Re: Skins trade for Kyle Allen
I wouldn't mind so much if we had a bunch of extra picks, but we have few to start with and it seems likely we were bidding against ourselves
|
Re: Skins trade for Kyle Allen
Maybe we can trade a 4th for their water boy. Heard he's hitting mouths from 10 feet out.

dude .. its a 5th rounder for a 24 year old QB who has already played 12 games in the NFL and our new HC and OC seem to like. if it was a 6th, everyone would be fine with it. give RR a little more patience and leway then immediately condemning him. its a 5th rounder ffs. good lord besides we do have a GM in Smith |
Re: Skins trade for Kyle Allen
585k is cheaper than what we would probably have to pay if he was released and teams were able to bid on him. so we give up some draft capital but maybe save a mil or so in cap this year.
thats if we use our cap money. seems like every year we dont use all of our cap and just roll it over. which im fine with bc iot makes next year a better year for us to add pieces and be a competitive football team. 10.8 million was rolled over from last years unused cap. I get being smart, rolling over cap ... but at some point do we fully commit to going all in on winning? when do we say, this is the year we go 100% to winning?
Drafting chase young isn't going to make us a winner right now, I'd just stock up on picks and add more talent |
Skins trade for Kyle Allen
Not surprised by this move. With the possibility of a shortened offseason we need someone in the building that knows the system.

LMAO. Bias? You mean like the Panthers, with their non biased Head Coach bringing in his old College QB - PJ Walker? You call it bias, but in reality it's more about familiarity and fit. It's what all 32 teams do with regard to players and all levels of their staffs. |
Re: Skins trade for Kyle Allen
When you draft a backup QB in rounds 5-7, you have that player on a cheap rookie contract for 4 years. This is the last year of Allen's rookie deal. Next year he either walks or we have to pay him decent backup money.
we have a had a HIGH fifth round pick - this was way too much for Allen. Should have been one of the 7ths.
Obviously a 7th wasn't going to get it done. |

Yes, I hear ya and agree. Went on a bit of a tangent there ... seems like we never use our full yearly cap amount anymore and just roll 10-15 million into next seasons cap .. only to not use it and roll another 10-105M into next season ... I get the approach and agree with it ... as long as it is done to set up youre "all in" year. Which i guess is going to be 2022. |

And now weve plugged that hole with someone who can help bring Haskins up to speed faster .. and it only took a 5th at 585K cap hit. I wouldnt get so upset with what we did with a 5th rounder to condemn RR as an idiot or needing his decision making power completely stripped. |

If this dude threatens Haskins job, we'll be talking Trevor Lawrence / Justin Fields in 2021. |
Re: Skins trade for Kyle Allen
Some of you are looking at this all wrong.
Teams have to prepare for the very real possibility of no mini camps and no offseason program until training camp. That's a huge issue when you don't have any QB's on the roster that know the offense. This isn't about Allen being brought in as a threat to Haskins, it's about having a very short term bridge to Haskins if need be. Because learning a new offense on the fly in training camp is not an ideal situation and it would be asking a lot from a 2nd year guy. |

I'd trade all of our picks for him before that. |
Re: Skins trade for Kyle Allen
Wow. Really don't understand the vitriol some are reacting with. Good young backup QB with experience, knows the system and the OC, and has a salary of $585K. Folks are acting as if it is a foregone conclusion that the Redskins were going to draft a future HOFer in round 5. The price is more than fair for what we are getting, IMO. Good move.

They should be able to add two or more picks for Trent and Dunbar. |

Re: Skins trade for Kyle Allen
I'm not surprised as we needed someone in there badly. It's just that he probably wasn't in the Panthers plans. So if that's the case why trade for him? Why give up that 5th rounder? The flip side is this is a guy who can step in and start right away if Haskins has a bad camp. He had some big games last year, then came back down to earth.

You're crazy if you think Allen is starting if Haskins has a bad camp. |
Re: Skins trade for Kyle Allen
I mean system wise, i guess it makes sense to have someone familiar in the building to help Haskins - or god forbid supplant him as starter *facepalm thinking this was the reason for the move*

Re: Skins trade for Kyle Allen
I'm guessing that Kyle Allen is going to get some time this year. It's not like DH has shown that he can stay healthy. Plus with the uncertainty of Smith I really don't have a issue with this, as long as we can get a draft pick or two back for Trent.

