Re: Cousins Saga 4.0. Is he done in DC?
I think its 50/50 he will be gone next year.
However....both sides have six months to say the wrong thing that will get the other sides all butt hurt. More or less inevitable...... |
Re: Cousins Saga 4.0. Is he done in DC?
100% chance that something happens next offseason.

July 27 (thurs) - training camp opens
Aug 10 (thurs) - 1st PS game @ baltimore football is coming. (and then we can debate Kirk Cousins weekly performance .. week after week after week.) Redskins.com | Training Camp Schedule |
Re: Cousins Saga 4.0. Is he done in DC?
I can't wait for the preseason when we'll hear what studs McCoy and Sudfeld are and how we could trade KC for a ham sandwich and be ok.
|
Re: Cousins Saga 4.0. Is he done in DC?
No way you will be an all pro if your last name is Sudfeld.
Or Kramer or Costanza for that matter. |
Wait what? Are you saying because they signed Brian Hoyer that takes them out of the running for Kirk next year?
What I"m saying is as long as Hoyer plays well for the 49ers, they won't be needing a 25 million+ QB next year. |

Yes, as long as that journeyman qb who has signed with 7 teams in 7 years plays well, he will always have a starting job. |
Re: Cousins Saga 4.0. Is he done in DC?
This is my first post back in almost a month. I wanted to take time away from the boards as things got crazy and the Cousins train derailed. I think heads are cooler here now for sure.
I want to say in all due respect to everyone : I told you all very early in the offseason, that Cousins would not be re-signed, and they would tag him again. I said that there was something going on behind the scenes, perhaps it had to do with Bruce Allen. I pondered the question regarding Cousins' statement in February that as long as Allen was here, he would not sign a LTD. So in all due respect, I told you so. Everyone here almost flamed me and said I was crazy, we had all kinds of "experts" here that insisted i was nuts, that there was no way they tagged Cousins again. So now i say this with a cool head: Cousins long term future is obviously now extremely in doubt here. I think IF IT IS TRUE, that Cousins doesn't want to be here, you trade him now and begin preparing for your future. It may be a bad one if we shit the bed this year and Gruden & Company are canned, maybe even Bruce Allen gets canned too. Trade Cousins somewhere that he would agree on, and get the maximum value for him. Because we cannot just have him leave after one more year here (2018) and get nothing from him at all. McCoy is not the future, but he could hold it down for a year or two while we figure out at this point plan C. To let our home grown, 4th round pick that we developed Cousins leave after franchise tag 3 and get nothing from him would perhaps, and should be, the ultimate embarrassment and sign of ineptitude from Snyder / Allen. I do not think Kirk stays beyond 2018. |

Are you kidding me? The MSM will be talking Kirk the whole time. The drama always gets people going/hooked. Only an idiot would try the Colt is a stud angle. Same goes for Sudfeld. The front office will cover its ass and draft a qb in all probability. |

Gotcha. Neither one is a stud. Keep
Kirk or draft the kid from Wyoming is my line of thinking. I rather keep Kirk though. |
Re: Cousins Saga 4.0. Is he done in DC?
What gets me is: We finally have a good QB. Are Snyder and Allen trying to get rid of him, without being blamed for it?
At this point I'm convinced that either by design or accident the Redskins FO is always going to screw up a good situation. |

I'm truly not gloating after the fact of my prediction. I am pointing out that everyone on here who ridiculed me and called me crazy offered no other facts to back up their assessment other than "There's no way we will do this / There's no way Cousins gets tagged a 2nd time / blah blah blah". I gave you every reason why it wasn't going to happen. From Cousins' issues with Allen, all the way to how many believe that Cousins still connects this regime to the RG3 era which Washington wants to move away from. I hoped that this would give my posts some credibility. Everybody wanted to write me off as a whacko but bottom line i gave you the straight talk when everybody else was creating more Cousins nonsense. I don't want any trouble with anyone here. I want to move past this Cousins stuff and get back to having constructive debates here. We can disagree about things and remain civil. I've taken a lot of insults here, ranging from the innocent misunderstandings, to - Race / Religion / Mental Health / you name it, and i've never flamed anybody in response, i've taken it in stride and tried to remain professional and courteous. |
Re: Cousins Saga 4.0. Is he done in DC?
winning solves everything, but losing creates nervous people, which leads to change.
cousins comes back if we win,if we lose with a record under 500,cousins and most ofthe free agents, along with gruden all leave. |

Re: Cousins Saga 4.0. Is he done in DC?
I agree with most of this.
I do think Cousins is good enough to win a Super Bowl. The following QBs have done so: Trent Dilfer, Mark Rypien, Brad Johnson, Joe Flacco, Eli Manning and Jim McMahon. They all have one thing in common, they weren't the greatest QBs of their generation but their defenses were stifling. I'm under no illusion that Cousins is, or will ever be, on the level of Aaron Rodgers, Tom Brady, and Ben Roethlisberger. But I'd like to see how Cousins looks with a competent defense, rather than having the worst third down defense of all time. We went 8-7-1 despite having that absolutely dreadful defense. I think he's good enough, not transcendent but still a piece of a Super Bowl puzzle that will require more pieces on defense to complete.
To the bolded part . . . that's the problem . . . none of those QB's were the highest paid player in the NFL, so their teams had money to spend to build that top defense . . . if we give Cousins the 28 million a year, how do we build a stifling defense? (we will have a very high prices o-line) and cousins also needs very good WR's. For that money he NEEDS to be able to carry the team on his back and he has not proven to be able to do that. |

