Fuller and Smith both made the list, had TW not been injured all yr he would have made it again and Scherff should be on this but whatever

So what is the "edge" position??? There either Linebackers or Defensive Ends...no such thing as edge.

dude got paid off of 5 games, unreal

Jimmy G gets $137 M for 5 years to equal about 27.5M a yr
And this, ladies and gentlemen, is why the Redskins FO deserves credit for getting Alex Smith for MUCH less. Kirk would want something in this range which (a) he's not worth and (b) much more importantly, would cripple the Skins salary cap.
Only issue with that theory is QB's dont fall off trees, if you have a franchise guy like an Rodgers, BrADY, BIG BEN, Wilson, you pay those guys.

Kirk Cousins is not an elite level QB and that is why we let him go, why pay him Jimmy $ and fuck your team over as CT said in his interview... Alex Smith is just as good as Kirk IMO and he is making 6-7M less a yr.
Yeah, if you know you have a sure fire 100% stud like Rodgers, pull the trigger, but not for anything less than that.

What a great time to be an NFL QB.

sdskinsfan2001 02-09-2018 11:14 AM

Re: Around the NFL Off season thread 1.0

Its a huge difference between 27.5 and 23.5 million, plus Kirk will most likely top that.

Look at all these players or combination of players you can find in the 4 million or less range.

Give me Alex Smith, plus (insert player/players) > Cousins by himself hogging all the money.

From what I understood, Smith got a 4 years extension worth 23,5M/yr right?

His current contract pays him 17M (according to sportrac) to 20,6M (according to overthecap) in 2018.

Not a contract expert but anyway for next year that's 7M to 10,5M less than Jimmy G and it might be 10M to 13M less than what Kirk will get !

I'm happy with this. Football is a team sport, need 11 players on the field and 53 on your roster.

One way to put it is: is Kirk worth Alex Smith + a solid starter like Cameron Heyward, Larry Fitzgerald, Cameron Jordan or Luke Kuelchy (to name a few guys making 10M to 13M) ?

My short answer is no.

When you have a guy like Chris come out and say you cant pay a QB 30M and help build a good team, that says a lot. This is coming from one of our best players not some bench player. Also as it has been mentioned , who has come out and said their goodbyes to kirk? NOBODY

Haha we just had the exact same thinking and posted at the same time!

Except for next year the cap space saved may very well be in the 10M range or above!

Yeah, I was just basing mine off the average of his extension. But we agree, we're in better position with Alex Smith to build a great roster the next few years, including this one especially.

So overall, that's 20M+94M/5years= 22,8M/year !

I like that number, especially after Jimmy G's contract, can't wait to see what Kirk gets. I kinda hope it's an insane amount of money so I can be happy for him and for us !

I was actually wondering about this.

To support his point, except the Saints and Steelers, none of the teams paying top 10 avr/yr money to their QB were very successful the last few years:

Some of those teams still won but it's due to Brady and Manning and Ben, other than that I agree 10000000%

Redskins have the 14th toughest schedule according to CBS Sports:

Giants have the 8th toughest, Dallas has the 15th toughest, and the Eagles have the 19th toughest schedule. Certainly all of this can change on a dime once the season begins.

The Eagles have the easiest schedule in the division because they play six games against the other teams in their division, all of which are shitty. It can't be helped.

It works in reverse too. all the teams in the division play the 3-13 Giants twice, while the Giants obviously don't. So their strength of schedule will be the hardest in division by default.

Add another name to the list of people I won't read anymore. Bill Barnwell at ESPN. Writes an article for things each team should do in NFCE and list the teams by their full names except ours, we're just "Washingon". What a self righteous POS. Another white guy pretending to be shocked and offended by the name, even though native americans don't care. Oh you're native american and don't mind the name, oh you're just too dumb to get it, so I'll be triggered for you.

Would it? 27.5 mil is approx. 3.5 mil more than what he got for 2017. I know I'm beating a dead horse here but it wouldn't have crippled us. Sure in hindsight we could use that extra money elsewhere but the problem would have been nonexistent had they ponied up two years ago at the steal price of 20 mil AAV.

Re: Around the NFL Off season thread 1.0

So, from what I've read, the Eagles are around $9M over the salary cap and have a decision to make regarding Nick Foles. I was jawing with some Eagles fans the other day, and they think that the Eagles will restructure Foles' contract to keep him. I questioned this logic. First of all, not only did he win you a Super Bowl, but he was the MVP of the Super Bowl. Why, on earth, would he be OK heading back to the bench for less money, when he could be starting for another team making a lot more money. And, why on earth would the Eagles be OK with keeping Foles through the 2018 season, paying his contract, and then letting him walk for nothing when his contract is void at the end of the season?

I brought up the Eagles, because I think they're going to need to cut some players to get under the cap, and maybe we can steal some of their better players.

skinsfaninok 02-14-2018 09:34 AM

Re: Around the NFL Off season thread 1.0

The Eagles would be crazy to let Foles leave without anything in return, the guy just won you a SB and was the MVP, He was arguably as good as Wentz.

Yes. The point is, I think they HAVE to deal Foles at some point, because it would be a Dan Snyder move to keep him until the end of 2018 and let him just walk.

Of course, as a Redskins fan, I'm fine with that. The Eagles are way over the cap and will have to cut players, so keeping Foles would just put more pressure on them. Not to mention the fact that they just let Frank Riech go to the Colts as their new head coach. I think the Eagles will find just how hard it is to repeat.

I agree 100%. Franchising KC twice upped the QB market as an side consequence. I think the correction will come with KC's contract. Teams will reset the value for a top 10 qb around what he is paid.

An elite qb is worth 30 million with the additional revenue that player brings to the franchise and the couple games a season he puts team on his back and drags them to victory. You can figure out the cap around him. Neither apply to KC. So we made move for a similar qb that allows us to sign/resign guys to put around him.
