beating the Bucs on Saturday. Minnesota has gone to the toilet, so I don't see them beating Green Bay. Green Bay going to Detroit in the final week of the season is probably a toss up game. But, being it's in Detroit, then I'll certainly give the Lions more than a puncher's chance. Detroit could also lose out, as they're facing Dallas (on the road) and Green Bay (at home). IMO, the Redskins will get their opportunity at redemption. They could also be facing the Giants who won't have anything to play for in the final week. If the Giants beat the Eagles, then they're in. The only thing that could affect what Giants team we see in the final week is based on them losing to the Eagles or a win against the Eagles and a Cowboys loss versus the Lions. The latter would mean the Giants will have a chance at a divisional title. Still several scenarios on the table. We just have to do our part, as I sense the Bucs and Packers are gonna slip up. Finally, I'm always of fan of seeing my team play in the postseason. I don't care about having massive holes in the team. I just wanna see them play, and being in the postseason is always fun. Not to mention, it makes the playoffs that much more interesting when your team is participating. |

You can go ahead and keep track of all scenarios, I'm just gonna root for a W next week. If your team can't get up to grab the last wildcard spot against a mediocre team on national television I can't expect them to do anything right. |

Re: Playoff hunt!
Playoffs? Playoffs? I am just hoping we can win a damn game. Playoffs. (Sorry, had to channel my Jim Mora there).
Seriously, after that dispiriting effort last night, we should just be hoping to see a competitive team on Saturday (thanks for the very short week, NFL). We got manhandled by the Panthers -- absolutely pushed around in our own house. It was embarrassing. Stewart just ran right through our defense -- that was some of the worst tackling I can recall. If they do not come out and stick it to the Bears -- in the first quarter -- it's going to be really hard to stomach. |

it's been 3 weeks of other teams not doing the Skins any favors, and the Skins not taking charge of it. I don't expect that to change. Skins cynic prediction for the weekend:
Detroit over Dallas, Dallas rests its starters in the second half GB over Minnesota TB over NO Atlanta over Carolina We of course will blow out Chicago on Saturday, building our hope over the weekend for the monday night result. |

We are not a big box office draw as a result of our lack of killer extinct. Also, with so many more complete teams in the hunt, we are in trouble! !!!

that is really my only issue with Gruden. I don't think he has a killer instinct bone in his body. |

Re: Playoff hunt!
Not sure how you guys are defining killer instinct but Gruden has never been afraid to gamble by going for it on 4th or a surprise onside kick.
|
Re: Playoff hunt!
This team is limping towards the finish line. If we were somehow able to make the playoffs it would be one and done. With 10 draft picks, cap space and some luck with Doctson and Galette, I'd expect a much better and deeper team next year.
Not sure how you guys are defining killer instinct but Gruden has never been afraid to gamble by going for it on 4th or a surprise onside kick.
I think there is a difference between a coach who is a clever and successful gambler, and a coach with a killer instinct. Gruden is definitely willing to be gutsy and gamble - I like that about him. But in terms of a killer instinct, I define that a lot by how you play with a lead. Will you settle for a FG when a TD seals the game, will you go in at half taking a knee or will you push a drive that puts you up 2 scores. Other than one or two games (GB being one) we won't often go for a kill shot when the opportunity arises. A secondary part is how you play in preseason - and I am not saying preseason means squat, it doesn't - but you can tell some thing's about a coaching mentality, and Gruden's - imo - is passive more often then aggressive. Coaches can win without what I am calling a killer instinct, and I like Gruden for a whole lot of reasons. But he never will be a coach that goes for a TD when a FG puts your lead to 6, or takes that deep shot in the second quarter when you are up by 14. |

A team that can pin its ears back and do what needs to be done to take care of business is killer instinct. Gruden isn't the target of my rants, but these players just seem on the border of apathy at the very time they need to put the hammer down. They do not come across as a team that deserves a playoff spot. |
