Side note: How effing great is DJ Swearinger?? Dude is turning into the heart and soul of the D (I could watch the play where he knocks the skittles out of Lynch all day and not tire of it).
With that said, I am seriously worried about a let down b/c of how much emotion went into last week's win. I have no doubt they CAN beat KC but worry that they won't be able to sustain the emotional physicality needed to do so.
Yup, that article chico posted had a gif of it and it played on loop, i watched/heard it about 10 times today. I think, maybe more hope than think, that our D can match up w the Chiefs. Swearinger keeping guys lined up right, calling out plays. Brown and Mason plugging run gaps. Norman/bree winning 1 on 1 so we can focus on run and Kelce. Cravens would be nice to have, i thought he would play the "shadow TE" role when we went up against a Kelce. Kelce is a bama. Acts like a bama, looks like a bama. |

Damn, our edge-to-edge run defense has me drinking some stroooong Kool-Aid.
He’s still learning the ropes at WR but his crazy athleticism and Reid’s system makes him very dangerous. |
Re: Redskins vs Chiefs Pregame Thread
If the D keeps showing up similar to last week it will be a very interesting season.
Was it just a perfect storm of the D playing way above it’s head and the Raiders’ offense laying an egg, or is the D a legit force to be reckoned with? We shall see.
I thought our D looked solid the first 2 weeks. Against the Eagles they killed it with blown coverage and missed tackles/sacks that turned punts into 1st downs or TDs. Against the Rams they also did some of the above. To me last week was the first time they played up to their potential, I really don't think that was a fluke. This is what they could have looked like the first 2 weeks had they just finished plays they created. |

TMC, I wanna, but I can't drink the Kool-Aid just yet. We checked the box for "play 1 consistent game where everything came together for the most part." The next box of "play 2+ consecutive consistent games against elite teams" is a lot harder to check. It's a great test though, and I hope they again use the "nobody is giving us a chance" chip to their advantage again. But I won't be entirely shocked if there's a letdown, it's in our nature until they prove me wrong. I'd be happy to be proven wrong again though. |
Re: Redskins vs Chiefs Pregame Thread
Good stat from Keim about our improvement on the defense
"The Redskins' new defensive line has helped. Washington ranks third allowing 1.41 rushing yards before contact, according to ESPN Stats & Information. The last two years: 2.68 and 2.98, respectively" All about stopping the run folks. |

Haha. Maybe I'm just trying to convince myself. MNF always scares the shit out of me. |
Re: Redskins vs Chiefs Pregame Thread
Lets be honest, the Chiefs suck. Theyve played a weak schedule. Alex Smith just doesnt know he is Alex Smith yet. Once Smith is off his timing, he gets nervous, throws off his back foot and makes blind throws. Ive never seen a QB more afraid of contact.
Tyreek Hill, hes a one trick bum. Run those go routes all game. Thanks for clearing out that side of the field so we can focus on kelce and the underneath stuff. Kelce - embarrassing. Id be embarrassed if he was a redskin. I hope Brown tosses his fake Gronk ass like Von miller did. How does an NFL player allow another man to pick you up and throw you through the air? Clemmings is like a revolving door, that’s why he was cut. Maybe Callahan can improve his skill. |

What happened to Arie Kouandjio? Didn't he ball out some a couple times when he was asked to fill in?
Oh yeah. . . Here we go: http://m.redskins.com/news/article-1/Arie-Kouandjio-Makes-A-Big-Impression-In-First-NFL-Start/f1f16ea3-87eb-4aed-80d3-69d0a29161fd He's on the Ravens PS, I think we should snatch him. I know he's not a tackle, but maybe Scherff could bounce out to Tackle temporarily? That's a terrible idea, but I liked him. Maybe Clemmings is better and that's why the signed him instead. Edit: I don't remember a backup coming in and flopping since Callahan. Has there been anyone? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