Re: Skins trade for Kyle Allen
The skins need to trade down and get more picks. We are way more than one player away from competing for a championship. I keep hearing from people on this site about nobody wanting to trade up with the skins because they believe the skins are not going to take Tua. Well, what about some team that might want to trade up for CY. We need a lot of picks. Just saw where we traded Quinton Dunbar to the seahawks for a 5th.

Re: Skins trade for Kyle Allen
Problem is, trading up for a DE would be hard to imagine.. The Bears already regret dealing that 1 for Mack

Re: Skins trade for Kyle Allen
It's a wild ride on this forum. like a few have said, good young qb with more starts than Haskins in 2019. Salary is low in comparison to what we would've carried to keep Keenum or Colt. Can help Haskins get up to speed with Turner. Gives some salary flexibility including the possibility of paying some of Trents 2020 salary if a team will give us a decent pick. I like it. would've liked it more if he was on a longer deal but I like it. There's a chance they've already discussed a new contract for 3-4 years even.

Re: Skins trade for Kyle Allen
True but, he is supposed to be a generational talent.

If a new, longer contract is agreed to that completely changes the dynamic of the trade. I hope this is the case. Would definitely make the trade more reasonable imo. He just signed his current contract this off season. Would be a short turnaround to sign a new one before this season. |

This is a good watch if you want to know what kind of kid Kyle Allen is. Also some insight on his relationship with Scott Turner and Rivera

Re: Skins trade for Kyle Allen
I like this trade. This is a position where depth was needed and we got a system player with experience. Granted, the Skins have made a few good 5th round selections in the last few years ( Ioannidis, Sprinkle, Settle and Holcomb - Piersbacher (?)). Of these players, only Ioannidis is the only proven, quality starter and he was a damn good pick. I will also remind you that in 2016 our number 1 was Doctson and our number 2 was Cravens. It doesn't matter how many picks a team has if they miss that badly at the top.
Before you get too outraged, go back through the last 5 years of drafts and see what we have done in the mid-late rounds. Getting a guy for a 5th round pick who may at some point start at QB (hopefully as a back up) is good value. It would not be surprising to see him sign an extension at a reasonable rate, given his relationships with Rivera and Turner. Trading Dunbar for a 5th round pick may not be what fans think he is worth, but it is what the market will bear for a guy in his last year. Plus, he is a malcontent, so cya. In the end, we moved down 6 picks in the 5th round (from 148 to 154). It's essentially a straight up trade for us. I would like to see some of the responses to trades made during the George Allen era when nearly all of the picks were traded for 30+ year old guys with beer guts. Lastly, our team needs a new identity which I hope Rivera will bring. If players want to move on, let them go. I am glad to see Nicholson let go, as well (too many off field issues). The Joe Gibbs Super Bowl teams had guys with 'personality', but they were all good players who lined up as a team on Sundays. The underlying core of those teams were role players who fit specific needs. The rules were different then. Teams could stash players. But, the rules were the same for all teams. The Redskins, among some other great teams from that era, knew how to find players that fit their schemes and they had excellent depth even if the back ups were not household names. |
Re: Skins trade for Kyle Allen
Graded out poorly but his tape isn't that bad.. Accurate in the short to medium game. Struggles 20 plus downfield, overall I guess since he knows the system it's not that bad, Dunbar's trade made me more mad than this now.

He's a perfect backup. Don't think a backup is worth a very high 5th round pick. Especially for a 3-13 team. This was not a good trade. It's only anything but an F if he gets extended. |

You just argued against your own post. Apparently RR has really got you worked up with this trade.

He was a 5 star recruit and heavily recruited so we know the kid can play, I just wish they waited until he was cut but it's over now. HTTR

Who says he was going to be cut though? They just resigned him a few weeks ago. Maybe he gets cut in training camp but we can't afford to be in wait and see mode. |
