Since when does tanking make a team better? I've never understood why people say this. Getting a better draft pick doesn't make you a better team the following year. When has tanking proven to equal success the following year? It just makes no sense why people think this way.

It hasn't helped Cleveland but it does help to have better draft picks.
I feel fine about tanking the season. Start over with some good draft picks next year. Let McCoy play out the season because Cousins is gonna killed behind this patchwork line and then he definitely won’t come back.

There's no way these players or coaches who are playing for another contract with the Skins or as an audition for another team will tank. That's career suicide.

We've had plenty of years of top 5 and top 10 picks. Hasn't gotten us anywhere.

You won’t be saying that when we lose the next few of these games. Teams wrecked to hell and Cousins is playing like the Lone Ranger cuz he has no help. I’d be surprised if we keep it competitive against the Cards and Chargers. Giants, still beatable.

We were going places with Scot until Allen and Snyder stepped in it.

Trent williams, Sean Taylor, Champ, RG3 etc. All have brought great play to this team.

Like I said, it's not for certain but high picks help

Take away just half of the injuries this year and I think we'd be at least 7-5 right now. I know people want to bring the pitch forks and run everyone out of town, but injuries have really impacted our ability to stay competitve week in and week out.

of course it has, no doubt but even when we were fully healthy. (eagles week 1) (KC game) we still never look fully prepared.

Far more recent hits than misses in the Top-5, although in hindsight, I rate RG3 a miss, giving up three 1st round picks that yielded only one year of brilliance.

And that's because we haven't had a good player personnel GM who knows how to use those picks properly.

Well, had he had complete control, which he did not, then I think things would've been a lot different. Really, what separates a great GM from all the rest isn't what they do with the high draft picks, its what they do with the lower ones and the undrafted guys.

I just have a 2 pronged fork to take out Allen and Gruden, but since Allen is an untouchable, I basically just have an ice pick for Gruden.

I thought we looked great in the KC game. KC was playing like the best team in the NFL at the time, our D was flying (until Norman got hurt), Pryor caught an early deep ball on one of the best corners in Peters .. that KC game was when the injuries started piling up and impacting our play imo.

Scot sd the skins stuck to his draft board, except for 1 pick.

I burn to know who that one pick was. Ryan Anderson?

I feel if you can get a proven guy like Harbaugh then you do it. If it's just another JAG then keep him.
I feel if you can get a proven guy like Harbaugh then you do it. If it's just another JAG then keep him.
We thought we had that guy in Mike Shanahan. The issue keeps going back to the front office. Without the right guy as GM, who is supposed to provide the atmosphere and culture the coach needs to succeed, then it's not going to work no matter who the Redskins get. Unless that guy is so well respected, like Joe Gibbs was, you're either going to have a power struggle between the proven Super Bowl winning head coach and Bruce Allen, or you're going to have a guy who is willing to work within the confines of what the front office says, even when the front office isn't making the best of decisions. I would probably put Jay Gruden within that category, although I think he was successful in convincing the front office that Kirk Cousins was better than RGIII.

You also have to have a guy who knows how to lead, even knows how to lead those who are over him. Joe Gibbs was great with this on his second venture as head coach. He knew how to convince those around him that what he felt was best for the team was what they also felt was best for the team. And even knew how to work with what he didn't always feel was best for the team. Guys, we're looking for another Joe Gibbs, and those guys are few and far between.

Redskins: -43 point differential in the 2nd half/OT this season (28th in NFL)

That is a HUGE coaching indicator, adjustments are not made period.

It's also an indicator that the team is getting physically tired because they're having to play so many minutes because there aren't enough healthy bodies.

I believe someone on one of these threads said that doing nothing just for the sake of not making a drastic change was also not an acceptable solution either.

I'm on the fence with Jay myself. I have said it before but I think he is like our version of Jeff Fisher. You aren't going to be abysmal, but you are never going to set the league on fire and go 12-4 or something like that. I think he is a career 7-9 / 8-8 kind of guy who once in a while will put a lucky streak together and maybe go 10-6, but with no type of consistency.

We need a well-qualified, capable GM who has full authority over all football operations personnel. Only that person should evaluate Jay Gruden and make any decisions about Jay's future here. Until that happens, there is nothing to be gained by firing Jay. So I vote no.

Re: By Popular Demand. Should the Skins FIRE Jay Gruden? Thread

Everyone keeps saying, "If you keep Jay, you'll continue mediocrity."

Kind of like elite QBs, there aren't many elite coaches out there either. Obviously it's all a package deal. Could Gruden go into Philly right now and do what they're doing? I would like to think so. As I said in another thread, could Belichek come down here and fix us? Probably not. It's a mixture of talent, coaching and intangibles, and it's rare when you can just fire a coach, get another, and suddenly be amazing.