So was Nsekhe. Don't forget about Roullier, he's shown some potential during preseason. IIRC we also kept a guy named Catalina who can play pretty much anywhere in the line. I was surprised we kept him over Kouandjio, so he must be pretty promising. Seems like Callahan can turn any guy into a decent starter. Envoyé de mon SM-J320FN en utilisant Tapatalk |

Sounds like he is finally healthy...really like to see him start. |
Re: Redskins vs Chiefs Pregame Thread
Don't think Kouandjio ever "ball out." Rather, he was a guy who lots of people liked b/c he had (1) a good pedigree; and (2) was described as a mauler. Ultimately, when given a shot due to Luavo's injuries, AK was just "okay" and never really got better. At best, he is a back-up guard who never demonstrated the athleticism/versatility to play tackle or center.
I really liked him coming out. However, he had his shot and never stepped up. |
Re: Redskins vs Chiefs Pregame Thread
lets build on that defensive intensity that we played with sunday. the chiefs play simple andy reid west coast offense. living on the short passing game. we have to able to get their playmakers on the ground, once they catch the ball. and try to be as physical as allowed. i think our offense will be able to move the ball. but getting six, instead of 3, is a huge key

Agree...I think tackling on the outside by corners and safeties will be huge. Our corners have been up to the task so far this year. |

Kirk's wife might have gone into labor yesterday afternoon. Hope everything goes well.

Re: Redskins vs Chiefs Pregame Thread
Bottom line, I don't care who the other team is - New England, KC, Atlanta - we play like we did Sunday night, we win.
Question is "Can we play like we did Sunday night on a consistent basis?" I sure as hell hope so b/c that would make for a damn fine season. |
Re: Redskins vs Chiefs Pregame Thread
Hill and Hunt are the real deal. A bit raw but still explosive. This is a different kind of offense than the Raiders in that it doesn't necessarily look to grind away in order to set up the deep ball. They have playmakers and Smith's job is to get it to them.
Carr was the engine that drove the Raiders offense. Hill and Hunt fill that role with the Chiefs. Need to shut them down hard which means lane/assignment discipline by DL/DB's, solid tackling, and a patient offense that scores in the RZ. Tough row to hoe, but, after Sunday night, anything is possible. |
Re: Redskins vs Chiefs Pregame Thread
if we were to beat the number 1 (some might say 2) team in the power rankings, I bet we would move up at least 2 spots!!!
But seriously, KC is a true Andy Reid team - solid across the board, knows how to win in the regular season and takes a solid, no slacking, performance by even good teams to win. This will be a tough game, and likely a loss, but the Skins seem up to the challenge. In the end, I give Reid the edge over Gruden on clock management, and Smith the edge over KC on Redzone performance. |
Re: Redskins vs Chiefs Pregame Thread
As i said before, this will come down to coaching anf im game adjustments... its never been our stregnth so im worried about how the defense will adjust.

Reid is definitely one of the worst HC’s when it comes to clock management, perhaps the absolute worst. Edge to Gruden for sure and that’s not giving credit to Gruden, Reid is just comically bad.

|
Re: Redskins vs Chiefs Pregame Thread
I felt like Gruden has been doing a decent job of time management this year, it feels like most games we keep our timeouts until the end of the half. Reid is definitely worse.
|
Re: Redskins vs Chiefs Pregame Thread
I can just see it now ... crucial drive near the end of the game. Both teams call a time out after several critical seconds waste away. Unsure of which team is being charged the time-out, both Gruden and Reid call a second time-out, causing each team to be assessed a technical foul, which off-set. Each side calls ANOTHER time-out to make sure that they can discuss the play. ... This goes on until both teams have wasted their full complements of time outs.
The team on offense then calls an off-tackle run good for one-yard. |
Re: Redskins vs Chiefs Pregame Thread
Watching the Chiefs Chargers game, I think we're gonna win this one thanks to Tomsula/Manusky and the pass rush: their line really isn't great, Smith was sacked multiple times by 4 or 5 men pressures, some times on back to back plays!
