Re: With the 15th Pick, the Redskins select...
I am intrigued enough to be both excited and nervous if they selected him at 15. Pros: big, pretty athletic, played in a pro style offense, showed an ability to read defenses, and the biggest pro of all he throws with anticipation which is critical in Gruden's timing-based scheme. Con, and it's a big one: not a very quick release.
Quick release is important if you're trying to throw to a spot where the WR isn't yet, but headed to. Slower release means the DB sees it and may have time to beat the WR to the spot. It reduces your ability to run after the catch, so receivers catch and get hit right away more frequently. He had only 59% completion at Duke but you can easily chalk that up to supporting cast, I don't perceive there to be big inaccuracy issues. But the quick release thing is an issue. Cousins succeeded with Gruden, at least to some degree, because he a) knew the offense, b) could read a defense, c) threw with anticipation and d) got rid of the ball with a release quick enough to keep the DB from jumping the routes. I think Jones will give you a, b and c, but I'm not sure he gives you enough of d. If he can, then he becomes a very intriguing player to me.
As a prospect I just can't put him as the 15th best player so he would be a big reach there IMO. |

I can definitely see your side of it. At 15 there should be a corner or a pass rusher that could be very impactful for us. I guess where Jones becomes intriguing is just our huge giant gaping hole at QB. But that can be where drafting for need causes you to make some mistakes. Do you go safe - for a defender who you know can make a difference? Or do you roll the dice at QB? I hope they end up getting Rosen with a package of lower picks, so it doesn't come to this at 15. Jones makes me nervous enough that I wouldn't feel great about him at 15. |

But if it doesn't I think you have to go BPA at 15 and get ready for that thrilling Colt and Case camp battle. |
Re: With the 15th Pick, the Redskins select...
D Jones not a first round pick imo...just an ok arm, accuracy issues on deep ball...
If we grabbed him in the second I wouldn't be mad, but he isn't ready to start. |

We have so many holes, there really is no wrong strategy to me in the 1st 3 rounds. We just need to make sure we pick the right guys at each position/slot that we decide to go with. Minus a kicker, there is really no position I would disagree using our picks in the 1st 3 rounds on. I have preferences but am open to just about everything. |

If the Redskins go with edge rusher, who you guys feel is the best pass rusher....Polite, Ferrell, or Burns ?

In order: Allen, Burns, Sweat, Ferrell. I'd be thrilled with any of the 1st 3 and OK with Ferrell. Looks like Polite has fallen out of the 1st most likely. |
Re: With the 15th Pick, the Redskins select...
I'd love Burns at 15

Allen, Montez, Burns
Im hearing we like Ferrell. |

If he draft any QB in the 1st, he automatically becomes the guy I always wanted and the best QB in the draft. |
Re: With the 15th Pick, the Redskins select...
Burns
Perhaps....he's a very disruptive edge rusher....but so is Ferrell and Polite....the only thing I have against Burns is he's under 240 pounds....typically edge rushers in a 3-4 scheme are 250-265 pounds..... |

They need help everywhere. And one draft is not going to make them a playoff team. They have no QBs under contract for 2020, so developing one in 2019 might be a good move. |
Re: With the 15th Pick, the Redskins select...
The pressure is on Gruden and Allen this year, the team needs to take a step forward. It hasn’t been hard to read between the lines with some of the things Gruden has said recently. He’s not interested in “developing” a young QB at the expense of taking away snaps from the starter.

healthy QBs and there is a good chance Smith will be cut before the 2020 season |
healthy QBs

I do not understand this site, it says there would be a $32 million dead cap hit if Smith is cut in 2020.... no one will trade for him if he is not healthy https://overthecap.com/calculator/washington-redskins/ |

https://overthecap.com/calculator/washington-redskins/
Their are some guys that are eternal optimists and their heads are full of wishful thinking. I have always been the opposite of that. I don't think Alex Smith ever plays another down of NFL football again. A gruesome injury like that would have been bad enough if the guy was in his early 20's, healed without complications and played for a contender. The Alex situation is the opposite of that, he is in his mid 30's, had complications, and plays for a team that is a long way from contending. |

Sometimes we (even myself) need to think before posting. Alex Smith is probably not even playing again much less getting traded. |
Re: With the 15th Pick, the Redskins select...
I hope Redskins don't like Haskins that much.. Apparently some teams don't have 1st round grade on Haskin according to Mike Clay, so he probably will fall to us.