One of the best posts thus far. We resign Kirk great, but at what price in personnel? We have a lit of guys on one year prove it deals on the defense primarily. What happens if they play lights out? Kirk is a good qb, but has a problem being clutch. The defense will need to help him out!!!! |

Re: Cousins Saga 4.0. Is he done in DC?
I AGREE 100000% if we give kirk a contract in the 25 million a year plus range .He should be capable of carrying this team on his back. he should be expected to win several games a year just like Rogers,Brady..etc . If he can't do that then whats the point..In a earlier post I said The Ravens won a super bowl with Trent Dilfer the reason was not so much Dilfer as it was that FANTASTIC defense they had..I would rather have a top rated Defense and a solid Run game with average QB play than a weak Defense..so so run game and a highly overpaid underachieving QB..would you guys GIVE UP our top three Defense players to keep Cousins? yes or no.

If most of our defensive draftees from the past 2 drafts pan out, we might not be that bad. Kirk can't be put into the pressure cooker that often. He can't be allowed to be more than 10 put behind relatively late in a game. |

Ok. Who should we get at a bargain rate who can carry the team for a game or two? Oh by the way Kirk did single handedly carry the team against Dallas and Detroit last year and our D gave up multiple 3rd and forever. So who should we get after we let this guy go: FOOTBALL OUTSIDERS: Innovative Statistics, Intelligent Analysis | QUARTERBACKS 2016 |

I saw a tweet from John Keim yesterday where it basically said that maybe the Redskins won't have to worry so much about the money to sign Cousins next year. The cap is supposed to be somewhere around $180M I think he said after signing Cousins, the Redskins would still have something like $43M to sign other players. The cap people on this board could comfirm or deny that, but maybe it's more possible than we think anyway. Honestly, if they're able to get everyone signed, including Cousins, would it really matter how much it costs? |

Exactly! We need to forget about how big these numbers look to us. In fact we should only talk in cap space %, that would give us a better idea. Don't worry for Snyder's money that much... |

Re: Cousins Saga 4.0. Is he done in DC?
At this point, I really don't give a fuck what they do. I still think we are still fucked as long as Bruce Allen is here and enabling Dan Snyder. Sign him....don't sign him. Whatever, just bring on the season and let's see some football. I'm happy about the off-season (minus the KC drama) and look forward to seeing what we can do with our defense. If Kirk plays well this season, offer him 3 years guaranteed (75mil) in a LTD. If he walks, it's on him.

Let Snake have his moment.
Dude man, it's all good here. I can see how my "comeback" post reads, but I swear in my heart it wasn't meant like that. I was just saying how I had my concerns like many of us way early in the negotiations, and everytime i would give me thoughts on why the deal wouldn't happen, people were just basically like "THATS CRAZY, NO WAY WE TAG COUSINS TWO TIMES", etc. I thought i outlined every scenario, from his issues with Bruce Allen, to the theory that has gained life on other boards, that Cousins still connects this franchise to the Shanahans and the ill-fated RG3 deal. No matter. I just don't want to be looked at as a crazy man when i gave us all straight up reasons as to why Cousins wouldn't, and didn't get signed. To be honest, i really want to move past Cousins here, and get back to debating other things. It will be hard to do, literally every game this season they will talk about how "Cousins is playing under the tag", blah blah blah. But hopefully we (The Redskins) learned from it, and next year they offer him a real long term contract. Let me be clear: I do not believe what Bruce Allen had to say. Other people who are good at breaking down the cap told me that Allen's deal was basically a two year contract, essentially. We need to get it right next time, and we have time. HTTR |
Cousins Saga 4.0. Is he done in DC?
There were plenty of legit reasons for him signing a LTD, and plenty of people in the know thought it could get done. So please spare us with the only you knew the truth and everyone else was just a hater BS.
|
Re: Cousins Saga 4.0. Is he done in DC?
I can't get over the lack of planning.
They should have prepared for the obvious contingency that Kirk would not and might not sign a LTD and should simultaneously been working both to sign him and also to have a viable QB option in the works if a deal couldn't be worked out. Allen imho has committed many fireable offenses but foremost in my eyes is not drafting a viable developmental QB in the recent years. |

I fall more into the "Bruce Allen is a moron who doesn't want to pay Kirk fair market value because he's not sold on him" line of thinking. I also agree with NC, as long as Bruce Allen runs the team I will never be convinced we are in good hands. Hopefully we see some good football this year, but if we do that means Bruce Allen isn't going anywhere and maybe Kirk is. I fully believe that Kirk feels disrespected by B.A.'s lowball offers. It remains to be seen whether this gets bungled to the point that Kirk leaves and we have no backup solution in place. If that happens I will be all in on the "fire B.A." bandwagon, not that I'm not already on that one lol. |
