Re: Skins 23 Panthers 17 post game
I don't know if it's the aftertaste from the Saints game, but yesterday's win was unconvincing. The team looked shaky (especially Smith), defense looked very soft at times, no pressure, and the offense had to settle for field goals and was overall not effective. Coaching again looked subpar. Sorry but I'm not feeling optimistic going forward.
I think you may be selling this win a little short. It was against a quality opponent, very likely a playoff team. Wins like that aren't always going to be pretty. We shut down one of the top rushing teams and held them to under 100 yards. We also limited Cam, won the turnover battle 3-0, and probably most importantly bounced back after an ugly loss on a short week. |

Yes, it was a great win. What’s concerning is Alex Smith looks unsure, holds onto the ball. We had 2 great opportunities inside the 50 before 1/2 time and got nothing. |

This was so aggravating. Smith wasn't good yesterday, but he was under pressure too. The second 4th down call was a terrible sequence by Jay. It was 3 and 4....Jay should have run the ball there first if he knew he was gonna go for it on forth. Instead he took away the entire run play book on 4th down. If he would have just run for a yard or 2...shit we were avg OVER 4.5 yard per carry...then we would be facing a 4th and short and could have come up with a better play. |
Re: Skins 23 Panthers 17 post game
When Carolina was driving at the end of the game things didn't look so great. D stepped up big when needed. We have to give the coaches credit for bringing AP here when no one else wanted him.
|
Re: Skins 23 Panthers 17 post game
I also don't understand why on the final drive when they got the ball to the 11 they stopped running. They pounded it down that far, why not pound it the final 11 yards? I really think the play callers outsmart themselves and try to get too cute instead of continuing to do what works until the opponent proves they can stop it.

Yes plenty of room for improvement from Smith |
Re: Skins 23 Panthers 17 post game
With what Ive seen and the position we have put ourselves in with Alex and the contract, if Im in the front office for the Skins, the strategy going forward should be upgrading the Left Guard and Center positions. The running game should become our focus, but in order to do this we must be better at Left guard and Center...not only for running, but protection as well.
Also, we got to get that Schreff extension done soon. Guy was injured and just was a beast yesterday. Also, Preston Smith and Crowder...letting these 2 walk offseason. Just a guy |

We are winning and still improving. This is a good sign. It would be worse if we were losing and not improving. If we clean up a few things, it will get better. |

Totally agree, right now he's giving us enough and most importantly he's not turning it over. |
Re: Skins 23 Panthers 17 post game
Alex Smith and the O-line are getting worse every game. They need to fix that right now. The D is better than last year but it won't carry us to the playoffs.

I don't see anyone mentioning Doctsons name. Okay, he didn't have a 3 TD game, but he did catche multiple passes.
i actually thought he played well . . . Alex Smith missed him a couple of times, he caught some tough balls . . . and was open quite a bit (wide open a couple of times) but didn't get looked at . . . some of it was on Smith, some of it was on the o-line not giving Smith enough time to survey the field and Docston was not the first or hot read. |

I would say the ceiling for this team is 9 wins and possibly a Wild Card. This is why I can't get overly excited about this season. We're not going to compete for a championship cause we don't have a stud under center. That is the reality of the situation. |

It is more than QB , we have no WR1, our RB is 33 and at some point has to break down right? Defense has no pass rush, our sack numbers are bottom 10 in the league. So overall I'd say 9-7 is a good season for this team |

They are yet to score ANY points in the 3rd quarter of a game this season! |
Re: Skins 23 Panthers 17 post game
From Rich Tandler for all the Alex Smith fans:
2. Alex Smith still sputters While the Redskins started off well, Smith was erratic through the first half. He was good on 10 of 18 passes for 96 yards and two touchdowns. Smith certainly had his good moments, hitting receivers for some key first downs during the Redskins first-half scoring drives. He also had some passes that were way off the mark, even when he apparently had time to throw. Late in the first half the Redskins got good field position after a punt from deep in Panthers territory. But after an intentional grounding flag the Redskins were moved out of field goal range. Smith continued to flounder in the second half. After the Redskins moved into Carolina territory with their first possession of the third quarter, he threw third-and fourth-down passes late and inaccurate. He did hit a few passes in the drive that sealed thegame for Washington but overall his day was spotty. |

That doesn't make it any better. |
Re: Skins 23 Panthers 17 post game
The reality is that the offense has yet to find its rhythm with any consistency, and as that goes, so do the team's up-and-down fortunes from week to week. We lost to the Colts because the O never got going; the Colts scored 21 but the D cannot be expected to do more when the O isn't holding up its end of the bargain.
The O was likewise terrible against the Saints -- not that the D was any better, but you have to keep the ball away from Brees and his playmakers to have a shot at winning. We didn't, and therefore we didn't.] The Redskins have to get the O going against a strong Cowboys D. The Cowboys offense isn't scary (yesterday's beat down of Jax aside -- anther team whose O made it's D miserable) outside of Elliott. But if our O cannot do its job, keep the ball, score some points, and not force our D to win the game, we won't win. In fact, it might not be close. We win or lose every game by double digits it seems, and I see no reason why this week will be different. And the outcome will depend on which O shows up. |
Re: Skins 23 Panthers 17 post game
I cant believe I'm saying this, but we need Lauvao back. Bergstorm graded out terrible and per PFF he is now one of the worst Centers in the league.
We need to fix this shit first thing this offseason |

Exactly...hopefully we get Lauvao back for the boys Other PFF grades that I've noticed trending is the right direction is AP and CT...guys are performing at a high level 1-2 punch. Seriously good news and their work shows on the field. Couple guys who grading down lately: Mason Foster and Monte Nicholson. Monte has been down all year. Swearinger is making up for it grading very high...def top 10 safety in league. Our Dline are all solid...the usual suspects on the oline all playing and grading well. |

Re: Skins 23 Panthers 17 post game
No but it’s the truth
Yeah, but the bigger truth that is painfully obvious is that our coaching staff is having a difficult time adjusting in the second half to keep pressure on the opposing team. The offense gets stopped, the defense will allow some key drives, and then suddenly, what looked to be an early blowout winds up being decided within the last few seconds. Maybe the sentiment is that if you're winning by double digits, you don't need to make any halftime adjustments, but I think that's very wrong if the coaching staff thinks that way. |
Re: Skins 23 Panthers 17 post game
No but it’s the truth
Pointing out that the Skins scored 3 points versus zero points in the 3rd quarter all season is really picking the fly shit out of the pepper. You know the point he was making. We have had teams stopping us cold after halftime all year long. Why do you suppose that has been happening? |
Skins 23 Panthers 17 post game
Look, he made it a point to emphasize we haven’t scored ANY points in the 3rd quarter. That’s simply not true. I’m not saying 3 points is a great thing, but again it’s accurate.
Obviously there’s been an issue in the 2nd half but it’s worth noting yesterday we had 3 long drives that ended in two field goals and ate up a ton of clock. |

He was only targeted against 5 times, 4 were catches but he only allowed 44 yards total. Not bad at all. Dunbar had his worst day by far, 9 targets 7 Rec for 2 tds |

Re: Skins 23 Panthers 17 post game
I don't like Dallas coming off that big win, feeling good, and of course the refs and the league will be hedging toward the cowfucks trying to climb back into the top of the division. I can't stand officiating as bad as that saints game... And no one reAlly gives a fuck. Gotta be the first Redskins game I voluntarily turned off in...... I dunno ever? The teams effort + the refs I couldn't stomach it any longer.