He reminds me of Culpepper in some ways even though like I said before, I don't watch college football much so I cannot determine if he has potentials. From what I have seen on the highlights, I wasn't impressed. If we are going to draft a QB that will need some time to develop, I prefer to use 2nd or 3rd day pick to draft a QB instead of investing 1st round pick in Haskins and then develop him. |

He's a smart kid when it comes to X's and O's but overall he isn't ready to play at the NFL Level yet. To be honest I'm not sure any of these guys are, which is y I want Rosen |

I'm with you on Rosen |
Re: With the 15th Pick, the Redskins select...
Isn't anyone here concerned about Rosen's personality which I find to be obnoxious. It makes me wonder how coachable he would be as our QB. I feel comfortable that AZ will draft Murray but I'm far from comfortable with the idea of trading for Rosen.
OTOH, I really like Haskins and Drew Lock, one or both of whom might be had at #15. All three of these players will need to be developed. I wonder if some of us here are allowing ourselves to hope there is an instant answer to our QB dilemma when there isn't one. |

I wonder if some of us here are allowing ourselves to hope there is an instant answer to our QB dilemma when there isn't one.
Valid argument. The only reason why I prefer for us to trade for Rosen instead of drafting a QB with our #1 pick is because of the situation we are in. (1) We already have so much money tied to QB position alone due to Smith and Keenum with nothing to show for it, and (2) it seems likely Gruden will be gone by end of season, that is unless he manages to pull a miracle season. The QB class this year is not that great according to lot of people. If we draft a QB with our #1 pick, whoever it is, we will still need to develop that player like you mentioned. In my opinion, it is not ideal for us to draft a developmental QB right when we expect to get a new coach next year, since he more likely would have to learn new offense system. We could become next Arizona next year if we draft a QB in 1st round pick this year, then we hire a new coach next year and he prefers to draft or sign his own QB instead of going with the QB we draft this year. Due to those factors, I prefer for us to use our #1 pick to draft an impact player who will contribute to the team immediately as much as a QB could (i.e., offense or defense playmaker), which a new coach would appreciate. Rosen was widely considered as one of top QBs last draft, and Arizona gave up a lot to trade up to draft him. Arizona is restarting all over again with new coach and naturally, a new coach wants to get a QB that he is in love with - it does not necessarily means Rosen is not a good player. Since Redskins have a bad history with our 2nd round picks, we might as well as use that pick to trade for Rosen since he fits Gruden's system well and it could give Gruden a chance to redeem himself. I am not sure I buy the notion of Rosen's bad personality since most are from rumors. From what I have seen directly from Rosen's actions, it seems like he is being professional. |
Re: With the 15th Pick, the Redskins select...
Drew Lock is the only QB I want at 15.
But I think we would be better off waiting until the 3rd round or even the 5th to draft a guy. If he isn't a starter, we can get another guy next year and we'll have a cheap guy in place to be backup in 2020 when Colt/Keenum are gone. Give me: 1st - Burns 2nd - A.J. Brown/Paris Campbell 3rd - Grier/Finley 3rd - Best LG available This would be my perfect draft. Obviously there are other guys I'd be happy with to. But that's my dream draft start. |

Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk
I couldn't see it happening this year because he's still owed 2 years of salary left, but next year? Sure. Smith + 2nd or possibly a 3rd for a 7th rounder (or a camp body) to a team with 60+ mil in unused cap space? I didn't think anybody would take on that Osweiler contract either, and look how that turned out. But this year is a definite no, nobody would want to take on 2 years of salary for anything lower than a first rounder. |
