Jay Gruden on Kirk Cousins, "He was not quite as accurate as he has been. Everyone who has seen Kirk play in his three years, knows he missed throws he normally makes."
It's comments like this that make u really wonder if Kirk has hit his ceiling and maybe we should look at a QB?
Cousins will get way more than his actually play actually warrants just the market says so. He stunk yesterday. I'd let him leave and use the money elsewhere. But most people won't agree with me. |
Re: Looking at the draft.
As much as Bruce rubs me the wrong way, aside from the mishandling of Cousins (which is huge but maybe a Snyder dictate), I think we have done okay with player acquisition, cap and contracts.
Snagged prime time FAs in Desean and Norman when other teams were in the hunt. Swearinger and Zach Brown have been good. I liked the Pryor signing at the time and give skins credit for only doing a 1 yr show me. I imagine a Vinny would have given him 5 years, 50 M. Cap is in good shape. No big bad contracts on the books. Very little dead cap after this season. How much credit/blame does he get vs Scot or Schaffer? Idk. Contracts given out, I dont think is the problem. Of course, the mess up with Cousins is fireable by itself.
What huge contributors has Allen brought in that are six rounders, undrafted guys, free agents that nobody else wanted that turned into game changers? It's easy to talk about Pierre Garcon, DeSean Jackson, and Josh Norman. But he also lost Pierre Garcon and Desean Jackson. Probably won't keep Norman the way things are going. Alfred Morris was your six round guy, but he cut him loose. Frankly put, it's easy to find the high round guys, but Allen can't find quality depth for the team, and this has been apparent when much of your starters have been injured. So no, I don't agree that Allen has done enough to stay. He needs to be shown the door first IMO! |

Hell I am hard to agree with that because I hate not having a QB |

When I see Minnesota rolling w/ Keenum it makes me think that paying Cousins 27-30 million isn't worth it. But we have enough games of Cousins to know he's pretty good, not the case yesterday. He did stink. I'd prefer that we put the trans tag on him, set the market and make a decision. If he leaves then go w/ Colt and draft a guy. But that means you're setting your team back cause you're creating a need, you're drafting a QB high because you don't want to pay your current starter and that pick could be someone on defense. IDK, the decision on KC is a real tough one. |
Re: Looking at the draft.
Kirk made a great play getting away from pressure and throwing a td but that INT was backup QB like and he does that too often

Yeah, transition tag is my preference too. Then I'd hope we didn't match the offer. Get extra picks and get a cheap QB for next 5 years while we build the rest of the team. |

If we let Kirk go, we need to draft a guy 1st pick. If not then you are just getting worse |

I agree, all things considered Cousins is around a the #10 NFL QB, problem is someone will throw elite money at him because they are desperate. Overpaying for players can come back to bite you. When it comes to NFL free agents what they make is all about timing, and Kirk will hit the jackpot. |
Re: Looking at the draft.
Now that Jay Gruden essentially fired himself by quitting at the end of the Chargers game and then admitting it, there is no reason to hold onto Kirk Cousins. We should have a new HC soon and we probably won't be in a position to win for at least a couple more years.
Josh Norman should probably be traded to a contender for draft picks. It would be good for us and for him, too, under the circumstances. |
Re: Looking at the draft.
If we let Kirk go, we need to draft a guy 1st pick. If not then you are just getting worse
I agree. I'd go for BPA at QB with 1st pick we have, and a RB in the 1st couple picks too. Then a whole lot of defense and a LG somewhere. |
Re: Looking at the draft.
If I'm the team I am working a sign and trade deal for Kirk. I'm trading Reed as well. In the draft, I am targeting players with speed and those that scare opposing teams. Enough of this good character guys bull.
I don't think they have such a thing as a sign and trade in football, not to mention you cant trade a guy who isnt under contract which Kirk isnt |
Re: Looking at the draft.
If Kirk plays out the way he did Sunday, I don't think he will garner much trade interest. In fact, him doing so badly will bring the amount he gets down, way down. He is exposing himself as to what he truly is at this point. 3-4 weeks ago, all the pundits were pay the man, now he is a big question mark. He isn't worth $25 million, especially since he has nothing to work with. By the time you gave him the proper tools he needs to succeed, he will be up for renewal again. Face it, the roster overall is junk.

Looking at the draft.
Cousins would draw plenty of interest on the open market. His value is not going to swing wildly based on a couple of games in an injury riddled and now lost season. Just stop.

I agree that KC's will draw a lot of interest and that's because he is by far the best QB that will be available and a few games at the end of this disaster of a season dont matter. IMO what could impact his value is the quantity of the other QBs available. |
Re: Looking at the draft.
Per AD:
Washington safety Su’a Cravens has received medical clearance to resume all football activities and plans to play next season, per his agent @fadde. We’ll see where he ends up. I say Rams. |

I think he drops to the low end of the Franchise tag value, He still will get money, but this is two Decembers in a row where with the playoffs on the line his play has noticeably dropped. Yes there are other circumstances, and yes a qb hungry team will pay $25-28Million, but if he's thinking about $30-32 million, I don't think a team can justify that. |

Yop he's still listed on the roster, in the "reserve/leftsquad" section. I'm guessing if he comes back he has to come back here. |

He’s still under contract so barring a release or trade he’ll be back. |

If we franchise tagged him and then worked a trade, that is equivalent to a sign and trade. Although, he would have to negotiate the terms of his new deal with the future team. |

that is not going to happen, no one will pay KC $$$$$$$$$ and give up pick(s) |

Teams have given up picks and turned around and paid lesser caliber QBs than Cousins that's for sure. Sam Bradford anyone? |

The Eagles paid $7 million of Bradford's salary. And Bradford was not getting $25+ million. |

Someone is going to pay Cousins.

Damn right, Osweiler got paid and he sucks!! Lots of QB deficient teams will pay. QB’s like Cousins don’t grow on trees. |
Re: Looking at the draft.
Cousins is good, but he's no Osweiler.
|
Re: Looking at the draft.
Depending on what happens with Cousins, I like Derwin James from Florida St. with the first pick

As long as there is a Cleveland franchise, there is a chance. |
Re: Looking at the draft.
If Nick Chubb is available in the 1st I'd take him (if we have KC) that guy is a gamer and a difference maker. I'd love to steal a Kamara type but that doesn't happen often. IMO RB is the most important pos for us this draft..

IMO, a focus finally on improving the running game this offseason is a no brainer. A new left guard, a new running back, maybe add a fullback, and I’m on the “cut VD and bring in a new TE who can block” train as well. Look around the league and check the stats....Case Kenum doesn’t have the year unless Murray and mckennon aren’t running out of their mind. Without Todd Gurley, Rams are a 500 team period. Of course everyone talks Brady is MVP...but Pats are a run first team. The saints resurgence all based on their running game. The fuck faces philly eagles lead the league in rushing yards. The false narrative has been the league has changed to a passing league over the last decade. False |
