I think a lot of us were just happy they didnt trade a bundle to move up and get him. I was "fine" with the Haskins pick at 15.
Payne over Derwin James still pisses me off though. Compound the angts by giving an in the box Landon Collins 45M guar over the next 3 years. Collins seems to stay healthy though which can not be discounted.
I won't judge the Landon Collins signing until I see what a better defensive coaching staff can get out of him. Manusky calls games like a pussy and schemes up the softest zones around. A coach with a more aggressive style could get a lot more out of Collins. |
Re: Will the Current Treatment of HASKINS Effect His Tenure and Performance with the Redskins?
The reason I prefer Haskins over both Keenum and McCoy is both the latter have played mediocre.....Keenum actually played okay during weeks 1 and 2 but regressed in weeks 3 and 4....McCoy meanwhile looked like some journeyman crap against New England.....unless Callahan feels the Redskins can make a push to the playoffs in the next 11 games, he should play Haskins otherwise.

Re: Will the Current Treatment of HASKINS Effect His Tenure and Performance with the Redskins?
Haskins needs to be playing. We do not have a valid option in front of him. And it doesn't matter if he plays bad and loses. It's all about getting those experience points up.
Although I guess I'm not against waiting till the bye week as long as the plan is clear among the coaches and front office and Haskins is aware. Give him 2 weeks with the 1st team for a game against the Jets. |

When Jim Harbaugh took over in SF Manusky was canned and replaced with Fangio, the 49er defense went from 16th to 2nd pretty much utilizing the same personnel. What does that tell you? |

Collins played a hell of a lot better for the Giants, so I agree about Manusky but not putting him a place to succeed, that goes for the whole D. |

Will the Current Treatment of HASKINS Effect His Tenure and Performance with the Redskins?
I’m calling the BS FLAG on the Haskins pick. Pundits throughout the NFL (who usually Hate the Redskins) gave this team an A or B+ for this draft. Lots of stories of the Redskins WINNING THIS DRAFT. Most LOVED the Haskins pick. He WAS NOT a “third round pick” as someone suggested. He had an outstanding record at a big college program. The risk was in his number of played games. But EVERY DRAFT PICK IS A RISK! A study showed that only a third of first and second round players are in the NFL five years later.
We used a #15 draft pick for him. He’s either going to work out or be the next in a long list of failed Redskins draft picks in the last 20+ years. Shuler, Campbell and RG3 as a few examples. This season is toast. Play him NOW and see what he’s got. It’s not magically going to get better for him next year. There have been very, very few modern QB, and I’m talking HOFer who did not struggle mightily in their first seasons. Haskins will also. But in the second and third year we truly find out if he’s franchise material or not. Cousins was the last QB we nurtured to a decent level. But he was pissed because he sat around waiting for the “perfect moment” to replace RG3 even though he was clearly a better QB. Play Haskins and see what he’s got, because without a Franchise QB you can not win in the NFL. Will McCoy and Keenum even be in the team next year? Doubtful. Will they even be in the NFL next year? ALL the rookies on the team need reps to see if they’re players, not the vets who will be dumped in Jan with a new HC. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Yes, even if the chance is 5% you can't completely rule out an offensive minded head coach telling the defensive coordinator how to do his job. I guess Manusky has to suck under Callahan first before Callahan will let him go. |

Sent from my SM-G973U using Tapatalk
The bigger problem is finding someone to replace Manusky. No one outside the organization will come here for just an 11 week season. Snyder and Allen are a toxic mix, which is well known in the NFL HC and Coaching circles. This is a failed franchise with no plan and, listening to BA talk in his press conference, neither Snyder nor BA have any insight into their own significant contribution to this franchise’s overwhelming problems. The only HC or other significant coach coming to this franchise is either: 1. Untested, unproven or has very limited NFL experience in his new job. 2. Has such a poor prior record that no one else in the NFL will hire him, except the Redskins. Sound familiar Gregg Manusky? 3. Someone who thinks they are better than the 8 other HC and coaches, who have failed under Snyder’s meddling and bumbling ownership. This potential new HC or others coaches must be willing to gamble his life: receiving extra pay in-exchange for leaving years later with a diminished and losing football record. No one has succeeded in the Snyder era of 20 years of ownership. BL- the interim pick for DC will come from within the current defensive coaches. Getting elite HC candidates from OUTSIDE the organization to seriously consider this team will be almost impossible, under the current situation. Way too many well-known obstacles to success and two decades of consistent failures will scare away the best. This will change if BA is fired and/or Snyder removes himself from the football decision process on the franchise. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Guice is injury prone. Unless Cooley examined the MRIs he was probably just going by the tape which was dynamic and impressive. Sweat was the reason pundits were raving about the draft. Re: Will the Current Treatment of HASKINS Effect His Tenure and Performance with the Redskins?
QB is the most important position in sports so it’s worth reaching for a QB if you don’t have one. There was zero young talent at QB last year and they didn’t pass on a better prospect so I don’t get all the drama around the pick. Different rules for QBs!

Haskins will get his chance .. let’s give BC a shot .. I believe that once the teams starts to improve and I believe they will I think Haskins will get some playing time. I actually believe they will win Sunday and this team will be competitive the rest of year.. why you ask .. because Jay gave up a long time ago and the players saw it ..if all of us went insane watching him coach don’t you think the players were frustrated also? I Have no faith in bruce but he ain’t playing I do think we have some good players .. we win Sunday by 2 touchdowns...

Re: Will the Current Treatment of HASKINS Effect His Tenure and Performance with the Redskins?
I agree with the post elsewhere that Haskins should be given the starting role when we play the Jets. He'll still face several top defences in those weeks, but it gives him a chance to play when the results are all but immaterial. No pressure to win, per se, just go out and show he can learn week on week. Throwing him in the other week was, imho, Gruden trying to get himself fired and didn't do him any favours. If Callahan can improve the run game enough by then that it eases the pressure on Haskins, all to the good.
I don't necessarily agree that Guice is injury prone. I'd argue he didn; tget/seek the right medical attention in college and after, thus exposing his knee to the injury last year. If he'd got it treated and missed maybe even the whole season he'd likely have been stronger this year. The meniscus thing isn't a sign of being injury prone. Plenty of players have had similar issues and treatments and gone on to have successful careers. He may not have a long career, but if he can give us 4-5 years off good production from here on out, that's an ROI if you ask me. He may well form a nasty 1-2 punch with Love if they both come back fully healthy next year. Having a good improving young QB and a solid backfield for the next 3-5 years would allow them to concentrate on OL, WR, LB and Db in the draft, particularly OL. As long as DS and BA don;t go daft in FA again... |
Re: Will the Current Treatment of HASKINS Effect His Tenure and Performance with the Redskins?
Nobody is holding Haskins back. He's simply not ready yet. I think he may become the starter before he is ready but that's the way it goes sometimes in the NFL.
I hope he grows up a little soon. His "like" of an online commentary highly critical of Jay Gruden was unwarranted, unprofessional and egotistical and it made me wonder about his maturity level. He needs to become a team leader when he gets his opportunity to start. That said, I still like the pick of Haskins very much. He has great tools, presence, work ethic, and desire to win, IMHO. Some day soon he's going to be a very good NFL starter. |

I will only watch that game to see a rare Redskins victory. The rest of the season I will probably watch a little till it gets ugly and then hit the shop and listen on the radio. If they put Haskins in like they did against the Giants I will watch the whole time he is in there. Agreed that watching Case and Colt play is painful, Colt is the worst. Lombardi claims to have talked to several redskins coaches and their assessment of Haskins paints him as a total bust. Completely uninterested, not not paying attention, not putting in any work, but acting entitled due to his relationship with Snyder and expecting to be enshrined as the starter based solely on his laurels.

Haskins is going to be our QB for 10+ years. Maybe some of that shit is true but it could have been due to bad relationships with Jay. Not blaming Jay. Some relationships just aren't good. I'm excited to see Haskins take over at some point this year.

Neither is a quality that i can think of any great QBs having. Haskins is a dud - griffin 2.0 Snyder made a mistake drafting him at 15 when the actual football people had second and 3rd round grades on him. No reason to compound that mistake by sticking with him. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Re: Will the Current Treatment of HASKINS Effect His Tenure and Performance with the Redskins?
There are plenty of football people that thought he was a 1st round pick and that us getting him at 15 was good pick. We have enough actual problems without taking every negative report seriously. And most of our coaching staff should be fired. Unless O'Connell gets the HC job, none of them will be here next year. Unless we hire a defensive guy as HC and he keeps O'Connell. Either way, I don't imagine any coach besides O'Connell possibly coming back next year.
Let's not throw the baby out with the bathwater in a year where the HC gets fired and what will possibly go down as the worst year in franchise history. |

RG3 was an anomaly because he was hurt and Cousins was pushing up underneath him from below. We spent a first rounder for Haskins - regardless of whether Chris Cooley thinks we should have drafted him, Haskins must be coached up and played in regular games to see if he is the future or not!! We have the foundation in the WR group to work with Haskins. The OL MUST BE REBUILT in this draft as well as getting a prime TE. The sooner we get started with Haskins the better. He either is the future or not. |
